A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:03am d¢ pät:

yeah, my wife was taken with that book and started trying to clean up. My view is creative people don't spend all their time cleaning shit up--they spend time creating because they know where everything is. I could be wrong though..

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:11am Andrew Waterloo:

I could use a bit more cleaning up. For now I will keep using the box trick.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:13am d¢ pät:

I actually long to be orderly, organized in that way. But it would require tremendous energy and time to accomplish and I think I've come to terms with the fact that I'm a bit sloppy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:13am Priscilla:

What's the box trick? Throw everything in boxes?
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:14am d¢ pät:

RIBOT!! probably my biggest influence guitar-wise now..
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:14am Andrew Waterloo:

Put the stuff you want to keep because you 'might need it someday' in a box and close it up. Wait a week. If you can't think of something in the box that you might need just throw the box out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:16am Priscilla:

Ah. One week, you say? :-)
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:16am d¢ pät:

..and then in one week and one day, slap your head and say "Fuck, I throw away my train whistle!!! I NEED IT IN THIS SONG!!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:17am Andrew Waterloo:

You'd be surprised at how rarely you remember what you put in the box.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:18am d¢ pät:

actually, I've been tossing a bunch of crap out lately. You have to if you live in a tiny DC row house.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:20am glenn:

huh. i'm just now using some pieces of beautiful 1/4 sawn walnut i've been storing for ten years. i don't subscribe to the throw it out if you can't think of an immediate use for it theory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- too draconian for me - but does make the point about having stuff that you are not using.
...I think this might be the lady I saw talk about her book when I was in Santa Barbara; this lady spoke of the irony of Americans coming to learn about Feng Shui placement - when they're choke up w/ all these things. The U.S. is a July 4th ♋Cancer - acquisitive; we even take a home w/ us when we vacation on the road!...She wondered what it was about us - an anxiety from the Depression? Must.have.things. Frankly - I'm w/ dc pat & glenn though - I'm 100% that type. I'd bet Picasso's primary use of the housekeeper wasn't necessarily tidiness - nudge nudge...(If that's sexist, consider it a reflection on Pablo...)
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:22am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Reassuring that people are still making dub that sounds this good. I went to a dub convention last year and it was all monotonous techno-ey stuff. Just read that Hollie Cook is the daughter of a Sex Pistol and goddaughter of Boy George!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:22am Andrew Waterloo:

@glenn, I mainly use it for clutter and things that don't really have a place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:22am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- like - you glenn prob. have a workshop - a place for it...
  Tue. 4/21/15 11:22am Dean:

Don't throw away anything, ever. Nothing. Keep it all. I know from whence I speak. In a fit of pretend nonchalance about my stuff back in the '80s I tossed all of my issues of Flipside, Slash, and assorted punk memorabilia. I gained a box. I lost an archive.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:23am glenn:

then again, i have space to store stuff, so that's a factor.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:24am Trouble:

a dub convention!! now that sounds good, on paper at least. my husband is at a librarian convention, i'm sure he'd rather be at the dub version
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:24am common:

going out into the world...this music is perfect to have in my head now!
  Tue. 4/21/15 11:25am Dean:

Which librarian convention?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Everything is collectable if old enuff! Things usually get thrown out, or flooded or burned. Space indeed the final frontier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 4/21/15 11:28am Priscilla:

Just thinking about my near-intact box of ColorAid paper from 35 years ago. I would never be able to throw that out.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:29am the Canterbury wood-elf:

@Trouble United Nations of Dub. unodweekender.com
Old-school Brixton-style soundclashes as night. SO loud. I was surprised how young the crowd were - it seems dubstep has led a lot of youth back to dub, but they want it faster and more digital sounding. Very little King Tubby, Scientist or anything like that, so it was hard for me to get into. Excellent, peaceful vibes, tho', as you'd expect.

@dcp: - & Bluesbreakers ! - Blind Faith when not overplayed...
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:53am d¢ pät:

BLuesbreakers is John Mayall but ok...Not really interested in Blind Faith either.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:54am glenn:

that first bluesbreakers album is unbelievably influential, though, in everything from licks to solos to his guitar tone. he was the first guy to get that sound. so, for better or worse, pretty much every modern rock guitarist owes something to eric clapton.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:54am d¢ pät:

I saw John Mayall about 25 years ago and he tore the place to pieces. Amazing.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:55am chromaphone:

Clapton's tone has been inconsistent ever since the Bluesbreakers. Sometimes it is great sometimes it is less than great.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:56am glenn:

then again, i think peter green is better.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:56am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Never had any time for Clapton at all (and I didn't even know aboiut his racist outbursts til recently). He does what he does well enough, but he's been stuck inside a set blues scales for 50+ years. It's a joke that he's regarded a some kind of guitar uber-hero and someone as imaginative on the fretboard as Steve Hillage is the butt of anti-hippie jokes (at least in the UK).
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:56am d¢ pät:

@glenn: I don't buy that at all. Certainly influential but not exclusively.
Avatar Tue. 4/21/15 11:57am Trouble:
