Listener comments!

dale:

i like your banter. you're like the john pizzareli / jessica molaskey of jersey city
  5:19pm
Mark:

I'll take that as a compliment--I've got big shoes to fill here!
Avatar 5:22pm
glenn:

jessica does have large feet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
dale:

is a compliment - it's a rock and roll 'radio deluxe' (which i like).
  5:22pm
Listener Robert:

For those of you who didn't get the reference, Viceroy carried on an ad campaign for several years as the thinking man's cigaret.
  5:24pm
Listener Robert:

That was also parodied in a Walter Lantz cartoon about advertising, in which the voice-over says over a person's figure, "Let's hear what the thinking man says about cigarets." The thinking man replies, "I don't smoke."

dale:

saw dick gregory doing some comedy and then talking about the watts riots on the merv griffin show today (might have been ME-tv). this old stuff needs to be heard and seen more.
  5:26pm
Listener Robert:

It is amazing how much touchier people are today about certain subjects, such that comedians can't joke about them. OTOH, as shown by Lenny Bruce, they're much LESS touchy about certain OTHER subjects.
  5:27pm
Miss Linda Lee:

fantastic thing about great social satire, it's never actually 'old stuff'. we all need more Lenny. good evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
dale:

glenn- HAH! just noticed your comment.
  5:35pm
Miss Linda Lee:

@Listener Robert, are you the gentleman who lives with Dusty & Izzy?
  5:35pm
Mark:

Thanks for tuning in this afternoon. Not to worry, Gaylord will be back next week!
  5:36pm
Miss Linda Lee:

love hearing you both. please don't be john & jessica. they're so clubby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm
dale:

this is that modern prog all the kids talk about.
  5:40pm
Miss Linda Lee:

really love the maki asakawa. bossa nova beautiful.
  5:40pm
kevin:

on the politically effective satire front, y'all familiar with Barry Crimmins? the new bobcat goldthwait doc on him, Call Me Lucky, is on Netflix and all crazy kinds of good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
dale:

will look that up - thanks kevin

Ms. LL, you're asking how I fit w certain characters on the Dusty Show?
  5:54pm
False Dawn:

wtf
  5:54pm
Listener Robert:

Oh, you mean Dusty & Izzy he chinchillas. No, my entry was Wolfie.

I tried to register as Robert, but that was taken. However, I didn't realize there couldn't be redundant IDs on the mascot entries.
Avatar 5:54pm
glenn:

i LOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEEE this dan penn / spooner oldham record.
  5:56pm
Listener Robert:

Some day (yeah, right) I'd like to do some HTML-based mixed-media comic strips featuring Wolfie & me.
Avatar 5:56pm
glenn:

except i've owned it since maybe 2000, so you should check your date.

Hi Mark
What a great show you have got going. Also wanted to say my pal, Pete, plays in this outfit
Keep on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm

i didn't mind that hall and oates cover - it needed a woman's touch.
  6:13pm
Miss Linda Lee:

fantastic piece Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
dale:

LOVE this version of 8 miles - heard it before, never knew who did it.

I can imagine that Ukulele thing happening at summer camping festival I've been going to
  6:14pm
False Dawn:

not when the vocals sounded like they were telephoned-in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
Andrew Waterloo:

There'd probably be a guest appearance from Fred Penner in the mix as well.
  6:15pm
Miss Linda Lee:

@dale,i liked the bird & bee cover too. the blase' delivery made it. the original tries so hard.
Avatar 6:15pm
glenn:

or sharon, lois and bram.

Miss Linda Lee:

kottke did amazing things with the 12 string guitar. really, these are great covers. love the heart of glass cover. it's such a goofy song to start with, the outre' arrangement works out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
dale:

i like the bad pluseseses version of 'comfortably numb'
  6:19pm
Miss Linda Lee:

got to hear more of them. i love it.

Hiya Mark! This has been a super show today. Loved the uke orchestra segue to Leo Kottke.

shirley did the name game song, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
dale:

i think that lady died last year.
  6:36pm
Miss Linda Lee:

@dale, yes, she sang 'the name game'.
  6:36pm
Listener Robert:

I have that album, "Whipped Cream and Other Delights". It was one of Mother's.
  6:39pm
Miss Linda Lee:

@Llistener Robert. for some reason, through the years, i've collected at least 4 copies! & then i remember the comic Pat Cooper doing a spoof of the cover on one of his albums, 'Spaghetti Sauce & Other Delights' i think it was. ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
dale:

i thought dolores ericson model on whipped cream died, but she's still covered with cool whip out there. pat cooper however is no longer covered with spaghetti on this realm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm
dale:

when i go through my albums i find 2 or 3 copies of 'the button down mind of bob newhart' and 'smothers bros live at the green onion' - guess you can't have too much of a good thing.
  6:48pm
Miss Linda Lee:

@dale, i remember hearing about his passing. my Italian grandma loved his records!
the Whipped Cream cover's actually been spoofed * a lot*. Soul Asylum did one too.
Avatar 6:48pm

Kewl version Live Groovies !
  6:49pm
Listener Robert:

Hard to believe this is that old.
  6:49pm
Miss Linda Lee:

one of my favorite rock n roll tunes ever.
@dale, another one that keeps coming up for me is the Ultimate Spinach lp. strange.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm
dale:

never heard of ultimate spinach but after googling i wish i would find one. first couple of glen campbell albums always surface, and that 'sounds in space with ken nordine.
  6:55pm
Listener Robert:

I'm trying to remember whether Herb Talbot & the Tijuana Tin got covered with something sloppy on "Get Smart". Seems like the kind of gag reference Leonard Stern, Mel Brooks, etc. would go for.
  6:55pm
Miss Linda Lee:

my god i'd love one of those ken nordine records!
  6:56pm
Miss Linda Lee:

@Listener Robert .. Tijuana Tin? that's a pretty knowing reference there ..
  6:58pm
Listener Robert:

Yeah, but it would've been capped by Barbara Feldon's getting covered with something wet & messy if they were to take it all the way. I've learned late in life that TV is CHOCK FULL of stuff like that on what you might think are unsophisticated shows, even commercials.
  6:59pm
Miss Linda Lee:

let alone cartoons!
  7:01pm
Listener Robert:

In 1989 my friends' & my jaws dropped as we were watching a 1957 Looney Tune, "3 Little Bops" when they laid on an allusion to the Bavarian Illuminati.

these deals won't last:
