Tangerine Dream early stuff Phaedra or earlier

Good Morning Jeff and everyone!

Guido from Cologne:

Is there an option for TD-requests actually?
"Circulation Of Events" from "Atem" (1973) is one of their finest moments.
Sinister soundscape with soundtrack-qualities, clocking with 5:49.

Good morning, Jeffrey, and hello, GfC. Introspective start to today's show, matching the pre-dawn, pre-storm vibe here. Uncanny:-P

Snow here!
In a way I like it.
Prospects for quiet weekend ...

Hey, C.J. How are you?

Love this show so far

Guido from Cologne:

This is still a mystery to me, what makes the Americans rave about "Alpha Centauri". Most people I know here -and who are into stuff like TD- consider this album as one of their worst.

OK, side effects of having paid the full retail price for that back in the 70ies (it didn't go for cheap) - to some it was a real gall, others judged a bit more mercyful "they had no real synthesizers and tried to sound cosmic but ended with home organ music".

Emile:

My personal favorite early TD is Rubycon, side 1, but both sides v. good.

@Guido nice quote! :)

Now with some JD Emmanuel we'll be in the perfect space
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42am
Guido from Cologne:

@Emile
I fully agree! Rubycon was their pinnacle!
I used to say: Atem, Phaedra and Rubycon is what you need in order to get the essence of TD.

Cooh John:

OK, SC. Better after I am done with work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46am
Guido from Cologne:

This cosmic prayer at the end is really embarrassing!

The Ossiach Lake performance is maybe a good way to understand the earlier experiments of TD: www.youtube.com...

@GfC: good to hear a reasoned perspective on TC, thanks!
@CJ: yeah, look on the bright side for sure.

First time I heard Tangerine Dream was probably on East German radio station DT64. As a kid I didn't like it. In the late 90ies I got stoned to that Quichote record (the East German AMIGA Records version). it sounded like in a greenhouse and interesting, but I still didn't liked it. I tried "Electric Meditation" later and finally gave up with them. Sorry Edgar. RIP!

Shindig Magazine in UK put Alpha Centauri as one of the
TOP COSMIC ALBUMS OF ALL TIME !

ooh, i know how this story ends from pentangle's version. didn't jacqui mcshee carry on with an iteration of pentangle? has anyone ever heard it?

...been listening & wasting time on faceborg...
- Wow! - 'After Dawn' a beautiful thing...
- TangerineDream makes me think of 'Hearts of Space' - which I wish would podcast w/out subscription, but it's understandable
...I think TD were such important pioneers for & influences on - all of electronic & space music, which has become a vast genre - & so long ago - that it's easy to forget how formative they were for all that, w/ so much of it now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20am
Guido from Cologne:

Whatever the best or worst TD records are ...
... Shrunken Planet still is one of the best shows WFMU and one of the things to make a Saturday complete.

Jeffrey Davison:

I don't really come here with a plan. That's one of the thrills of doing live radio, making it up on the fly and dovetailing in some listener requests if I can also! Thanks!

Mark:

I agree Guido. Love that you threw in a couple Tangerine Dream tracks. I'm one of those people that prefers their earlier, more experimental albums. Heard "Atem" yesterday for the first time, put it on my list of albums I have to have. And wow, does Siv Jakobsen have a beautiful voice! Another artist I wouldn't have discovered without your show, Jeffrey. And yes, the snow is very pretty.

Had a fine time this morning, J.D.. Thanks for a large serving of music I would not have otherwise heard. Oh, and this Newman is a sweet finish.
@GfC: I had a look at that link: www.youtube.com..My understanding of the early work of TD now has a useful place of reference. Mein Dank geht an Sie.
