A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Morning! Let's have a good day everyone! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!

![]() Primitive Motion reminds me of Julie Cruise. |
![]() |
![]() - green greets troubladours. Art recalls jewelry & dessert treats - but hard materials as a statement? Just as likely I'm wrong & the Design's the thing... |

![]() Just a quick note for Mid-Hudsonaires in case it's not on the WFMU Cultural Calendar: Ms. Laura Cantrell will be playing at BSP in Kingston tomorrow night. |

there is some primitive chunk of my brain whose sole purpose is to make me grin every time i hear any version of 'In C'. this version is particularly adept at tweaking that bit of my subconscious. thanks! |

![]() I was dreaming about Terry Riley last night. But his name was Poppy Nogood in the dream. He just sat there and smiled a lot while I tried to explain things. |

¡Buenos dias, Mundo Moderno!

![]() i would LOOOOve to go to scotland. The landscape looks other worldly and oooo the accents. was it hard for you to understand their english? i tried to speak with a canadien from Quebec last week and it was nearly impossible to understand him. |
![]() |
![]() ...it looks tiny, like jewelry or candy - but an interesting confluence of textures & colors... |
![]() |
![]() bueno claw! hello chromaphone. no skips here, only live mostly african musicians |
![]() |
![]() When cooking rice, is it better to add olive oil or butter to keep things from sticking? I hate it when it all blobs together. |
![]() |
Tue. 5/12/15 9:20am
chromaphone:
Cool. Mornin' |
![]() |
Tue. 5/12/15 9:20am
pierre:
you'll go there one day i'm sure ! But if you do, please pass by here before !!! :) Yes I lived one year in Glasgow, so the accent is no problem for me (after the first three pints), then Edinburgh is not very strong. |
![]() |
Tue. 5/12/15 9:21am
pierre:
But the accent match the landscape in beauty, I totally give you that |
![]() |
![]() Hello Trouble and associates. @Ken buy a rice cooker and make sure you let it sit for at last fifteen minutes after it finishes cooking. |
![]() |
![]() If you can understand Groundskeeper Willie, you should be fine. |
![]() |
![]() @pierre the accent in the Shetlands and Orkneys is getting Scandinavian. |
![]() |
![]() Mmm... sticky rice... |
![]() |
![]() Thanks, Brian. I do have a rice cooker. I need more practice. |
![]() |
![]() good morning! |
![]() |
![]() africa express is just the thing for today |
![]() |
![]() Scotland is beautiful, and I believe you can still get a Vegetarian haggis in Edinburgh - although I'm not sure about a gluten free one. |
![]() |
![]() @Ken just add water. Say three measures of rice, add three and one half measures of water. No butter. Leave it turned on after cooking then give it a good stir and it should come out separate. |
![]() |
Tue. 5/12/15 9:28am
pierre:
@Brian : yeah that's exactly what an guide told me :) @ Webhamster Henry : you can absolutely still get veggie haggis :) |
![]() |
![]() When the sun shines in the Highlands of Scotland there is no finer place. Where the rain falls in Scotland there are better places to be. |
![]() |
![]() That's good news - I haven't been back to Scotland since we honeymooned there in 1996! |
![]() |
![]() people seem to over-complicate rice. just get some salted water on the boil, chuck the rice in when it's boiling and as long as you stir it at the start when you add it to the water, the grains won't stick. don't stir after that while it's cooking. 15 minutes later on a fast boil, it's perfect. i assume the scots deep fry their rice |
![]() |
![]() I hope the Scots are happy with their election result. Anything with the word Nationalist in it worries me. |
![]() |
![]() if you can't get to Scotland, at least watch I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING (1945) with Wendy Hiller. |
![]() |
![]() Is there a Scots version of in C? |
Tue. 5/12/15 9:33am
sugarwolf:
Trouble was the Canadian speaking English or French? For some reason I can understand French spoken by Canadians better than by the French. Also had some Swiss people in my shop that I could sort of understand.
![]() |
![]() For you bagpipe fans. In pibroCh |
![]() |
Tue. 5/12/15 9:36am
pierre:
@Webhamster Henry: this is a fine place to honeymoon :) @ Brian : I like the rain there, I feel like it's part of the land, therefore I don't mind it as much as i do in Paris for example. Also, i've met two kind of Scots, some SNP's, and some that didn't care, they were rather happy, everybody was saying that it was rather historical. |

![]() saw that webmaster henry it was great! i also tried to watch that brit detective series set in wales, gorgeous from the get go, but gruesome. couldn't deal with the gore. sugarwolf: he was difficult to understand in english but his see sawing accent en francais was insanely difficult to understand. listening to the french in the movie i saw this weekend about the guitar scene in agadez Niger was much easier |
![]() |
![]() here is a link to that fab agadez film: anthologyfilmarchives.org... |

The Blur tune has more than a little Flaming Lips about it. Not that that's a bad thing.

![]() ...think I've always liked Blur (maybe even their 1st album the most - opposite of everyone else)...but Oasis only selelctively! - so we'll compare them to Flaming Lips now!... |

![]() |
![]() @Trouble I'll be sure to check him out. By the way, new Arnaud Fleurent-Didier stuff on the horizon, it would seem. |

Big excitement in the 'hood this week. We spotted a Cooper's hawk maneuvering low in the trees, intent on the neighbor's chickens who were out for a stroll. But all were swept to safety, and we were spared any comparisons to Wild Kingdom. |
![]() |
![]() hehehe , vetiver is great!! |
![]() |
![]() uh uh, close call Brian. my two remaining hens weathered the winter but are making quite a ruckus in the backyard without a lot of eggs to show for themselves. |
![]() |
![]() Trouble our chooks seem to have picked up the pace after wintertime, for old gals that is. |
![]() |
![]() what's old brian in UK? our gals are going on three and they are still laying but of course not daily. |

Eager to see that film sometime. Love the organ in Unique Child. Saw an old Hammond at Salvation Army the other day that probably came from a church, for 150 bucks. Need? No. Can I play it? Only hamfisty idle hunt-and-peck riffs. Want? Oh, yes. |
![]() |
![]() Well they were rescued hens probably about five years ago and they would have been 1-2 years old then roughly. 'Time passes' as Dylan Thomas writes, by the by it was DT Day last week on the BBC www.bbc.co.uk... |
Tue. 5/12/15 11:55am
Mark:
I stumbled across another Cambodian album in the new releases section of the FMU library--I guess it was believed lost but then it reappeared, and they're treating it as "new." I don't think it's that new, though. But it's good--"Psychedelic Cambodia" or something. There's a great version of "House of the Rising Sun" on it.
![]() |
![]() whoah.. hot damn trouble, killed it today! many infinite thanks. TUESDAYS ARE GREEEATT!! |
![]() |
![]() cheerio!! next week Phil Sutton from Pale Lights does a dj set and DORIT CHRYSLER is live on the theremin!! |
