It's possible to rock and still use proper grammar.
  Sun. 4/19/15 9:08pm Carmichael:

It is , Dave. But you have to balance precision with street cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/19/15 9:08pm JakeGould:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/19/15 9:27pm coelacanth:

there are at least 30 Jimi Hendrix albums with no overlap of material. (though plenty of different versions of the same songs.)
  Sun. 4/19/15 9:30pm Carmichael:

Yay, CD2 was an asshole!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 9:30pm pacific standard simon:

I've been listening to post-Daevid-Allen Gong the past couple days.
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 9:31pm Dave Mandl:

Hey doca.
@Carmichael: So true. Terrible deck.
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 9:31pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Yeah, same situation with Gong as Soft Machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 9:32pm pacific standard simon:

I tended to write those guys off at the time, but they had some good moves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 9:33pm pacific standard simon:

I like the drummer on this Mike Osborne record.
  Sun. 4/19/15 9:41pm Carmichael:

You all should do with CD2 what they did with the printer in Office Space.
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 9:42pm Dave Mandl:

I don't think I want to know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 9:42pm pacific standard simon:

Hmm... the unfortunately-named Alan Jackson, apparently. Unfortunate, because searching for a drummer by that name on Google is, of course, going to net you a whole lot of links to Booker T's drummer. Can't be the same guy, can it?
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 9:43pm Dave Mandl:

You mean the guy I mentioned earlier? That's Anthony Jackson, bass player.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 9:44pm pacific standard simon:

CD2 has cursed you with the curse of random silence!
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 9:45pm Dave Mandl:

We're listening to the new CD2 right now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 9:46pm pacific standard simon:

Cuneiform's website says the the drummer on the Osborne is Alan Jackson. Obviously, my attention wandered during the mic break.

“…a good WFMU rehab center…” Not touching that with a nitrile glove and a hand sanitizer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 10:27pm pacific standard simon:

Someone taught me how to do grilled cheese properly. All my life, I've been spreading butter on the outside of the bread; the right way is MAYONNAISE.

I've been re-reading Kenny Shopsin's book, Eat Me. It made me want comfort food. Anybody got any good stories about eating at Shopsin's?
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 10:41pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: I used to go there. Cool place, very New York. I think Steinski was the one who first took me there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 10:43pm Philthy woman:

usually confused- I'm with you. Love your show and the syncopation of your voice.
  Sun. 4/19/15 10:43pm rw:

Hello! I often make grilled cheese sandwiches on flour tortillas and call them quesadillas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/19/15 10:43pm JakeGould:

Funny you are mentioning Shopsins. I never went there but loved visiting Bleecker Street in the 1970s and 1980s. Now it’s just so… Vile… It’s just cutesy bakery junk and Starbucks. 100% no small businesses…
  Sun. 4/19/15 10:44pm Todd76%:

Dave – I've been enjoying a rare chance to actually sit and really listen to your show. Just wanted to say have been enjoying it in a big way. Thanks for the great selections!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/19/15 10:47pm coelacanth:

that's new to me, but there must be great stories.
'reminds me of an italian-ish family restaurant in nj (in edison?) where the constant music was only frank sinatra or elvis presley; and each night the national anthem played and everyone HAD to stand.
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 10:47pm Dave Mandl:

@Todd: Wonderful. Thank you.
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 10:47pm Tome:

I'm jealous, Dave.

@Jake - I guess anyone who lives in a city long enough can think of a street like that. Valencia Street in San Francisco, for one.

@rw - that's cool. Just put a spoon of crema and salsa on the soup.

Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 11:07pm Dave Mandl:

Hey there Andrew, Tome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sun. 4/19/15 11:07pm pacific standard simon:

@coelacanth - They should have at least mixed it up with some Rosemary Clooney!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/19/15 11:07pm JakeGould:

@PSS: Yeah, but Bleecker Street even 10 years ago was mom and pop. Now it’s just tourists. NYC’s mallification is just sickening.
Avatar Sun. 4/19/15 11:08pm HollyT:

Soundtrack for a colon examination.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/19/15 11:34pm coelacanth:

this was long ago. i was 24 but i didn't drink because my girlfriend was 19. ..but all the wait staff was middle-age women who acted like we were their offspring's friends that they didn't approve of. they served (very) dry bread before the meal and when we asked for butter or olive oil for it,she sneered:"we don't serve butter."! (but she didn't bring olive oil either.)

@coelacanth: Yup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/19/15 11:48pm JakeGould:

@coelacanth: That reminds me of when I was 21 and took a date—who was 19 or 20—out to “The Comedy Cellar.” We were carded, but they kept an eye on us because of the difference. I think I ordered a Long Island Iced tea and let her have a sip… The second the straw hit her mouth some matronly owner/manager came over and said, “If she takes one more sip out of your glass you’ve both kicked out! GOT IT!” So we spent the rest of the next hour or so terrified and wondering how top make the most of a blown evening.

I think I've said it before and I'm likely to say it again but World of Echo rules.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Sun. 4/19/15 11:55pm JakeGould:

@Ryab: Things may change in NYC, but honestly the Comedy Cellar is 100% the same as I remember it. It was the first comedy club I ever went to when I was like 16 or 17… Friends dad wanted to take us there since I was so into Eddie Murphy. Surreal sitting behind a wooden pole—got there late—in a place filled with drunks and smoke seeing how comedy happened for real. So magical!
