Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 7:21pm Gary:

Loving this weird take -- and you know that Tom's Diner was basically the song that led to the final fine-tuning of the MP3
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 7:23pm Jesse K:

Yeha, I wish I knew more about that singer, It's a lousy mp3 taken from yutube so what comes around goes around
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 7:23pm Jesse K:

But at least you can watch it here: www.youtube.com...
Avatar    Tue. 10/6/15 7:27pm listener james from westwood:

Diggin' the sci-fi portal GIF theme tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 7:28pm Jesse K:

Thanks James...people-less doors so far...
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 7:31pm Gary:

From Stephen Witt's _How Music Got Free_: "Throughout 1989, listening tests continued in parallel in Erlangen and Murray Hill, but the American test subjects proved less patient than the Germans. After listening to the same rat-eaten, four-second sample of 'Tom Tiner' several hundred times, the volunteers at Bell Labs revolted, and Brandenburg was forced to finish the experiment on his own. He was there in New Jersey, listening to Suzanne Vega, when the Berlin Wall came down."

Avatar    Tue. 10/6/15 7:40pm listener james from westwood:

I think that was the procedure they used in "The Manchurian Candidate" to scramble Laurence Harvey's eggs.
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 7:45pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 7:45pm Jesse K:

I assume "the Berlin Wall came down." is a metaphor in that passage
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 7:52pm Uncle Michael:

James, they're in everyone's eggs.
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 7:56pm Gary:

It amazes me that, of all of the things that they were able to digitally compress, the isolated human voice was the most difficult -- everything else they figured out relatively quickly. Witt is given to a bit of hyperbole for humor's sake in that book, so yes, Brandenburg may not have actually been working on the MP3 listening tests on November 6
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 7:58pm northguineahills:

I forgot to say HALLOO! Thanks Jesse, just a wee bit busy to say anything else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 7:59pm Jesse K:

Howdy northguineahills! Not a problem, Im' almost always listening and lurking these days
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 8:06pm Doug Schulkind:

I love that this is on Canary Records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:07pm Jesse K:

It's really a beaut and perfect with the name!

This show is making it difficult to plan a show.
Avatar    Tue. 10/6/15 8:14pm Jeff Golick:

@Gary: did we talk HOW TO WRECK A NICE BEACH? You'd dig, if you haven't already dug, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:14pm Uncle Michael:

< same boat
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:15pm Jesse K:

Hiya Jeff! Just do what I do and make it all up on the spot
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 8:17pm northguineahills:

Wow, dug that Tale Ognenovski, maybe it was the combo of the clarinet and bass drum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:19pm Uncle Michael:

I have Friday & Saturday this week and I'm flying to Chicago tomorrow and back on Thursday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:20pm Jesse K:

Tale Ognenovski is a treasure. He's also a master of Jazz, classical and folk composition, at least according to his records
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 8:21pm Gary:

Jeff, I started it, but got sucked into The Sound of Tomorrow and then this Stephen Witt. I think I was somewhere around the Voder / 1939 World's Fair section. I gotta go back to it now that I've finished the Witt book
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:27pm Uncle Michael:

I remember having time to read books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:27pm Uncle Michael:

This baseline puts me in mind of Television.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:31pm Uncle Michael:

bass line. I shouldn't have stopped reading books.
Avatar    Tue. 10/6/15 8:34pm listener james from westwood:

I found HOW TO WRECK quite informative, even as I wished it had been set in a larger typeface. (Likely wanted to avoid the book being gargantuan/more expensive.) #publishinggeek

Wait, what was the url for this Mainliner? I forgot to copy it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:53pm Jesse K:

Sorry, that was the url for the image, I pasted it into the wrong cell and it screwed up the formatting. Here's details on the Mainliner: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 8:54pm northguineahills:

Aye, i have some Mainliner, but not this one. This is killer! The hi-fi is headbanging!
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 8:57pm Gary:

It's a pretty superawq track
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 8:59pm Uncle Michael:

this is amazing
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 9:01pm northguineahills:

Yeah, I love Mainliner, and this is by far, the most amazing track I've heard by them. (the neighbors are already deaf).
Avatar    Tue. 10/6/15 9:03pm listener james from westwood:

Two mighty hours! A third hourlong set would be boss! Do as the spirits direct!
Avatar    Tue. 10/6/15 9:24pm Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: WRECK A BEACH *is* informative, almost too much so. I just plowed through and hoped some parts would stick.
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 9:30pm northguineahills:

Wow, that was really different for Aaron Dilloway! Me likey!
Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 9:31pm Gary:

Just DLed half a dozen studio & live Mainliner things ... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 9:32pm Jesse K:

Yeah I think that Dilloway was just reissued maybe? We heard maybe 4 minutes of a 25 minute track. Perhaps when I'm feeling sleepy we can hear the entire thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 9:33pm Jesse K:

@Gary, hold on to your hat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 9:45pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Tue. 10/6/15 9:56pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/6/15 9:57pm Jesse K:
