After Korla Pandit's death, it came out that Pandit was an African-American "passing" for South Asian. Not quite as revelatory as the story of Billy Tipton, but fascinating nonetheless.

Hi Michael!

I've been playing Even More SuperHits of the 70s at the beer store I work at and it's a HIT!

I wonder if you (or the station) still have the previous collections so I can grab at the next fundraiser.
Avatar Sat. 8/15/15 11:52am glenn:

i know a couple people who invested in the startup of trivial pursuit. they're still getting big ass royalty cheques. {note canadian spelling}.
Avatar Sat. 8/15/15 11:52am Tomophobic Tom:

I'd go Craig Finn, but that's just me. For the greatest living songwriter, that is.
Avatar Sat. 8/15/15 11:57am Michael Shelley:

Fernando- I get that question a lot - and the short answer is: if the station has copies of an old premium they're usually happy to give it to you if you'd prefer it over a current one - just write a note when you send payment - and they'll do their best to please you. When in doubt - email listener services honcho Joe Mcgasko - nicest guy in the world - and he'll tell you what's possible - but our policy is to make folks who pledge happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 8/15/15 11:57am Gaylord Fields:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/15/15 12:18pm Gordon FM:

Hi Michael, Hi Gaylord! You guys make the weekend so much more enjoyable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 8/15/15 12:18pm Juke Joint Jonny:

Four Freshman are the vocal group equivalent of the white modern jazz big bands from the '40s like Claude Thornhill or Charlie Barnett who were interpolating the new bebop harmonies into their arrangements. Yes, they are suuuuuper white, but rooted in bop and there really isn't a more African American form than bebop.
  Sat. 8/15/15 12:21pm Bill in W.O.:

Beautiful - ya can't beat Lefty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 8/15/15 12:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

TY Sir for address!

...I presume we're excluding Dylan, Cohen & Sir Macca to make it interesting. Dylan has noted Carole King, & Goffin & King were Lennon & Macca's team model of course. Ray Davies is maybe the one whose turn it is to be more widely credited as such?

One thing about Jazz is it works off Standards, so has that connection to 'White' Pop. No untangling the threads every whichway...Jazz of course has to Swing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/15/15 12:27pm Stevel:

Dear GOD, I love the Muffs. Pretty sure it was you, Michael Shelley, who introduced me.
  Sat. 8/15/15 12:29pm Don Juan:

I have 3 questions for Kim..1) Do you still go out with Ronnie? 2) How come you never released anything on Larry Hardy's In the Red Label? 3) Did Dave Katz Nelson help put out your 1st LP?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 8/15/15 12:29pm Juke Joint Jonny:

You need both rhythmic and harmonic invention for good bebop. The pop bop white bands tended to focus on the harmony, which of course the boppers often found through studying modern classical music. It isn't all black and white…
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sat. 8/15/15 12:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nope!
  Sat. 8/15/15 12:35pm spleeng:

Thanks Michael! First two Muffs records....amazing. Sorry, but Kim outclasses The Pixies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 8/15/15 12:50pm Stevel:

Amen to getting older and not giving a crap (and actually being nicer!)
  Sat. 8/15/15 1:05pm DG:

That Wilson clip was kind of sad....and fast. Didn't realize it was Terry Gross until I saw that it was from "Fresh Air." Brian sounded a bit higher-pitched too, but maybe that was due to whatever Landy was prescribing for him.
