FWIW, I went to a screening of the Ramones doc “End of the Century” and the folks who made the film showed show outtakes of Kim Fowley basically going on an anti-Semitic tirade about some of “those industry Jews” he had to talk to. Pretty hilariously wince-worthy.
Avatar 4:36pm
Scott C.:

At our first meeting (in Las Vegas), long before he had ever inked a deal with Kicks Books, I joked to Kim that if I ever won the lottery I would publish his memoirs. He had no facial reaction but reached into his pocket and handed me his (dayglo green) business card. I guess in his world, my offer must have sounded somehow possible.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
pacific standard simon:

You give me waterbugs?
Avatar 4:54pm
Jeezy:

Who did the hit version of "Security?"
Avatar 4:55pm
Scott C.:

@Gaylord: It was before. After the Fowley/Saxon dust-up Kim was reportedly in a more foul than normal mood, but I had always heard that Sky was hiding from the cops, not from KF! The funniest part of that whole weird episode was piecing together the events in the casino bar afterwards. Every few minutes, someone would turn up and unwittingly provide another part of the puzzle.
Avatar 4:56pm
Todd-o-phonic Todd:

There was no "hit" per se, but you are probably thinking of Otis Redding (who also wrote it) or perhaps Etta James. Regarding "Security".

that was classic, Sky hiding on stage with the A Bones! I think it was hotel security, who i guess threatened to call the cops, or maybe they did.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:01pm
Gaylord Fields:

The way I understood it, KF sicced security on Sky. I was in the merch area when the two of them were beefing at each other and made myself scarce. Evidently it escalated with Sky sucker punching Kim.
Avatar 5:03pm
Joe B:

The best part was after the first song with Sky ad-libs, Billy says, Ladies and gentlemen Sky Saxon!" expecting him to run off stage and he just stood there waiting for the next song to start and stayed up there!
Avatar 5:04pm
Scott C.:

Yep, that's my understanding Gaylord. I think Billy Miller says Sky told him onstage something like "When the video comes out, we'll split the profits." !!!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:07pm

Thanks to his quick thinking on his feet, I can truthfully claim I shared a backing band with Sky Saxon in Las Vegas!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
Gaylord Fields:

Ah, good times!
Avatar 5:11pm
Scott C.:

That wasn't the end of the offbeat shenanigans onstage during that A-Bones set, what with drummer Miriam loudly cursing the inept sound guy (!) and when the two guys from Downliner's Sect were invited onstage for a number, they went onstage carrying large beer steins and just stood around drinking while the band played! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm
pacific standard simon:

So, Todd, what do you think of the Giants' new left fielder?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:14pm

@Scott C: And maybe that's why that was the last Las Vegas Rockaround. Clearly nowhere to go but down after hitting those peaks.
  5:14pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
pacific standard simon:

He didn't show much in the World Series. Hopin' for the best.
Avatar 5:18pm
Scott C.:

@Gaylord: True, but I'm sure you know the real reason why they never had another one...the Gold Coast was filled to capacity with "our crowd" of music fans, and management told the promoters that although we all drank plenty, we didn't spend/lose enough $$$ at the tables to get asked back! Never again!
  5:19pm

But route 22 still has a White Castle. And let's not forget Hy-Way Bowl, which looks like it hasn't been upgraded since 1973.
