My daughter's youth symphony will be playing Carnegie Hall next June!
  Mon. 9/22/14 12:06pm Dean:

See Phil Gelb reference above. I've heard David Murray, Mark Dresser, Oliver Lake, and Joelle Leandre in Phil's living room. (Not together, four shows.)
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:07pm Jeff Golick:

Heya, @Fuzzy! Welcome.

Thanks for the audio tip, @UM.
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:07pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: that's sweet! You're coming, too? Maybe they can ask Evan P. to sit in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/22/14 12:09pm Todd76Pct:

Saw Evan with Joe Morris and Stephen Haynes at Real Art Ways in Hartford on Saturday night in a nice space with a good-sized attentive audience. Two sets of full-on excellence. Heartwarming!
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Hells yeah, I'm coming. The group will also be doing a performance in Central Park. Whirlwind trip to beloved Gotham.
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:11pm listener james from westwood:

Doug, do they know how to get to Carnegie Hall?
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Hello, @Todd76Pct! Saw some photos of that gig on, I think, Haynes' FB page. Sounds lovely.

If I may appropriate Allen Iverson: "We're in here talking 'bout... practice."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 9/22/14 12:35pm Carmichael:

Practice.
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:38pm listener james from westwood:

I liked how the long-departed SPY magazine actually went onto the streets of NYC to see how many folks answered w/ the usual gag or actually gave directions.
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:44pm Jeff Golick:

My idea of humor: I was once across the street from Carnegie Hall with some friends from out of town. I asked them if they knew how to get there, and before they could answer, quickly added: "It's right across the street!"
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:44pm Jeff Golick:

(I don't get invited to many parties, no. Why do you ask?)
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 12:55pm Jeff Golick:

Decent band on this new Wadada release: Jack DeJohnette & John Lindberg, rhythm. Threadgill and Wadada, horns.

Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 1:11pm Jeff Golick:

@pss: does the junkyard dog get any credit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 9/22/14 1:16pm pacific standard simon:

Nope! Funny you should mention it, though -- my dog has been yapping unceasingly at the refrigerator guys.

thanx again
@dean

@? & johnk77
Do keep an eye on Phil's calendar. He hosts terrific shows, and his cooking is *well worth* the price. It's BYOB, and inevitably attendees share splashes of wine w/ each other. Nothing cooler than asking David Murray if he'd like to try the Burgundy.
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 1:29pm Jeff J:

Yes, it's the Bosendorfer with the extra bass keys
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 1:39pm listener james from westwood:

JLA is one of four musicians featured in a movie by a buddy of mine. See the trailer to Steve Elkins' "Reach of Resonance." http://vimeo.com/ondemand/resonance
Avatar Mon. 9/22/14 1:41pm Jeff Golick:

Cool; thanks, Dean! Will check that post-show. Is it on DVD, or out now on big screens?
  Mon. 9/22/14 1:43pm Dean:

He toured it around the world during the year or two after its release, winning awards and acclaim. I don't think it screens anywhere now, but you can rent or buy. The story of the making of the movie is itself a topic for a documentary! The Miya Masaoka interview was conducted in my apartment at the time.

'A listener from the future' here. Great work as always, but I particularly enjoyed the set you played from the new bin. Your discussion and commentary even seemed livelier and more engaging. By all means keep digging through the history but know you d excellent work on the here and now!
