Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

@kat330 - I almost always enjoy listening to world music or soul when doing my taxes, but I think that has to do with the fact that its usually on the weekends during Transpacific Sound Paradise and Gaylord Fields

from Wikipedia
In 1974, Barbra Streisand released a version of the song on her album ButterFly. In a 1976 Playboy interview, Bowie was asked what he thought of her cover: "Bloody awful. Sorry, Barb, but it was atrocious."

Avatar Fri. 2/13/15 2:30pm V Priceless:

pretty safe to conclude Bowie was "thin white-lined" out of his mind in '76. That's still pretty funny though.
Avatar    Fri. 2/13/15 2:30pm Erella:

I live in Toronto.
The first time I went to the Sony Centre was to hear Hunky Dory live. I was a teenager and was horrified at all the other people (not like me at all) there enjoying Bowie live.
Many years later, in 1995, I was at the King Edward hotel with my young toddler doing a frankenstein walk, (as they do) at the Sunday brunch with some former work colleagues. (Incidentally this is the hotel where John and Yoko did the bed in). My 2 year old daughter walked face-first into Bowie's groin!! He picked her up, told me she was adorable. He laughed. He was a guest at that hotel.
This weekend, I won tickets to go to that hotel and that brunch again with my child. Bowie has been on the mind all day.

That's a great story, Erella.

I had to tune in late but I'm glad I didn't miss this old stuff. I love it.
Avatar    Fri. 2/13/15 2:33pm Erella:

It is funny.
My daughter is 21 now and lives on her own and loves Bowie and gets red in the face at the mention of the story. She and her honey are getting the hotel room that i won. It is funny how when you think of Bowie, he keeps on coming up.

Welcome Lizzie, I'm in reverie land.
Loving the shuffling off to Buffalo now.

Hi Elizabeth! It's even older stuff than Rex features!

Barbara's best LP is the one from her TV special "Barbara and Other Musical Instruments" which includes a track where she sings along with appliances

Included is the story of the cover.

I have a piano roll of "Doin' the Raccoon". It goes well with my roll of "Do The New York"!

Hey, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/13/15 2:48pm Uncle Michael:

Plaine is too plain. I promoted it.

Later, tate. Thanks.

It makes me think of plains of ganja overlooking turquoise waters, instead of apartment buildings nestled amongst the asphalt. Actually they have a kickass arboretum.
Avatar Fri. 2/13/15 2:51pm ndbob:

This is a good candidate for the best Motown song

Speaking of Motown, have you checked out Carol Kaye's facebook page? That is def worth following IMO.

I was just downstairs at the deli, and "Texas Toast" is printed on the end of a bag of bread. Whenever I hear the phrase: "Texas Toast" I think it is a euphemism for something like, I don't know, cow chips.

Avatar Fri. 2/13/15 2:58pm chromaphone:

why? does he take credit for stuff he didn't do? They sure are both amazing players.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/13/15 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

The Red-Headed Strangler will get you for that, Alex.
