  Tue. 9/9/14 6:17pm Dean:

For some reason I flashed on Woody Allen's "Zelig." My mind's eye can see him there playing clarinet in that jpg, just to the drummer's left.
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:17pm Doug Schulkind:

I wrote a little something about Mr. Mekurya in my Favorites of 2003 piece:

Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:24pm Doug Schulkind:

I think maybe you just had a mini-stroke, Dean.
  Tue. 9/9/14 6:25pm Dean:

It's possible. My hearing is intermittent lately, but weirdly only when I'm listening to WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/9/14 6:27pm Stanley:

Doug - is this Ali Birra chap from Sudan?
I kinda recognise the style
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:28pm Doug Schulkind:

Maybe your ears are wearing their WFMU mittens, Dean.

No, Stanley. All Ethiopian tonight.
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:31pm Doug Schulkind:

My new saying:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/9/14 6:31pm Stanley:

Ah, I see.
The music floats down the Blue Nile.

No paddle necessary.
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:35pm Doug Schulkind:

Jèssè Kamínsky is up next — in 25 minutes — with Kaminsky Kamoutsky. His playlist page is hèrè:
  Tue. 9/9/14 6:37pm Dean:

Apropos not of today's show, but of other GTDS programs, this: Discuss.

(There went that intermittent hearing problem again. The stream, as distinct from the Nile, is cutting out.)
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:39pm Doug Schulkind:

Anyone else having stream problems? It has been spottier than usual this week. I believe it is a WFMU connectivity issue. My connection in to the stream has been solid.

Dean, I thought that Washington Post piece was merely a massive bit of trolling. I didn't go for the bait.
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:40pm ndbob:

not today Doug
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/9/14 6:41pm davex:

Stream working well in Saxony.
  Tue. 9/9/14 6:44pm Dean:

Must depart, alas. I plan soon to print out a few years' of DS's favorites and head to the vinyl shop. (I always pass up that Roswell Rudd, for the very reason DS states.) Beautiful afternoon (where I sit) sounds today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/9/14 6:44pm Carmichael:

OK, Doug finally got a chance to dial in. Sounds Africa-y!
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:46pm Gary:

No streaming problems here
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:46pm Doug Schulkind:

If you ever do encounter stream problems, the first thing to do is curse like a sailor at high volume. If that doesn't help, maybe try stopping-and-starting your device while cursing like a sailor at high volume.

Cheers to you, Dean!

You are correct-y, Carmichael!
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:47pm listener james from westwood:

First political poll of the season, from Cory Booker's campaign. Plan to vote for him, although he's confirmed my fear that by entering the Senate, we in NJ would hear less from and about him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/9/14 6:47pm Holly in NC:

Hi Doug & all other friends!

Not listening as can't at the moment but thinking of y'all, will catch up later tonight.

BTW, Ethiopiques series changed my (listening) life.
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:49pm Gary:

Again, Jesus! BHO!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 9/9/14 6:50pm Carmichael:

Gary, are you connected to AmericaOffLine? Sorry to hear you're not hearing.
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:51pm Gary:

Carmichael, that was not in reference to sound going out. it was in reference to awesome sounds going in (my ears)
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:52pm Gary:

BHO = Blow Head Off
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:52pm Doug Schulkind:

Hèllo Holly in NC!

(I hope you're all not tired of me putting grave accents on all my eeeees, cause I'm not going to stop! Èvèr.)
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 6:53pm Doug Schulkind:

I've got a track by BHO here somewhere, Gary. Gimme a minute. I mean, a minutè.

So, so great -- thank you, Doug!
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 7:02pm Jeff Golick:

Actually, scratch that, was in response to different jazz trolling:
Avatar Tue. 9/9/14 7:02pm Sonny Rollins:

So much jazz trolling lately.
