Nixon was smarter than Dubya but suborned his intelligence to evil and insecurity in proportion to the true size of the man: tiny and paranoid. Bush is stupid but just smart enough to let even more evil men and women run things. He was a gateway for worse demons.

Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:27pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/10/14 3:27pm Steinski:

As I said, a bit hard to listen to...
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:27pm Rich in Washington:

I like that piece Crashing Aeroplanes by F.M. Einheit and Andreas Ammer that's composed of black box and tower transmissions. It's really spooky.
Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/10/14 3:28pm Steinski:

Yeah. It's like watching snuff films.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:28pm listener james from westwood:

Steinski, not as hard as hearing the call from the stewardess on one of the 9/11 planes. One of the handful of times I turned FMU off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/10/14 3:29pm Parq:

My dad was a small craft pilot who never got IFR rated. We flew into a heavy cloud bank once when my sis and I were kids, which we thought was great fun. It wasn't until years later than I found out that we had very, very nearly died.
Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/10/14 3:29pm Steinski:

This show ends with that, james....
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:29pm Rich in Washington:

Along those lines, Lustmord did one centered around car crashes. I think Crash Injury Trauma? Something like that. Really disturbing.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

In the end, I'd settled on the Alaska Air crash [flight 261] as the centerpiece because there was such a dynamic path to it. Wild energy.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:29pm Doug Schulkind:

This is more like a snuuuuuuu film. Not sure if or when the ff is coming.

I went through a crash landing over Belfast. They didn't know if the landing gear had locked. We circled around made dips toward the the airport's tower until we ran out of fuel. The scariest safe landing I've ever been in.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:33pm listener james from westwood:

This is completely riveting. Good find!
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:33pm listener james from westwood:

The obvious and skulking military presence in the city (it was the late 80s) and violence-hardened children were far scarier to me, somehow.

@Steinski: That was spellbinding!
Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/10/14 3:43pm Steinski:

Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:43pm Rich in Washington:

Whoa. that's amazing, Doug!
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:45pm listener james from westwood:

Rich, I think you're right; this one sounds to have been speed-corrected or a lot more like a normal (if distraught) human.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:45pm βrian:

It was a complete fluke that he survived. Several circumstances combined to give him a narrow escape route.

Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:46pm listener james from westwood:

Found out just before 2nd period history class, Bergen Catholic High School, Oradell NJ, told by my physics teacher in the hall, who said, upon being asked what's up, "The shuttle blew up." The class didn't quite ever start once we all found our seats.
Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/10/14 3:46pm Steinski:

Richard Feynman's account of the Challenger investigation is fascinating. He's the scientist that revealed the o-ring problem.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:47pm listener james from westwood:

^^ It absolutely is. We could seriously use more Richard Feynmans.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:48pm βrian:

I recall seeing the images on the TV in a bar I was passing in Winooski, VT. I didn't know what I was seeing but knew something was very wrong.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:48pm Rich in Washington:

I was getting ready for school when my mom told me and I assumed it happened during landing. It seemed shuttle missions were so routine that I couldn't remember if one was going up or already up and coming down. But we watched it at school. Pretty sad.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 3:49pm Doug Schulkind:

Feynman was also an amateur throat-singer. As in Tuvan throat singing. I've heard tapes of him attempting it and chanting "orange juice, orange juice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/10/14 3:49pm Uncle Michael:

It was a pleasure to open for you, Steinski.

We were playing on the boardwalk by the river, and it was clear, except for a Sideshow Bob hair cloud in the south. We went to McDonalds, as elementary field trips were want to do back in the 80s, and my Mom came and told me and my friends what had happened.

I just found this creepy LP called Y that's all about the RFK assassination. I guess it was supposed to come out on Zappa's Bizarre label but he ultimately passed on it. Lots of audio related to the whole assassination saga, including this audio.

@ Rich - Rosey got the gun away from him.
  Fri. 10/10/14 4:02pm P-90:

"he was a little dog called Snuggles" was my ringtone for many, many years.

Peak of Casey's career was his role in Glory Stompers. Also an outstanding film for every reason possible.

The autopsy and witness descriptions are unambiguous, the entry wound was just behind his ear, the shot was from behind. Sirhan was standing in front of him, facing him when waving the gun.

The questions over RFK likely will never be settled, because it feels like such a fucking robbery to have lost him and the change he might have brought.
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 4:12pm Gary:

Oh, man; this is awful ... will likely follow Lewis. Thanks for the show, Steinski
Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/10/14 4:12pm Steinski:

Steinski - good to play it, and I know I can't listen to it because I have it on something of yours. Not too worry. Playing it is good even if hard (or impossible) to listen to! Thanks
Avatar Fri. 10/10/14 4:16pm conkrete_dawg:
