Good morning Jeffs and non-Jeffs
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 9:05am northguineahills:

I somehow missed the magic hour when it was Thursday morning (forgot or just wasn't listening to music), and right at 9am, my wfmu stream randomly switched to gtds stream
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:06am Jeff Golick:

Morning, @duke! Hello, @fred! Hey there, @ngh!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:17am listener james from westwood:

How do, Jeff and Jeff! Delayed by a train but happy to dive in amid cumbia!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:18am Jeff Golick:

Great to have you here, @ljfw. Back home now, or elsewhere?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 9:19am doca:

Hi, Jeffs and D:Oers, classy start today!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:20am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @doca! Yeah, starting with the loveliness today. We'll go downhill from here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 9:25am doca:

Is it too embarrassing if I say that I love The Carpenters?
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:26am listener james from westwood:

@Jeff: Back home after foraging for groceries! But time off looms!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:27am Jeff Golick:

Heck, I'm playing this...and the Hollebeck crew likes it "A Lot," so you're in some decent company...
Avatar    Wed. 6/3/15 9:28am duke:

This is the best version of this song I have heard
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:29am Jeff Golick:

The album also contains reworkings of "Up, Up and Away," and "True Colors," btw.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:45am listener james from westwood:

Hope you're able to finish this National Health cut before the Cameron government privatizes it.
Avatar    Wed. 6/3/15 9:45am V Priceless:

Mornin' Jeff and all!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:46am Jeff Golick:

Ha, @ljfw. And also: ugh, yeah.

Good morning, @V Priceless!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:49am Jeff Golick:

Oh my.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:50am Doug Schulkind:

Gööd morning, Jeff!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:50am Jeff Golick:

Hellö, Döug.
Welcome to the Seventies.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:52am Gary:

Hey, you started without me! :(
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:55am Jeff Golick:

Sorry, Gary! I'll start over now...
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:56am Jeff Golick:

If Tony C can play garage rock, I can play prog, right?
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:56am Doug Schulkind:

I missed the first 40 minutes, too, Gary. I woke up at 7:00 and then took a nap.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:56am Gary:

THANK YOU
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 9:58am Jeff Golick:

We're just going FULL-ON 1970s this set...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 9:59am doca:

Maybe you should ask yourself if it's too embarrassing if you that you like prog, @JeffG
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 9:59am doca:

*if you say that you like prog
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:01am Jeff Golick:

I'm ok with it, @doca. It's more my lack of knowledge that is embarrassing. Thanks for letting me experiment on your ears.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:02am Jeff Golick:

Listening to this Herbie cut and thinking, "...and Miles was the sell-out??"
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:03am Jeff Golick:

This Herbie record got one star in the Rolling Stone Jazz Record Guide.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 10:04am northguineahills:

I dig the Carpenters. I have to admit I somehow missed this Herbie Hancock record, and I have most of what he did in the 60s-early 80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 10:05am Artie Haywire:

Applying anti-seize compound to my boogie machine...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 10:07am doca:

Well, I have to go. I'll be on the app. Thanks for the prog, @JeffG!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:10am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for tuning in, @doca!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:10am Jeff Golick:

Heya, @Artie!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:12am Jeff Golick:

Hope you don't void your warranty there, @Artie.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:29am listener james from westwood:

Excellent King Tubby!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:33am Jeff Golick:

Yah, wonderful album, too. Hard to go wrong.

This Hermeto is one weird tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 10:38am northguineahills:

Superbly excellent Jeff, I'm out, thanks again!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:39am Doug Schulkind:

I wonder if Hermeto Pascoal has ever chatted with Helmut Newton.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:39am Jeff Golick:

Thank you, @ngh! Take care, see you again soon...
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:41am Jeff Golick:

Not sure, Doug, but I think he collected hermit crabs.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:42am βrian:

The airwaves are scintillating now.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:44am Jeff Golick:

Hi, βrian! Thanks for upping our vocabulary game here on the boards.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:48am listener james from westwood:

@Jeff: That's why you should always use protection with hermits.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:50am Jeff Golick:

Ha.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 10:56am βrian:

But only if you choose to lead the hermetic life.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:12am Gary:

Fela!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:12am listener james from westwood:

I am either adept at being hermetic or a Hermetic Adept.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:13am Doug Schulkind:

Such a fantastic cover for this Fela LP: ecx.images-amazon.com...
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:13am Jeff Golick:

My first Fela, and possibly still my favorite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 6/3/15 11:14am Jesse K:

late morning all!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:15am Gary:

I need every Fela recording ever. I have GTDR to thank for making me see that particular light
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:15am Jeff Golick:

Jess-say! Welcome.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:16am Jeff Golick:

Gary, I came to Fela late, around the same time these records were being reissued on CD. Went nuts, gorging. Never regretted it.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:29am Doug Schulkind:

Mra, one of my favorite songs of all time. Written by Dudu Pukwana for his friend and fellow musician Christopher Columbus Ncgukana!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:30am Jeff Golick:

Is that the proper capitalization, Doug? I'm always in doubt about that...
  Wed. 6/3/15 11:34am Dean:

Careful with those segues, please. I heard MRA elide into "Dock of the Bay," and I'm thinking, "This sure sounds a heckuva lot like WSQ."
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:34am Jeff Golick:

...and now I see that Doug played that very same Mra cut almost exactly 9 years ago: wfmu.org...
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:35am Doug Schulkind:

Jeff, it's been published as both Mra and MRA, but the first spelling is correct. "Mra" is an affectionate slang meaning "brother" (similar to "Bra") in South Africa. Ncgukana was known as Mra.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:36am Jeff Golick:

@Dean! Your ears know all.
  Wed. 6/3/15 11:37am Dean:

Usually, my ears know awl.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:39am Jeff Golick:

Ouch.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:39am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Doug!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:43am Doug Schulkind:

Not to be confused with another South African musical hero, Ephraim Nkanuka, who had one of the greatest nicknames in the history of humanity:

Cups-and-Saucers

Now THAT is a nickname!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:44am Jeff "T-Cozy" Golick:

Already looking forward to your all-nickname show, Doug.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:47am Doug "Double Boiler" Schulkind:

My favorite baseball name: Urban Shocker. And it's not a nickname.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:49am Jeff Golick:

Y'all follow the Tournament of Names aka Name of the Year? www.nameoftheyear.com

Amanda Miranda Panda won. Real name.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:50am Jeff Golick:

SPEAKING OF AMANDA..join her here immediately following this show, for Nazario Scenario: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:50am Doug Schulkind:

And speaking of Amanda, she's up next on the Drummer Stream in 10 minutes: wfmu.org...
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

Ha!
  Wed. 6/3/15 11:51am Dean:

I suppose I should reveal my last name: Ofthehistorydepartment.
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 11:54am Jeff Golick:

Less cowbell.
Avatar    Wed. 6/3/15 11:58am duke:

Thanks Jeff

Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 12:03pm Gary:

Thanks for the awesome, Jeff!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 12:05pm Jeff Golick:

Thank you Gary. Looking forward to How German Is It (via archive). Have you read the Abish book?
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 12:05pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey, clear the decks for AMANDA!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 12:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Of shit, never mind! I switched over to my iTunes which was playing some jazz that I thought was you. I'm an arsehole!
Avatar Wed. 6/3/15 12:09pm Jeff Golick:

It was v tight, Doug, but I got 'em cleared pretty much right at 12:00:00.
