Don Cherry on the Drummer stream and work in the inbox; not a bad hello to a new week of GTDR programming! How do, Jeffs and all!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 11:52am Jeff Golick:

Doing ok, listener james! Welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 11:52am Artie Haywire:

Let the Jeffgavaganza begin!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 11:54am Doug Schulkind:

And the Frank Wright track preceding this Don Cherry was pretty special, too. All by accident of course. The Stream has a mind of its own (which, under hypnosis, does what I command it to do)!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 11:57am listener james from westwood:

The stream is like Skynet, learning at an accelerating rate. Wait until it takes over various terrestrial radio stations and/or smartphones.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 11:59am Jeff Golick:

Artie! Doug!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:00pm Jeff J:

Hey all! The Jeffganza is just revving up. Trying to wrest control away from the mindful Stream.
Avatar    Mon. 12/8/14 12:01pm duke:

The stream takes control!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Chili con gliptious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 12:10pm Artie Haywire:

F'in Hell, it's not Fred Titmus, but is the Sleaford Mods!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

I welcome all references to Gary Oldman's Dracula.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:10pm Jeff J:

And Keanu Reeves' bad acting!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

I love the disdain for GG Allin.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Or for those that dig him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 12:11pm Artie Haywire:

Hat tip to the Triffids (invading race, not band)
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:11pm listener james from westwood:

Presumably his shit wasn't liveable enough.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:12pm listener james from westwood:

I categorize FFC's "Bram Stoker's Dracula" in the same slot as David Lynch's "Dune": a glorious, baroque mess.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:14pm Jeff J:

Totally agree about Dracula and Dune, Listener James. Gary Oldman is something in that movie, partly channeling Count Chocula.
  Mon. 12/8/14 12:15pm Dean:

Indeed, anarchy often leads to repetition.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:15pm Rich in Washington:

Jeebus, what an opening set!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:15pm Jeff J:

The three R's: repetition, repetition, repetition!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:16pm Jeff J:

Thanks Rich in Washington!
  Mon. 12/8/14 12:16pm Dean:

Say it again!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:17pm Gary:

Hey Dean and Gary! Thank you thank you for joining us.
  Mon. 12/8/14 12:19pm Dean:

You're welcome welcome welcome. I love Repetition. Ditto. What I said. Again. Twice.

Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:24pm listener james from westwood:

Pls tell me there are other fans of the film (and the soundtrack of) "Ghost Dog" on this here board.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:24pm Gary:

I saw it long ago, James -- I don't remember it very well, tho!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:26pm Jeff Golick:

Lurve "Ghost Dog," listener james.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:27pm Jeff J:

Oh yeah - great soundtrack, James. We almost slotted something from that in this set, in fact. But we were missing the great gurgling of ODB.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:29pm listener james from westwood:

Excellent! I get in moods where nothing else will do but a good revisit of the film. I mentioned it in my old regular poker game during a discussion of WTC and caught flak from another player who considered it boring. I check-raised that fool the rest of the night.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:31pm Gary:

Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:31pm listener james from westwood:

Oh, man, Grace Jones, good call. My mom adored her. Might have had to do w. her role in "Conan the Destroyer" as much as her music.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:33pm Jeff Golick:

Sly n Robbie here...

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 12/8/14 12:40pm Brian in UK:

Jefferlicious, played this Gracie only the other day, great bass 'n drums on 'Walking in the Rain'.
Fred Titmuss, one of the great post war off-spinners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 12:41pm Artie Haywire:

Ghost Dog, protector of bears. That alone would be enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 12/8/14 12:43pm Brian in UK:

@james everytime I see Conan written, all I can see is Conan the Librarian. A lovely man just do not mess with dewey.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:49pm Rich in Washington:

Cab Volt!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 12:54pm listener james from westwood:

"Conan, what is best in life?"
"Crush your unstacked books, see late borrowers driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the fine payers!"

The movie Crash in 3 min.

Here's that Sleaford Mods live on WFMU link: wfmu.org...
They were on Infinite Distortion last Wednesday.

@B.U.K: Tomorrow, you'll be none the wiser, right? Ice cream on the menu?
  Mon. 12/8/14 1:05pm SeanG:

Ghost Dog rules!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 12/8/14 1:12pm Polyus:

Spoiler:Sleaford Mods live sound is almost identical to their recorded sound. Good interview though.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 1:13pm Jeff Golick:

Ah. Thanks, @Polyus! We wouldn't want it any other way.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 1:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Came close to having Modirzadeh live on my show many years ago. Then, a small misunderstanding led to a weirdness that resulted in no performance. His sister is a wonderful person and long-time listener.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 12/8/14 1:14pm Brian in UK:

@βrian well remembered. Very sensitive to cold but hot is fine. My wife makes some delicious Christmas Pudding ice cream.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 1:17pm Jeff Golick:

This stuff completely defies whatever genre tag one might want to hang on it.
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 1:17pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug, whatdya do, insult his sister?
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 1:21pm Doug Schulkind:

No way. She (and her fine husband) have been huge friends to WFMU and GTDS over many years. (Of course, I would have not insulted her even if they weren't.)
  Mon. 12/8/14 1:28pm Dean:

Bley and Motian redux

One of the things I like about pie is the yummy goodness.

Tony Coulter's Tape Hiss this week presents "A tape from Theoreme, a split release from Human Flesh and Las Animas, the Mexican music comp "Menú," and the instructional tape "Introduction to Elk Talk."
  Mon. 12/8/14 1:47pm Dean:

Long story short: Back in '05 I knew a fellow at the humanities center at Berkeley, an ABD music and philosophy student, Brian Kane. Brian was interested in spectral music and, subsequently, acousmatics. He's now a prof at Yale, and his book has just been published: http://www.amazon.com/Sound-Unseen-Acousmatic-Theory-Practice/dp/0199347840 After Berkeley, he held a fellowship at Columbia, where Lehman, also a fan of spectral composition, was at the time.

Pecan pie is my favorite. (In case anyone was feeling all mail-order gifty or anything.)
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 2:00pm Jeff Golick:

I'm not stepping on this solo to end on time, btw.
Avatar    Mon. 12/8/14 2:03pm duke:

whoo this is pretty great
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 2:04pm listener james from westwood:

Smashing show, Jeff and Jeff! Thanks for letting that last one play to its fine end!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 12/8/14 2:04pm northguineahills:

Thanks Jeffs, that was rad!
Avatar Mon. 12/8/14 2:06pm Rich in Washington:
