Totally heard the title of the Sons of the Pioneers cut now on the stream as "When the Golden Rain Comes Down." Not my cup of tea, but hey, what happens on the trail, stays on the trail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 8:59am Jeff Golick:

Ha. Mornin', @listener james!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:04am listener james from westwood:

Morning, Jeff, Jeff J (if he's got ears on), and all!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:05am Uncle Michael:

I'm into Out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:07am Jeff Golick:

Welcome, @Uncle Michael, c'mon out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:08am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oh good ! You got some Out in? I'm all outta Out...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:10am Jeff Golick:

Hey there, @Revolution Rabbit Nov63!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:10am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or will you be playing some Third Stream on the 2nd stream...not to yerknow butt into trail business...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:14am Jeff Golick:

As long as we don't cross streams, I think we're ok, @Rev.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:23am listener james from westwood:

Ahhhh, "Ghostbusters." The author of a book I just finished editing started his chapter on executive assistants and other gatekeepers with the "I am the Keymaster ... are you the Gatekeeper?" quote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:25am Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: excellent.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 9:31am βrian:

I never saw Ghostbusters. Did I miss something?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:31am Jeff Golick:

sldkfjl;askdjfl;askdjf, @βrian.

Also: hello!
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 9:33am βrian:

You're a middle-of-the-keyboard kind of guy.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 9:33am βrian:

Et bonjour !
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:33am Jeff Golick:

Home position!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:34am kimgland:

nice tunes
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:36am Jeff Golick:

Glad you are enjoying, @kimgland, and welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:36am listener james from westwood:

That was about as good as I did in my actual seventh-grade typing class.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:38am kimgland:

always a pleasure, jeff
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 9:38am βrian:

What, they handed you a blue pencil and told you to get lost? (Do they even offer typing classes anymore. Painful but damn useful, I think.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:39am doctorjazz:

Hi all, nice track by Warren Smith (just got in and started DO up first thing).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:40am Jeff Golick:

I am still incredibly grateful for my 5th (?) grade typing classes, on some giant IBM selectrics. Seems as invaluable a skill as ever...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:40am listener james from westwood:

I covet the typing skills it theoretically imparted far less than the manual typewriter on which I learned them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 9:41am Jeff Golick:

Rise and shine on, @doctorjazz! Warren Smith is a treasure.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 9:42am βrian:

Manual? Did they make you do pinky push-ups as a part of your training regimen?
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 9:56am Jeff J:

A belated good morning to all hanging OUT here!
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 9:59am βrian:

Cassette? Not 8-track??
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:07am Jeff J:

Still waiting for the 8-track to make a comeback... seems like the one format that hasn't had a retro renaissance. Or maybe I just missed it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:11am doctorjazz:

Don't know Warren Smth's music well, familiar name, a new avenue to check out. Heading to Amazon...
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:11am Jeff J:

Such odd burbling bass sounds on this Syreeta cut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:11am Artie Haywire:

7th grade typing class did impart a valuable skill, along with an outdated propensity to add two spaces after every period. Like that. Then HTML came along and started condensing two into one. Life's complicated. Yep.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:14am duke:

Hi D:Oers I'm under the influence of a groove
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:14am doctorjazz:

7th grade typing was something I managed to avoid using until the past 10 years (it was possible until relatively recently not to type), finally getting decent at it.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:15am Jeff J:

Hey ya, Duke! Us, too. And a rubber-y one, at that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:16am Jeff Golick:

@doctorjazz: some of Smith's recent, small-label stuff can be found at bandcamp, too: warrensmithnaturalculturalforces.bandcamp.com... eugenechadbourneoddtime.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:17am Artie Haywire:

So glad I wore my lamé jumpsuit today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:18am Jeff Golick:

@Artie! Hey-a! I have an OCD-like propensity to delete that second space after a period.... We'd get on well.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:18am Jeff J:

It's a fashion always in style, Artie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:20am Jeff Golick:

Are they saying, "oh so sheepy?"
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:21am βrian:

I thought so, too, but my cat begs to differ. No lamé for him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:23am Artie Haywire:

Typographic pretensions vs. muscle memory. Different days, different winners. Doomed to be erratic. Can OCD be bent to support rigid adherence to randomness of behavior? Is this how the Buddha got started? Or was that Rangda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:26am Jeff Golick:

I don't think OCD can be bent.

BTW, me and the missus finished season one of Homeland last night. Can anyone out there offer an opinion on whether we should go on to season two?
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:28am Jeff J:

I started Season Two and the first few episodes are fine, but then it gets *terrible.* Even less plausible than "24." Apparently the first season was based on an Israeli show and they didn't have anything to copy for the 2nd season.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:29am Jeff J:

"Homeland" was filmed in Charlotte, btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:30am Jeff Golick:

Ah. Yes, thanks, JJ. It felt very much as though it should've been a one-arc show: one season, goodbye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:31am listener james from westwood:

I am hearing very good things about "Deutschland '83." I am considering watching that alongside another show I haven't seen yet, "The Americans," for a Cold War nostalgia daily double.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:31am Jeff J:

Agreed - and the final episode had a clear ending that they chickened out and didn't see through.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:32am Polyus:

I missed Bertha Baptist - is she the anti-Bertha Butt?
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:32am Jeff J:

@LJFW, I haven't seen "Deutschland" but the first two seasons of "The Americans" are remarkable and very worth seeing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:33am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Polyus! Based on the song, Bertha Baptist also gets down!
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:34am Jeff J:

@Polyus - She's got her own righteous funk!
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:37am Jeff J:

James "Blood" Ulmer on this Roots track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:38am Jeff Golick:

It would be interesting to parse the underlying politics of these shows - Homeland, The Americans, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:40am Jeff Golick:

Also, the main character of Homeland is a jazz fan - this seems to mark her as an eccentric genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:48am listener james from westwood:

Good to hear re: "Americans." I don't have cable, so my TV consumption is python-like: swallow a DVD season compilation, then wait a few months. Although I do go iTunes for stuff that I've gotten hooked on mid-show. Currently have Season 3 of "Veep" for the weekend's entertainment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:49am listener james from westwood:

Jeff, one assumes a certain amount of this traces back to "24," esp. for "Homeland."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:51am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...tidy little rhythm section here
...once in a while get a notion to stop clicky☆ing everything I like @ all as tho' this were fb, & just clicky☆ing the real standouts...is this how it feels to quit smoking??...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:51am Jeff Golick:

Veep is the real deal. Love that show, though I'm not up to date with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:53am listener james from westwood:

Oh hells yes, glad to hear another cut from the "Truck Turner" track. Tarantino used another peppy track from this film in "Kill Bill Vol. 1."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:54am listener james from westwood:

Every film should have a soundtrack entry titled "Pursuit of the Pimpmobile."
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:55am Jeff J:

Agreed, @LJFW! And Tarantino has great taste for recasting soundtrack material in his own films.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 10:56am βrian:

Is there a diamond in the back?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:58am listener james from westwood:

I'll be very disappointed if none of the cars pursuing the pimpmobile crashed into a fruit stand, as is federal law for all action films.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 10:59am listener james from westwood:

βrian: I hope so! Maybe that's why they're pursuing the pimpmobile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:01am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

... ☆ ...or it could be 'pursuit' as in acquiring exactly the perfectly appointed ride, each segment impressionistically correlating to a specific vehicular feature...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:05am listener james from westwood:

Either that pimpmobile
(a) was caught,
(b) eluded pursuers who found it empty, or
(c) went over a cliff and exploded in a glorious 1970s fireball
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 11:06am Jeff J:

@LJFW - I'm hoping for option (c) - but not before crashing through a few fruit stands!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:07am Jeff Golick:

The pimpmobile loses at least one hupcap, too, I"m pretty sure.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 11:08am Jeff J:

I'm guessing this also means we should all watch TRUCK TURNER at some point. Need to see that pimpmobile in action.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 11:08am Polyus:

I just found a copy of Shri Camel a couple of months ago. Very cool, unfortunately there are some pops and ticks that stick out. Gotta get that cleaned up.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 11:10am βrian:

Get rid of those ticks. Lyme disease is bad news.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:12am listener james from westwood:

@Jeff J: Should be added to the A/V Room viewing fare for the 2016 Record Fair.
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 11:12am Polyus:

I hear their little heads get stuck to the record if you aren't careful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:13am listener james from westwood:

No lie. Tick-related illness was given as the cause of death for former NJ governor Brendan Byrne's wife this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:13am listener james from westwood:

Or as he's now known. former NJ governor Brendan Izod. :\
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:14am Jeff Golick:

Back to TV for a sec? Anyone out there give Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp a chance? I watched, but was disappointed. All the eps should've stopped after each awesome opening sequence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:14am Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: (((guffaw))))
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:17am listener james from westwood:

A show full of opening scenes would have been better, maybe. Sounds like the way Hunter Thompson said he tried to write, each sentence of a piece like the lede of a story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:24am Jeff Golick:

Reminds me that I've been meaning to read I, THE DIVINE: A Novel in First Chapters, by Rabih Alameddine, for a while now...
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 11:25am Jeff J:

There's also Calvino's IF ON A WINTER'S NIGHT A TRAVELER - opening chapters from different novels loosely threaded together. Genius stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:26am Jeff Golick:

That, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:29am doctorjazz:

hectic at work, can only pop in and out, skim the comments. I had the same take on Homeland, watched and enjoyed the 1st season, couldn't get through the 2nd. Then again, I'm still catching up with season 5 of Supernatural!
copied those Bandcamp links, btw, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:37am Jeff Golick:

Sure thing, @doctorjazz!
Avatar Wed. 8/12/15 11:38am βrian:

Listening to Terry is making me hungry. How does that work?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:39am Jeff Golick:

Hmmm...not sure, βrian. Maybe we're just approaching the next meal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 8/12/15 11:40am Jeff Golick:

Of course, we're also approaching the next show!
