Hoo boy, y'all and Brian Turner have summoned forth some mighty prizes this year. Good luck and good hunting!
  Mon. 3/9/15 11:59am Peter:

Are the prizes listed somewhere?
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

Damn, I always get chills at this track. Just the opening loop alone. Stone classic.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:00pm Jeff Golick:

Feeling good now that you're here, @listener james!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:00pm Jeff J:

Hey Listener James! We've got some impressive goodies to unload, for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/9/15 12:00pm Andrew Waterloo:

good afternoon!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

@Peter: If you take a peek at the webpage, they're in the form of a rotating series of GIFs.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:00pm Jeff J:

Peter - Some of the prizes can be seen as GIFs on the playlist. We'll be announcing them as well.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:01pm Jeff J:

Afternoon Andrew - good to see you!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:01pm Jeff Golick:

Afternoon, @Andrew Waterloo!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:05pm listener james from westwood:

I sent some coin pre-Marathon and selected all the GTDR shows to share in it; didn't want the credit card co's destroying my smaller pledges over the course of 2 weeks.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:10pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:10pm Jeff J:

Sounds like a wise move @ljfw - and thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/9/15 12:11pm Andrew Waterloo:

James, what you can do is assign your smaller pledges to be billed later, and after the marathon it's just like filling out a larger pledge.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:12pm Jeff J:

$20 pledge (or more) gets you in the running to win a copy of this amazing Annette Peacock CD! Been OOP for year and a longtime favorite of ours. Believe me, your odds are good of winning right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/9/15 12:15pm Andrew Waterloo:

Definitely interested in hearing about the GTDR premiums this year.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:15pm Jeff J:

A big THANK YOU TO @Andrew Waterloo for the pledge! We appreciate the support.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:16pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:19pm Jeff Golick:

We're playing the hits...
Avatar    Mon. 3/9/15 12:23pm holland oats:

d:o! peoples! swaggy tatas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/9/15 12:25pm Andrew Waterloo:

This Annette Peacock is pretty awesome
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:27pm listener james from westwood:

@Andrew, you are correct. But I always bollix the bookkeeping on my side. Too much to wrap my limited math skills around. I don't know if previous versions of the Marathon pledge form permitted the multi-show split on one pledge, so when I spotted it I said, hell, let's let everyone wet their beaks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/9/15 12:29pm Andrew Waterloo:

I just keep a spreadsheet :)
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:33pm listener james from westwood:

Likely the smartest way to go! I'd be nowhere without my thicket of Excel files surrounding me in cyberspace.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:35pm Jeff J:

Hey @hollandoats! Thanks for joining us.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:35pm Jeff Golick:

There's a youtube vid of Last Exit out there with one of the better comments under it. Simply sez "more cocaine"
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:36pm Jeff J:

$20 pledge gets you in the running to win this Last Exit cd - one of their best! And your odds of winning are extremely good. Also on the prize block, Annette Peacock's "I Belong To A World That's Destroying Itself."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/9/15 12:39pm Andrew Waterloo:

Yah, I've been using Google Sheets simply because I can read and update them anywhere
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:42pm Jeff J:

THANK YOU to Listener Dean for his generous pledge! We appreciate the support!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:43pm Jeff J:

Just a few minutes to get in the drawing for Last Exit and Annette Peacock. A $20 pledge ALSO gets you in the running for our Grand Prize - 9 CDs from Relative Pitch!
  Mon. 3/9/15 12:44pm Dean:

My pleasure. It's a reflex response to Sharrock and Brotzmann.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:45pm Doug Schulkind:

I once saw Don Pullen dislocate a finger mid-performance. He winced, stopped for a moment to yank it back into place, then kept playing.
  Mon. 3/9/15 12:46pm Dean:

Sounds like a set-up for a joke. "Pull-en my finger..."
  Mon. 3/9/15 12:47pm Dean:

(Apologies. Almost everything sounds to me like a set-up for a joke.)
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:47pm Doug Schulkind:

Don Pullen's finger walks into a bar...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/9/15 12:49pm davex:

Hey everyone. I just checked in and the show checked out (the stream cut in instead). Back to normal now.
  Mon. 3/9/15 12:50pm Dean:

...and orders a whiskey, two fingers.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:53pm Doug Schulkind:

Lost the connection. Try re-connecting, Jeff G.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:54pm Jeff J:

I lost Jeff G on this end as well. Hope to be back in a sec!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:55pm Jeff J:

In the meantime, we have some pledgers to thank!

Listener Peter in Wilmington, DE
Listener Jeff in Jersey City
THANK YOU for your generous pledges!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:58pm Jeff J:

Our next prize that we'll be giving away is ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & MELTING UFO's "Son of a Bitches Brew." A jazz-psych monster-piece. For $20 pledge, you're in the running for that. And our grand prize.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 12:58pm listener james from westwood:

w00t! Go pledgers!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:01pm Doug Schulkind:

We've all lost connection with Jeff Golick in Brooklyn. But the borough has NOT been hit with a giant meteor (or is it meteorite?) Just talked to him on the phone. He is rebooting his modem and will try to reconnect.
  Mon. 3/9/15 1:02pm Dean:

Modem? Seriously?
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:02pm Jeff J:

@Dean - We are nothing if not high tech here! We're also replacing the duct tape - that often does the trick.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:04pm Jeff J:

Your pledges to WFMU help us upgrade the technology! Just another reason to give... $20 gets you in the running for some prizes you have a high probability of winning. $75 get you a copy of our premium of Monk tunes from the brilliant corners of the musical universe - plus FMU swag. And enters you into the grand prize drawing.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:05pm Doug Schulkind:

I mean router, OK. R-O-U-T-E-R. (I am a child of the '60s. The 1860s.)
  Mon. 3/9/15 1:08pm Dean:

I used a router once in woodshop.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:10pm listener james from westwood:

Bright side: The stream's offerings have been quite effective in getting me through a sluggish day of Daylight Saving Time fatigue.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:11pm Doug Schulkind:

The Internet is completely out in Jeff G's apartment. Possibly the melting snows have drowned the Verizon box in the backyard. He is calling neighbors to see if he can mooch Wifi.

I'm not kidding.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:12pm Jeff J:

Lovely tunes on the stream for sure, Listener James.
THANK YOU to everyone for hanging with us.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:13pm Doug Schulkind:

Amazingly, NOT ONE person has turned off the show since we lost the connection. Or at least a new person has stepped up for everyone who jumped.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:13pm listener james from westwood:

Yikes! It's those fiends at NPR. They just don't like being shown how to raise money with style and grace.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:15pm Jeff J:

We'll start working on our "NPR sabotage" show, @ljfw. Those cads!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:17pm listener james from westwood:

I can hear Joe and Todd on the WFMU stream, so that aspect of things is running OK.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:18pm listener james from westwood:

Actually I can hear Todd WITHOUT tuning in. Man can project!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:18pm Jeff J:

Operation: Brooklyn Wi-Fi Mooch is in process. Fingers crossed we'll be back shortly.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:20pm Jeff J:

One way or another, we WILL give away from prizes from the first part of the show.

A $20 Pledge gets you in the running for ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & MELTING UFO's "Son of a Bitches Brew."
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:20pm Doug Schulkind:

Nice Frank Wright cut playing on the stream right now. "Pluto" it's called.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/9/15 1:20pm Uncle Michael:

Hello all!

Hello Jeffs, my brothers in alms.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:21pm Jeff J:

Hey @Uncle Michael! We're experiencing some internet issues in Brooklyn but hoping to right that shortly.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Any requests for the stream?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/9/15 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

Veys mir!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Now a killer Mike Osborne track is playing: "Molten Lead"
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:24pm Jeff J:

New pledge to thank! Big internet-outage shout-out to Listener Michael from NYC!!! Mucho appreciated.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:26pm Doug Schulkind:

I've cued up Thelonious Monk's "Bright Mississippi" next. It's from the Monk LP Monk's Dream.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:28pm Jeff J:

Thanks Doug! $75 pledge gets you a copy of the D:O premium -- a far-flung selection of rare Thelonious Monk covers in various styles from many eras.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:28pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Michael in NYC! If you've got a mobile Internet hot spot, you might have a buyer in Brooklyn!
Avatar    Mon. 3/9/15 1:29pm holland oats:

After Monk, some Philip Cohran. (His eight or is it nine sons are all members of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, by the way.)
  Mon. 3/9/15 1:35pm Dean:

Hey, holland oats, see this?

Avatar    Mon. 3/9/15 1:36pm holland oats:

ha yes indeed - gotta keep a low profile!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:36pm Jeff J:

@Hollandoats - Jeff might take you up on that! He's one of the lower circles of Verizon hell as we type.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:38pm Jeff Golick:

Hang on...?
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:39pm Doug Schulkind:

Hark! The herald Destination Angels sing?!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:39pm Doug Schulkind:

Alive, it's ALIVE!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:40pm Doug Schulkind:

Jeff Golick is, I can only imagine, furiously trying to reconnect with Jeff Jackson in Charlotte. Monstrous!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:42pm Jeff J:

YES, back hopefully in a very few
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:42pm listener james from westwood:

Nicely done, mates! Thanks, Doug, for being our Emergency Broadcast buddy!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:43pm Jeff J:

We're officially back NOW!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:43pm Doug Schulkind:

Jeff G, you should talk to the nice people and tell them what they won!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:44pm still b/p:

With that stream lane-jump to that track, the pop-up player's usual halting on-off biz sounded like Satan muscling in.
Avatar    Mon. 3/9/15 1:45pm holland oats:

his master's voices!
  Mon. 3/9/15 1:46pm Dean:

"Verizon hell." Can't get more redundant.
  Mon. 3/9/15 1:47pm Dean:

Woo f-ing hoo! Thank you!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:54pm Jeff J:

$20 gets you in the running to win either Philip Cohran's "Malcolm X" LP *or* Acid Mother Temple's "Son of a Bitches Brew" CD! Odds are in your favor.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:55pm Jeff Golick:

UP NEXT: a cut from the D:O Premium, WELL, YOU NEEDN'T (CUZ WE DID). Yours for a $75 pledge!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 1:58pm Jeff Golick:

On the bright side, while swallowing dust under my desk, checking connections, I discovered the Roxy Music SIREN cd that I'd misplaced many moons ago.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:03pm Doug Schulkind:

I have to run to work. Should be interesting considering that last night, I knocked over a 15-foot-tall tower of pallets that crashed into an electrical fixture and knocked out the lighting in half the stockroom. Good times!
  Mon. 3/9/15 2:03pm Dean:

"Love is the Dust."
Mon. 3/9/15 2:07pm Gary at the Laundromat:

I am actually at the laundromat again, and tuning in ... I see I missed a whole stream drama! Howdy Jeffs
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:07pm Jeff Golick:

That's a tough act to follow, Doug, but we know you can do it!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:08pm Rich in Washington:

Hello, Jeff, Jeff, Destination: Outniks!
Been listening, too tied to comment til now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/9/15 2:08pm Uncle Michael:

Doug, it sounds like you're more management material.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:08pm Rich in Washington:

Fantastic show!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:13pm βrian:

I'm doing the delayed gratification thing, tantric withholding, if you will, until later in the marathon. I'm such a bad example!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:14pm Jeff J:

Thanks Rich! And hey Gary!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:15pm Jeff J:

Totally understand the withholding Brian, but the Relative Pitch 9-cd set is definitely worth releasing the flood gates on a $50 pledge.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:18pm Jeff J:

THANK YOU to Listener Kate in Brooklyn for her pledge!!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:20pm βrian:

I agree, but I am cursed. In any case, the GTDS stream shall know my beneficence.

And I shall work to rally my fellow cheese-heads.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:24pm Jeff J:

$20 pledge to get in the running for Philip Cohran LP, Sun Ra book, and Acid Mothers Temple cd. Support D:O and FMU -- your odds of winning are good!
  Mon. 3/9/15 2:25pm Peter:

oh no! Verizon!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:25pm Jeff J:

Damn it!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:26pm still b/p:

The pallet stacks of stream stability are tippy.
Avatar    Mon. 3/9/15 2:26pm holland oats:

by any chance did sun ra mention this set in his book?
  Mon. 3/9/15 2:27pm Dean:

Argh. Walked away to grab a bite. Missed Dickerson & Sun Ra.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:27pm Jeff J:

Verizon clearly hates adventurous jazz - pledge to help counteract these audio demons.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:29pm Jeff J:

Ra, in his wisdom, did in fact predict these Verizon woes. Though we thought he meant they would happen on Doug's show!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:29pm listener james from westwood:

One does not merely stream through Verizon. [boromir.jpg]
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:31pm Jeff J:

Ok, Jeff G is rebooting again.
In the meantime, I'll be announcing prize winners in the comments.

Postcards? Homing pigeons? Tin cans and string? Is there no backup system at the ready?
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:56pm Jeff J:

Dean - My tin cans don't seem to be working. The homing pigeons will be at the ready next week, without fail.
  Mon. 3/9/15 2:57pm Dean:

Try re-kicking the cans.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:58pm Jeff J:

Going to announce the WINNER of the GRAND PRIZE shortly - 9 cds from the Relative Pitch label. Still a few minutes left to pledge $50 to get in the running for that.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 2:59pm Jeff J:

Dean - the cans done got kicked this week.
Or: Some weeks you kick the can, other weeks the can kicks you.
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 3:02pm Jeff J:

Congratulations to Listener Jan from Ohio who *WINS* the Relative Pitch 9-CD set. Hope you enjoy all the great tunes on those discs!
Avatar Mon. 3/9/15 3:03pm Jeff J:

Next week's show starts with The Fugs "Out Demons! Out!" to make sure Verizon doesn't mess with our mojo. Apologies again for all the technical woes. See you all next Monday.
