Thank Yahweh for MLB's At Bat app. With it you can listen to any baseball game, home or away announcers. Baseball on the radio in Pittsburgh is embarrassing and pitiful. At least the team is root-worthy.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:06am Artie Haywire:

The cellist is Michael Penha (not Penna). It looks as though this moving image was originally constructed as a gif animation, working from this source: Kevin Weir of fluxmachine seems to specialize in this sort of manipulation.

English teachers can use that Jim Stafford song to teach the importance of comma placement.
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 10:08am βrian:

@Alex. Actually, I think it remains ambiguous, but the comma should be there either way.
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 10:10am βrian:

A well executed pause there, Doug.
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:10am still b/p:

My mistake. I will burn in Hell (i.e. Mississippi)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:14am Alex In Illinois:

@still b/p: wackolyte! I can't believe that I never thought of that! Especially after that time when my friend Mike was the usher Acolyte wearing pious-looking white robe and holding this pole with a brass cross on top with one hand while guiding people to the communion rail with the other, and got my foot with the bottom end of the pole. He had become a Wackolyte.

Hot damn! A garage rock set from Doug!!
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 10:17am Doug Schulkind:

Why are leaf blowers legal to use anywhere? Get a rake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:41am coelacanth:

what is this "rake"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:41am listener james from westwood:

Any way Leaf Blower Man can be reported to your equivalent of 311 out there?
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:41am ottovonbqe:

People love leaf blowers. There's a guy in the building next to mine who will blow a single leaf for half an hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:42am Jeff Golick:

Here we go, yo.
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:42am Panjandrum Bobby McGee:

  Fri. 8/7/15 10:42am 67:

i agree but sometimes its a paycheck for somebody...
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:43am Sarah N:

Leaf rakers of the world unite! Make leaf mould! Seedlings love it.
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:43am ottovonbqe:

I don't understand leaf rakers either. Why does man need to clean up the leaves that fall to the earth? Asinine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:44am Alex In Illinois:

. . . and what about all of the extra unnecessary dust and junk they stir up? Some are electric, but many are gasoline powered, as if we needed yet another way to burn fossil fuels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:44am coelacanth:

we (where i'm working) have a no-blower rule for the groundskeepers. ...also a rule that the back of the mowers are open,so the cut grass (weeds) get thrown back to where it belongs. (the ground)
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 10:44am Doug Schulkind:

Now call that performance art and I can get behind it.

Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:47am Jagannath The Tiny:

Seriously though, energy consumption for it's own sake is essential for a capitalist economy.
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:48am ottovonbqe:

I wonder how much gas you could burn blowing a leaf from new york to california.
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 10:48am Doug Schulkind:

Hug that tree!
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:48am glenn:

maybe so, but leaf blowers are awesome for cleaning off a freshly stripped roof, or a new floor deck.
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:49am glenn:

although i use a rake for leaves.
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:49am ottovonbqe:

you'd need a really sturdy leaf too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:49am coelacanth:

if it were up to me the leaves would be allowed to stay were they fell- to do what nature intends them to do...& we'd have healthier trees for it.
...and there'd be as many,if not more people employed if more things were done without power tools.
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

The leaves in California are already burning, unfortunately.
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 10:51am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:52am Kalki At Last:

@ the old fish...agree with you there. Let it be!
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:53am ottovonbqe:

Well, what if I blew a whole pile of succulent leaves to California - could their moisture be extracted to save the day? I'd be a hero...

Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 10:54am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:54am Jeff Golick:

It must suck to be a working jazz musician, plying your trade, only to see an album emerge from FIFTY YEARS AGO that is as great is this Giuffre.
Avatar Fri. 8/7/15 10:54am still b/p:

I think Forrest Gump inadvertently invented the leaf blower and then pursued a lone leaf coast-to-coast repeatedly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 10:54am coelacanth:

ottovonbqe, you better get on that!
  Fri. 8/7/15 10:55am 67tele:

they think you're so pretty when you're luscious and new, then when you're all old and dried out they either want to blow you away, scrape you up or smoke you - lets face it its tough being a leaf

I bet you are flash dancing with somebody else's chair at work, Dean. Better clean up all that water.
  Fri. 8/7/15 11:25am Dean:

We got a drought here. Any water helps.

Pope Abba makes a "Dancing Queen" joke! I love this new pope!
  Fri. 8/7/15 11:27am Dean:

...the dancing machine.

These are the times in which we live, Moore's Law and all that. Soon we'll have machines to do our dancing for us. It'll take one to tango.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/7/15 11:29am Carmichael:

Heya Doug and and cello sawers. Yes, we have quite enough leaves here, on fire or not. Don't send us any weeds either. Although weed is fine.
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 11:30am Doug Schulkind:

Happy tokey-toke to you, Carmichael!

Flight of the Bumble Bee perhaps. I was stung by a wasp yesterday INSIDE ones trousers. Should have worn my bicycle clips.
  Fri. 8/7/15 11:42am Dean:

Moore's Law is shorthand for the rapidly increasing capacity of technology to perform more, and more complex, calculations. It was a remark in 1965 by one of the founders of Intel to the effect that the power of an integrated circuit (measured in the number of transistors) had doubled year after year. He predicted that pattern would continue, and he has been proven pretty much right. Think about that: since 1965 the power of an IC has increased on the order of 2^50. This is why we have greeting cards that sing to us.
Avatar    Fri. 8/7/15 11:42am βrian:

@BUK: Jiminy, I presume.
  Fri. 8/7/15 11:43am Dean:

Oops. Thanks, ndbob. Mistake in my precis: the doubling occurs every two years, so 2^25.
