Oops sorry Jake

@MarcelM: Dammit Marcel M! Now I’m actually “Thirdsies.”

If I could switch with you I would ! hehe

But not me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/8/15 6:05pm JakeGould:

Right now I am defrosting meat, doing laundry and trying to figure out what to do with this 6 foot tall art object I just made.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/8/15 6:06pm JakeGould:

@MarcelM: Meaning, I like what I am doing. So no harm no foul.
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:06pm Listener Robert:

I'd be up for your doing the SAME MOVIE several times a year!

is andy eating?
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:08pm Marcel M:

@JakeGould: Why not defrost the meat in the dryer!? You can combine the tasks.
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:08pm Kevlicki:

or does he just have cottonmouth
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:08pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Well we certainly can't expect him to be in the studio and not eat or answer his phone...
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:08pm P-90:

PD Theater wasn't bad at all. Especially in light if some past train wrecks.

RISD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/8/15 6:08pm JakeGould:

Not my dryer. It’s in a shop around the corner. I don’t want to guard my meat for 1 hour.
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:09pm Marcel M:

Ahhh, can't argue with you there.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:09pm deez:

Risd!
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:10pm glenn:

why am i flashing back to tony and meadow soprano going to check out colleges?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:10pm common:

oh man. my partner went to risd. i love providence, but that school was intense...i hear.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:10pm MONEYBAG$:

Andy would love the providence music scene
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:10pm kppk:

Such expensive schools! Is this what the pledges were fir? :3

Go West young woman
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:10pm PMD:

;It's small and great and you can always move to Oregon later.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:11pm NateDogg:

Who's giving you more money?
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:11pm glenn:

art school? go to nascad.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:11pm P-90:

Don't miss out on a chance to go to Reed!
Great school, considered it myself, everyone I've ever met who went there was brilliant, and nothing but glad they went there. Barry "Dr. Demento" Hansen, for example.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:11pm PMD:

Physics can inform art.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:12pm asb:

Is sunlight important?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:13pm PMD:

oooo she has a good point. I'm leaning towards Reed now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:13pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Some of them become DJs like Faye and Trouble!
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:13pm Dean:

Don't make a decision based on mascots. For crying out loud, scrotums are a dime a dozen. Have you read "Ten Days That Shook the World"? Have an affinity for socialism?

Pay no heed to those silly stereotypes about hippies and hackey-sacks, either. Colleges are colleges. Some are more snooty, some less,
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:14pm Kevlicki:

RISD grads become street artists and eventually make the presidential poser design, like shepard fairey
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:14pm Dean:

Is cost an object?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:15pm Carmichael:

I have 2 kids going to Oregon colleges right now.
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:16pm Listener Robert:

P-90, I knew a guy who was dorm-mate of Barry Hansen's. They're both libertarians. The guy I knew (name slips my mind) wound up on the faculty of Harvard as an anthropologists. He could speak Inuktitut.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:16pm MONEYBAG$:

poser design, that's Shepard Fairey alright
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:16pm thatsyourtrouble:

I think Daisy wants to go to Reed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:16pm Carmichael:

@Kevlicki, they also become the Talking Heads.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:17pm P-90:

RISD has more art emphasis, but you'll get by far the better general liberal arts education at Reed, something you should not miss out on. If you're really an artist, you don't need to attend an "art school" as an undergraduate. There will be plenty of opportunities further on to study with experienced artists later on, if you want/need to.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:17pm Dean:

Is caller a trust fund kid on anti-depressives?
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:17pm Kevlicki:

Isn't that the same as reed, trustafarians...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:17pm common:

i wanna be a lego sculpter..sculptor and yea, same as it ever was. hot dogs on david byrne's arm at... i forget the name of the hotdog place he worked at in prov. new york system?
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:18pm glenn:

inuktitut is a place. he could speak inuit.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:18pm Katy:

I wouldn't pick somewhere too far away.. just go far enough to be independent. Otherwise after you graduate, you either never see your family again, or never see your uni friends again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:19pm ikє:

Reed has a very good reputation, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:19pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Go to art school, or spend the rest of your life with a chip on your shoulder trying to prove that you're as good as the art school kids. Or so I've heard...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:19pm Carmichael:

Yes it does, Ike. A smaller liberal arts college.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:20pm giraffe-o:

This show has some salient discussions, cogent callers, and intellectual discourse. What happened??
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:20pm asb:

Does anybody do an MFA? Is going for an MFA after Reed a viable option?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:20pm common:

great great great music scene in providence also. lightning bolt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:20pm PMD:

Yeah, I vote for Reed. Liberal arts is good.
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:21pm Marcel M:

All the cool kids hang out in Pawtucket now a days.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:21pm Dean:

She should talk to Tony Coulter about Portland. Record stores, book stores, beer, decent restaurant scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:21pm PMD:

I was born in Pawtucket, so it's cool.
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:22pm Kevlicki:

I'm an alum-not of Bard! I lived at the co-op house and went to all the awesome shows they had there. Its effin gorgeous up there
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:22pm Dean:

Is John Ashbery still at Bard?
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:23pm cobradan:

I spent the night in the photography building at RISD after the first Terrastock. I went to a lot of house party with Reed Kids. Better Weed in Oregon.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:23pm deez:

Did Daisy say what she is planning to do with her degree?
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:23pm Kevlicki:

Luc Sante was teaching at Bard for awhile
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:23pm Listener Robert:

Was Reed the school whose varsity football team creamed SUNY Maritime College in a game I was at last fall? They said the visiting school was excellent for business.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:24pm deez:

Flip a coin! If you don't want the outcome, then you know what you really want.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:25pm Katy:

Neat suggestion Deez :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:25pm Carmichael:

I spend a good amount of time in Portland, either visiting my brother or my college kids. Oddly, I have never met Tony Coulter. I should resolve that issue ...
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:25pm Dean:

This caller is a wonderful alum. A great spokesperson for her college.
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:26pm Listener Robert:

If closed-book exams are given in your dorm room, that tells me THEY'RE OUT OF CLASSROOM SPACE!!
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:26pm P-90:

Thing about Reed is, it's real "alternative" and all that, but it's an old, we'll-established, old-guard "alternative", a "traditional alternative"....er...
Hear the caller from Reed? Everyone who actually went there says they're glad they did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/8/15 6:26pm JakeGould:

Oregon is nice. Go to Oregon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:27pm PMD:

See, Daisy could meet her future partner there. Sexy scientists.
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:27pm Listener Robert:

Am I spoiling Daisy's outlook if I confess that I, too, am a scientist?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:27pm asb:

Ken: Reed has grades (which are apparently tough?), but they don't tell you what they are unless you ask.
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:28pm Marcel M:

I wouldn't sell my college.... didn't hate it but wouldn't recommend it.
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:28pm Listener Robert:

Can you replenish your dump time if Andy sings show tunes for a minute?
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:29pm Arielle:

if you wanna be an artist, go make art and then go to art school later to learn the technical stuff you wanna know. i havent made more than $20 hour since i graduated. student loans are crushing and schools are a business. there! honesty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:29pm Mike East:

I hated my college, that's why I left after a year.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:29pm spodiodi:

MAXIMUM INANITY!
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:30pm Dean:

Daisy is not thinking critically about this. That last pro-Reed alum didn't just say, "Of course." She talked about her classmates' engagement with academics. That's telling, a good sign.
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:30pm Listener Robert:

I went to Columbia & graduated in 3 yrs. (albeit w 18 AP credits). Lotta good that's done me career-wise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:30pm PMD:

Hey, news for you. Providence is the northeast.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:30pm deez:

My suggestion is if you're going for an Art degree, go to RISD for the program and the name. If you want to change paths or need a different type of job, saying you went to RISD looks really good on paper. Reed, maybe not so much.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:31pm Dean:

That's hilarious, Listener Robert. Maybe you shouldn't have taken those AP credits?
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:31pm spodiodi:

Nickels were made of nickel? Dimes of silver?
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:31pm Listener Robert:

Daisy knows about the "premise" premise of 7SD. She knows the jargon--she actually listened to her father's show. That's love.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:31pm Katy:

@ Arielle - I hear you - BUT - going to art school is useful because you meet people who might change your destiny. I started out as a modelmaker and am now an animator because of who I met. Of course - money is crap.. but every artist should expect that :)
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:32pm P-90:

In the job market after school, Reed will look to prospective employers as a great college degree, RISD as "merely" an art school degree. There IS a practical difference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:32pm Mike Noble:

I once managed to land a quarter perfectly on its edge while trying to use it for a binary decision.
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:33pm Listener Robert:

No, Dean, it's just that one's early drive & success isn't necessarily reflected years later.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:33pm Dean:

Head/tail=no, edge=yes
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:33pm YETI BOB:

it's easy. if you like to smoke weed, go to reed. if you are sort of pretentious, go to risd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:33pm Lizardner Dave:

I remember listening to Ken filling in for Greasy Kid Stuff with Harry and Daisy. So I'm feeling old right now.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:33pm SeanG:

good one yeti bob!
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:34pm spodiodi:

My advice: go into finance; retire at 30; study art then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:35pm ░Ī Ҡ ℰ░::

That's like the least sexy heavy breathing I've ever heard.
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:35pm YETI BOB:

(what rhymes with risd?)
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:35pm deez:

Those are the sounds Daisy will hear when's she's out of her mind high in Portland
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:36pm Reno:

I remember when Ken auctioned off his baby son's foreskin. I wanted to get it but realized it wouldn't fit.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:36pm spodiodi:

Best two things to ever come out of Risbee: Talking Heads and Les Savy Fav. Tim Harrington for president!
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:37pm Listener Robert:

Of course he had to join a frat, for protection against the likes of Louie the Shark raping him in their cell.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:37pm spodiodi:

Daisy, daisy, give me your answer do: Weed or Risbee?
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:37pm Dean:

I once decided NOT to attend a school after attending the admitted students day. The visit can be an eye-opener. Visit Reed, visit RISD. Let your intuition contribute to your rationale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:39pm PMD:

Coconut ice cream? Sounds a little gross. But I haven't tried it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/8/15 6:39pm JakeGould:

Nobody really cares about what school you went to past your first out of college job.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:39pm deez:

@spod
Have you seen Ryan Trecartins "a family finds entertainment"? RISD gold
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:39pm spodiodi:

Did you hear about the wallet made out of foreskin? Rub it and it becomes a briefcase!
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:40pm P-90:

"Everybody likes heavy breathing": is she her father's daughter, or what?
@Mike Noble: when the quarter landed on its edge, were you then mysteriously able to "hear" what everyone else around you was thinking for the rest if the day, like in the Twilight Zone episode "Penny for your Thoughts"? Or does that only work with pennys?
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:40pm Listener Robert:

I taught science for years at Mercy College. It's the place you go when you're 25 & need a token piece of paper to advance at your place of work.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:40pm spodiodi:

@deezy-in-tha-heezy nope.

  Wed. 4/8/15 6:43pm Dean:

Therefore she should attend a polytechnic in Liverpool?
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:43pm spodiodi:

Should have gone to Xavier to study the Xylophone
Avatar Wed. 4/8/15 6:43pm Marcel M:

  Wed. 4/8/15 6:49pm P-90:

Rhode Island is gorgeous, but the winters there are nasty and boring, you're basically stuck inside for more than half the school year. A complaint I've heard from RISD alums (who were nonetheless happy with the curriculum.)
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:49pm Listener Robert:

Actually, giving birth to twins on avg. is LESS of a chore than 1. Sure, you have to deliver twice, but usu. multiples are smaller & w smaller heads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/8/15 6:50pm JakeGould:

“multiples are smaller & w smaller heads.” KAWAII!
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:50pm Listener Robert:

Trust me, I took Obs-Gyn twice! Didn't pass, though, but it wasn't an acc't of lack of knowledge.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:50pm Dean:

More pro-Portland considerations: a killer brewers festival in late July, when the weather is SPECTACULAR.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:50pm Carmichael:

I live in northern California. We consider anything south of San Francisco to be another civilization.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:51pm Dean:

Ahem, Carmichael. I spent forty years in and near LA. It isn't *that* different.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:51pm spodiodi:

Cheers, Carmichael. Including Daly City (ZING!)
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:52pm spodiodi:

South San Francisco would have been better.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:52pm Dean:

Isn't that a pop song from the '80s? "Albert Einstein Hair"? Wait, I'm thinking of "Bette Davis Eyes."
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:53pm Reno:

Daisy doesn't seem to realize her dad sets the trends in America.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:53pm deez:

I live in SF. Still don't know what south San Francisco even is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:54pm Ike:

@Dean@6:50: So they brew killers in July? Does that happen in a giant cauldron? Do you need cumin and coriander for that?
     Wed. 4/8/15 6:54pm Listener Robert:

Bath salts?! Ken was afraid to even take my bubble bath home for Harry & Daisy!
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:54pm spodiodi:

It's that sign. On the hill... says "SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 4/8/15 6:54pm Carmichael:

  Wed. 4/8/15 6:56pm P-90:

As someone who grew up in Manhattan, then went to high school in California, I can attest to the strong benefits of moving to the left coast and experiencing the contrasts in cultures. There's no substitute for what you get from that experience. In general, I'd say Rhode Island is too close for someone coming from Jersey who wants to "go away" to school. Just in general...
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:56pm deez:

  Wed. 4/8/15 6:56pm ?:

@Ike: Yours is yet another example of my favorite kind of ambiguity, best represented by a sign here in town: HUGE LIBRARY BOOK SALE. HUGE modifies what? Actually, they do brew with weird stuff, like bacon. I still remember that stout, c. 1998.

That was me, ?, at 6:56.
  Wed. 4/8/15 6:57pm spodiodi:

  Wed. 4/8/15 6:59pm Dean:

Good factor to keep in mind, the adjunct situation. I would guess Reed and RISD aren't as bad as some in this area.

  Wed. 4/8/15 7:01pm P-90:

Daisy, if you go to a liberal arts college and decide you're impatient to switch to an art program, you can transfer, as the last caller suggested. AND there are opportunities to study art as a graduate student, you're not closing that door by any means. Good Luck!
