Good morning.
Our friend in today's picture got sick years earlier when he got started with a famous movie role and had to be replaced because of something in the metallic costume treatment. Let's hope the shiny get-up this time, right down to the pointy boots, is wearer-friendly....non-toxic twang-rockin'.

G'mornin' y'all. @redkayak: Horses and more electric powered rail transportation, including inter-urban trollies like they had in the late 19th Century and early 20th century, only the electricity would be from clean and renewable sources.

Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 10:19am Doug Schulkind:

I drank an entire bottle of seltzer in the first 20 minutes of the show and now I gotta pee for the third time. Too much information?!
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 10:21am Shaun:

TMS (too much seltzer).
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 10:21am Doug Schulkind:

And no, I am not using a Deejay's Buddy®.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 10:22am Brian in UK:

Shaun, I said this to Stanley at the time, I know it may sound silly but when he played the guitar there was no looking intently at the frets he hardly looked at the instrument, he knew exactly what he wanted to say through it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 10:22am Brian in UK:

Doug, you have a DJs body?
  Fri. 12/4/15 10:23am Jeff g.:

This'll do just fine, o.f.c.o.u.r.s.e.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:00am Stanley:

@annie - I used to love the Beverly Hillbillies and all those black and white shows from the US. Mr Ed, The Munsters, Sgt Bilko, Here's Lucy etc. I thought them all wonderful.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:00am Doug Schulkind:

There are five empty seltzer bottles at my feet, Shaun. There's your answer.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:03am Shaun:

Just, er, relieved you stuck with the Traveler's Friend and didn't refill them.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:03am Doug Schulkind:

That was Ben Webster on tenor sax with Mr. Witherspoon.
  Fri. 12/4/15 11:03am Dean:

Witherspoon had a radio show in LA a few decades back. I vaguely remember tuning in at night to hear the non-Top 40 playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:05am AndrewC.:

Hey Doug, do you know what happened to that Karl Blau album you played a few weeks ago? It seems to have been erased from the internet. I wanted to put it on my Christmas list :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:13am Stanley:

Doug - can I have that Karl Blau link too? Last place I looked said it hadn't been released yet
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:13am Brian in UK:

@ngh did you flip it?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:15am listener james from westwood:

I got curious about the demonym for those from Benin. They are Beninese, at least in English.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:16am Doug Schulkind:

I can't find a link for the Karl Blau record! There was a pre-order page at Raven Marching Band Records' website (Laura Veirs' label). But that page is gone. I am betting that the record isn't ready yet. I got an advanced copy because I donated to the Kickstarter for it. But maybe they are making late-changes. I will keep looking.
  Fri. 12/4/15 11:16am Dean:

Mole frittata and "demonym": getting an education here!
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:17am northguineahills:

I will flip it once I add the egg concoction. Still making the mole.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:18am Stanley:

Heya Annie. Long time, no hear from! Last I heard you were in North Carolina. Hope you're doing OK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:21am annie:

one strange memory just leaped into this ancient rolodex of a brain: our 4th/5th grade class took a trip to NYCity and one of our treats was to visit a recording studio. turns out we saw the filming of "Barefoot in the Park". who'd a thunk?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:21am AndrewC.:

Thanks for looking, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:22am annie:

i'm still here carm.... closing in 4 years, yo.. and i'm well and finally have reached full retirement. relaxing and living on a scant 200 more a month, but still fat and happy..
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:23am Doug Schulkind:

@AndrewC
I just sent an inquiry. Maybe I'll have some info before the end of the show.

Hee-haw, it's Carmichael!
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:25am northguineahills:

@Stanley: I'm not a veggie, but my wife is. Never thought about eating moles, I imagine thay're not that good, otherwise they'd be on the menu more often. (I mean, squirrel was a thing where I grew up, and they're comparatively scrawny).
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:25am Doug Schulkind:

The cover to next week's New Yorker: www.newyorker.com...
  Fri. 12/4/15 11:27am Mr C:

You can't buy the Karl Blau record in US. Laura Veirs label says they're not allowed to sell it until May,16. I tried.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:28am ndbob:

@annie Congrats didn't realize you were retired:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:28am Uncle Michael:

YOU MEAN LIKE MY 2015 MARATHON PREMIUM?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:33am holland oats:

SEEDS RAW & ALIVE!
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:33am Gary:

Yeah!!!
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:34am Alex In Illinois:

"Swing" the hammer?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:34am Doug Schulkind:

Yeah, like, kinda, Uncle Michael.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:35am Doug Schulkind:

Did you include an Aretha track, Michael?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:35am Uncle Michael:

No, I didn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:36am Brian in UK:

Lawks 4:30 and pitch black, better walk the dawg.
If this is what seltzer does Doug, better get a case in. Great show.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:36am Doug Schulkind:

The actual title of this song is "You Better Sit Down Kids," but I felt adding the comma was pretty vital to the meaning. Will the ghost of the songwriter (Sonny Bono!) haunt me forever?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:37am Uncle Michael:

I find it amusing that something I included a track from has been reissued since the marathon...sans fake audience noise.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:37am Doug Schulkind:

I freaking LOVE how Byrdie switches the gender in the lyrics, which have the mother leaving the kids with the father. Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:37am Brian in UK:

On that note, ever seen up hill Skiing?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:38am Doug Schulkind:

This Aretha record got reissued sans canned-audience sounds, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:39am Uncle Michael:

Since the marathon?!
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:39am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks for that update, Mr C. Didn't realize that the official release for the Karl Blau record was so far away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:39am Uncle Michael:

I'm taking credit for the Beach Boys' reissue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:40am Stanley:

Gets some canned applause from me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:40am Brian in UK:

Uncle do you do mortgages?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:41am Doug Schulkind:

I used to go for the canned applause, but then I had to cut down on the sodium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:41am Uncle Michael:

Only ones with fake applause.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:42am Uncle Michael:

Canned applause:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:43am Stanley:

Thanks UM, I literally burst out laughing at that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:44am Mike East:

wait, that applause was fake, UM? You just shattered the illusion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:44am Mike East:

Now I just don't know what to think.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:45am still b/p:

This time of year we sing:
Here comes canned applause,
Here comes canned applause,
Right down canned applause lane...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:45am Uncle Michael:

Well, we papered the house...that's all I meant, Mike.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:46am Doug Schulkind:

Pretty much every day of my life from age 4 to 14 I ate for lunch cottage cheese mixed with applesauce.
  Fri. 12/4/15 11:46am Dean:

Why all the chatter about canned applesauce?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:47am Doug Schulkind:

This is a high-brow group, Dean. That shouldn't surprise you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:47am Uncle Michael:

MIXED *WITH*.

Were you raised by wolves?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:48am Doug Schulkind:

"Ate" not "eat." I was raised by wolves who, of course, didn't give a shit about tenses.
  Fri. 12/4/15 11:49am Dean:

The key to comedy, as always, is timing. UM scooped me with the visual. I'm ashamed I even tried.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:50am Uncle Michael:

Repent.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:50am Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of tense, please do your darndest to keep sitting there doing nothing so you can listen to Uncle Michael's super swell HINKY DINKY TIME: wfmu.org...
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:52am northguineahills:

Thanks Doug, time to eat mah frittata!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:52am Uncle Michael:

Horseshit...turn my show up loud and dance around your home, office or place of worship. Listening on the app in the supermarket works too...as long as you dance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:52am annie:

just a quick run into the kitchen to feed the cats....
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

You know what goes well with fritata, northguineahills...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:53am Uncle Michael:

Hinky Dinky Cantata
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:53am Carmichael:

I only dance like Buddy Ebsen in the supermarket. I dress the same way, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:54am Stanley:

Sounds like Hinky Dinky Time has already started!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:54am Uncle Michael:

better get back to Tennessee, Jed.
  Fri. 12/4/15 11:54am Dean:

Don't I have to pent before I repent?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:54am still b/p:

Before we leave this show ("GTDS: Never lame, but sometimes lamé."), does any retro-TV genius know what Jed's singin' there?
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:54am Doug Schulkind:

You know what a hooker with poor business skills offers...

...fritata

Thanks everyone, you've been a great audience!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:54am Brian in UK:

Carmichael I can see you and Spencer easing down the street.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:54am ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:55am Uncle Michael:

Skip the veal.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:55am still b/p:

I used to read Repenthouse magazine for the letters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:55am Uncle Michael:

the letters "r" and "e"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:56am Uncle Michael:

See you all in the next room...thanks Doug!
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:56am Shaun:

At the risk of resorting to mere sincerity, this show has lifted me right up. Kickstarter to get Doug ripped on CO2 every Friday.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:56am still b/p:

Exactly...."I never thought 'r' would happen to 'e'."
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:57am Jeff Golick:

Woo!
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:57am Doug Schulkind:

It was a carbonated pleasure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:57am Stanley:

As usual, I'm blown away by this show.
What can I say?
I start with - thanks.
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:58am listener james from westwood:

Loved it, Doug! Hope the water comes back on before you have to recycle that seltzer!
  Fri. 12/4/15 11:58am Dean:

And boy are her arms tired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 12/4/15 11:59am Brian in UK:

Man in restaurant to waiter "What soup you got?
Waiter "We got chicken or pea"
Man "I'll have the chicken"
Waiter calls to kitchen "One chicken soup"
Man "Changed my mind make it Pea soup"
Waiter to kitchen "Hold the chicken and make it pea"
Avatar Fri. 12/4/15 11:59am still b/p:
