Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Miscue?
Avatar Fri. 9/12/14 12:31pm listener james from westwood:

PSS, are rotties specifically vulnerable to lymphoma? Two friends of mine recently got a cancer diagnosis for theirs. Not sure what type, but it was quite out of the blue and the breeder was horrified.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/12/14 12:32pm Mike East:

my daughter asked me for a kitten last night...I gave the standard parent response of "We'll see." That buys me some time.

Whoops; 5 years old = the rottweiler in question. Relatively young as I'm told.
Avatar Fri. 9/12/14 12:44pm Alex In Illinois:

I remember this tune form when I was a pre-teen! I also remember describing it to friends in college who claimed they never heard of it. And I am like the only words are "Dy-no-mite", and the piano goes,: "Doo-doo-doo-doot-doo-doo" ...
Avatar Fri. 9/12/14 12:45pm Alex In Illinois:

There is a part II??? I should have bought the single, when I was at the department store.
Avatar Fri. 9/12/14 12:46pm still b/p:

The Liberace track recalled that I caught Behind the Candelabra recently. Meh and less than meh. Was curious to see what the Stars did with the roles, but filmed stories of odd flawed people getting more antagonistic toward each other are a dime a tedious dozen, and I ain't inclined to give even a few minutes to the picture again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/12/14 12:51pm pacific standard simon:

Long after my own beloved cat departed this plane, I continued to find his toys under every piece of furniture and fixture. It didn't stop until I moved.

Oof, same thing in my house when my dog passed. My parents didn't part with his leash and collar forever.

Hell, it's been hard to just put things away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 9/12/14 12:55pm Mike East:

@still b/p - I thought the actors did well with the roles. Fun to see people dress up and transform themselves with makeup.

Avatar Fri. 9/12/14 1:06pm Alex In Illinois:

This sounds like a flatulent version of Green Onions
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/12/14 1:07pm Uncle Michael:

In a good way?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/12/14 1:08pm pacific standard simon:

Wreckless Eric's portrait of Costello in HIS book was amusing: a terribly insecure, compulsive over-achiever who would try to manufacture fake songwriting contests with label-mates.
Avatar Fri. 9/12/14 1:08pm Alex In Illinois:

Yes, in a good way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 9/12/14 1:09pm pacific standard simon:

Uh, to get back to the, uh, the warning that I've received you may take it with how many however many grains of salt you wish, that the green onions circulating around us are not specifically too good. Uh, it's suggested that you do stay away from that, course it's your own trip, so be my guest, but, uh, please be advised that there is a warning on that one ok?

I wish I'd been around to hear these (born 1969). I often wish I'd had the sort of environment where the 70s I hear on your program is the one I'd heard while coming up.
conkrete_dawg: Excellent point. DJ Betsy Nichols had a lovely show on FMU that was a solid hour of such cuts. Lots of AM gold and platinum on Hinky Dinky Time too!

@Brian in UK; I implored her to restart it when I saw her at a record fair once. By then I think she was living out of the area. She also sang the living hell out of a Hoof & Mouth tune in the past 4 years or so, can't recall which.

It's like those soundalike songs they record to sound as close to pop tunes as legally possible but are used as production music and such. I swear there's a snippet of one of those faux-tunes used on our local NPR station that's a soundalike of the opening of the Stranglers' "Always the Sun."

Would have been somethin' to get an in-person handle -- filed observations -- on Benny Goodman. I've heard the tales of his intense cold taskmaster demeanor. And just read in one of Irwin's books on graphic artist Jim Flora where Flora says, "He was an oddball. Not a very likable man...."
Avatar Fri. 9/12/14 1:50pm still b/p:

- "field" observations, which would then be "filed" I reckon.
