Hi Rich in Washington! Thanks for joining us.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 12:28pm the Canterbury wood-elf:

Have you got the Dead Famous People EP "Arriving Late In Torn And Filthy Jeans"? The first track, "The Girl With An Attitude Problem" is a Kiwi classic!
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 12:30pm Jeff J:

Hi Canterbury - We've got some Dead Famous People coming, though not that track. So many Kiwi classics!

Jeez, @glenn. Plenty of stupid shit to go around, always.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 12:53pm Doug Schulkind:

Wow, that so, um, American...
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 12:56pm Jeff J:

@glenn - That's mindbogglingly idiotic.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:01pm glenn:

because you know we canadians are superhuman and can grow back our limbs.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:04pm Jeff J:

One of my favorite Canadian traits!

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/2/15 1:05pm Uncle Michael:

I missed the open. Is there an occasion at the root of the Kiwi celebration?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/2/15 1:06pm Uncle Michael:

Wait. glenn, you don't have a tail? Ew.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:06pm Jeff J:

Hey Uncle Michael! The occasion is simply a long-standing love of Kiwi music. Something we've been meaning to showcase here for a while.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:06pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, Uncle Michael! How're you feeling?
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:07pm glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/2/15 1:07pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:11pm glenn:

Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:14pm Jeff Golick:

Glad to hear it, @UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/2/15 1:16pm Uncle Michael:

I just directed a Kiwi friend, listener, musician, DJ to today's show.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:17pm Jeff Golick:

Glad to hear that, too! Thanks, man.

@glenn: Bibi's been off his meds for a while now.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:20pm listener james from westwood:

Righteous thus far and glad to hear a NZ-based show. Where else short of hopping a plane down under would I get this?
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:21pm Jeff J:

Thanks Listener James! This was a fun show to put together. Took a while since we got mired in "research."
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:24pm listener james from westwood:

Committing to a 2- or 3-hour selection of music from even a subset of the world's offerings is a skill I could not master. I'd be locked up for hours trying to commit to the tracks. A 90-min mixtape was about all I could master.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/2/15 1:29pm Uncle Michael:

Gents, I have to attend to some things an will enjoy hearing the 2nd half from the archive. This is really cool.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:30pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks and take care, UM!
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:32pm Doug Schulkind:

Obviously, you are doing this show in honor of tomorrow being the 18th anniversary of the opening of Auckland's Sky Tower, the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere: tttours.co.nz...
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:33pm Jeff Golick:

Well, duh.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:37pm listener james from westwood:

That seems a hell of a thing to put in a tectonically active country.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:44pm listener james from westwood:

This Cakekitchen cut has a nice sort of Stephin Merritt feel to it.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:45pm Jeff Golick:

Spot on, @ljfw.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:45pm Jeff J:

I wouldn't be surprised if Merritt was influenced by Graeme Jefferies. Many vocal similarities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 1:51pm northguineahills:

Got here for the last 20 minutes, and damn, the playlist looks amazig.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 1:52pm Jeff J:

...Hi! Jeffs and Jeffs'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:01pm northguineahills:

My college radio station was sold to what is now Clear Channel my senior year of HS, so, I never had college radio (and that station was pretty good the few times I drove nearby in HS). So, I had some friends that did pirate radio (but they kept on getting shut down by the FCC about once a year.)
  Mon. 3/2/15 2:03pm ?:

I never had a collage radio experience during collage, only after volunteering for xdu here in durham.
  Mon. 3/2/15 2:03pm Dean:

Can't call it Kiwi without Kiri te Kanawa.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:05pm βrian:

My college radio is still going strong and has the best radio IDs, I think. WCBN.
  Mon. 3/2/15 2:05pm Paul S:

Great sounds great folks! Maybe nice to know that Markus Acher, from the lovely The Notwist, is the drummer on that Cakekitchen-song.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:05pm Jeff J:

Hey Coelacanth! Thanks for joining us.

And hi there ? Shout out to WXDU! Many fine memories of that station, sitting in on friends' shows.

Hey Brian and Paul S!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:06pm northguineahills:

Any Roy Montgomery projects?
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:06pm Jeff Golick:

...and the connex continue1
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:07pm Jeff J:

I knew we were missing a few things, Northguineahills. Arrgh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:13pm coelacanth:

i still don't know if the college right down the street from where i grew up had a station or not. if it did it probably sucked.
fortunately i discovered wfmu, kcr and rsu when i was pretty young.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:16pm Jeff Golick:

My (commercial) college station changed from classic rawk (Bruce etc.) to alt/college rock while I was there. I did the 3-6am shift, "jazz after hours."
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:18pm Jeff Golick:

(Not a lot of commercials.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:19pm coelacanth:

is that new england?
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:20pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:23pm coelacanth:

i feel lucky i could receive from upsala, rutgers, setan (sp?) hall, columbia, and all the nyc stations.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:27pm listener james from westwood:

WZBC out of Boston College on this side. Still in touch w/ one of the DJs. Watched him eagerly taping George Bush drivel around the Gulf War one night in his dorm room so he could make an audio collage for his show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:28pm coelacanth:

i knew a guy in the 80s said he was a dj at a boston club,"the underground" -? he gave me 3-4 tapes that turned me on to several things i listen to to this day.
...i'm guessing you're not in boston, but maybe you know if that club's still there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:30pm coelacanth:

i should've said -mix tapes he played in the club.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:31pm Jeff Golick:

Sorry, @coelacanth, no idea if that's still there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:31pm coelacanth:

l james f w -your friend sounds like me!
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:35pm Jeff J:

@Northguineahills - Forgot we did the Pin Group, getting some Montgomery that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:39pm northguineahills:

Does anyone know if Chris Knox has made any recovery from his condition (it was a stroke, right?)
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:44pm Jeff J:

I'd heard he was doing better a while back. But I'm not sure whether it's a full recovery. Hopefully so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:47pm coelacanth:

Jeff G, i know it's not likely.

...yeah, i heard he was definitely improving.
Avatar Mon. 3/2/15 2:49pm Jeff Golick:

Merge put out that benefit CD for Knox: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/2/15 2:57pm northguineahills:
