Favoriting January 20, 2015: Trim Some Kim (Fowley)!
Tonight, join me to celebrate the life of the recently-departed Kim Fowley, record producer, songwriter, film maker, actor and provocateur. I'm joined once again by Miriam Linna of Kicksville 66, Norton Records and Kicks! Books, publisher of Kim's Lord Of Garbage and two other volumes of poetry and prose, The Trip and Planet Pain.

We'll read from Kim Fowley's poetry and prose, play some of his recordings and discuss his undeniable impact on the American psyche.

Like many of you, I first encountered Kim Fowley via The Runaways, one of my favorite rock bands of all time. Once I delved into Mr. Fowley's life and career I quickly realized how much his work permeated the culture. To my great fortune, I got the opportunity to interview him on Aerial View back in November, 2013 and to talk with him off the air as well. Kim could expound on many subjects, music was just one. His description of the making of Nut Rocker and Hollywood in the 70's will always remain with me.

I finally met the man in person (after running into the actor who played him onscreen in The Runaways movie - Michael Shannon - in the Louisville airport!) at one of the Norton Bell House events. He was leaning against a wall, attractive female companion at his side, casting his gimlet eye on all and sundry. We talked briefly and I again mentioned I'd be out in Hollywood in a few months (as I said on Aerial View and wanted to hang out with him. He graciously said "You should." I never got the chance.

I'm so glad America had him in its crazy mix as long as we did. He has now merged with the infinite, meaning we'll always have him:
