@Carl: Sorry!

i was just contact mic-ing my fridge the other day. a surprising variety of sounds to be had.
  9:34pm
Carmichael:

Watched a doc on Richard Feynman. They were listening to a leaf blower and comparing it to Tuvan throat singing.
Avatar 9:38pm
Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: The Tuvan throat-singing jokes never stop.
  9:38pm
?:

dave are you in the mood to play some disco tonight?
Avatar 9:41pm
Dave Mandl:

@?: You never know. It's all spur-of-the-moment usually.
Avatar 9:41pm

Someone needs to release a collection of William Basinski's disco years.
Avatar 9:42pm
amEdeo:

Highly underrated disco tunes.
Avatar 9:42pm
Dave Mandl:

@amEdeo: That stuff has been totally suppressed.
Avatar 9:43pm

i heard most of the loops were swishy hi hats before they disintegrated
Avatar 9:46pm
amEdeo:

Totally. It's like he's ashamed of it. Stop disintegrating the truth!!

@steve: Swishy hit-hats and some groovy bass lines. A few hand claps now and then.
  9:48pm
Carmichael:

It was actually intriguing, Dave. Though a bit tongue in cheek.

ohh dave, have you caught efd's dance party archive from two weeks ago yet? if so, what did you think?

P-90:

Oh, "Shiva's Breath", not "Chivas Breath"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm
BDR:

I work at a university library and supervise undergraduates. A couple of weeks ago I was talking with a friend and talking about Side Two of Kate Bush's *Hounds of Love*, two ugrads said, "Album sides?" I'm old.
Avatar 9:53pm
Dave Mandl:

@P-90: Haha.
  9:53pm
rw:

That's not totally true... Often LPs have works that continue on multiple sides. But yes. Sometimes keeping things shorter makes for a more concise end result.
Avatar 9:55pm
Dave Mandl:

@rw: Well, you can only play one side at a time.
  9:55pm
rw:

My friend Dave Camp had a similar story about LP's... His friend's teen-aged daughter saw him flipping a record and she said, "You can play both sides of those things? That's cool."
Avatar 9:56pm

Avatar 9:59pm

@?: I have! But only about two hours.
  10:00pm
Carmichael:

Monty Python's Matching Tie and Handkerchief had 3 sides on 1 LP.
Avatar 10:02pm
Dave Mandl:

@BDR: That's surprising. Even if they don't listen to vinyl, I'd think they'd at least heard of it. But no.
  10:03pm
?:

dave, I got to tell you evan outdoes himself every year with his dance parties, don't you agree?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
common:

my band recently spoke to an engineer that i have recorded with before about putting out vinyl. he told me i was crazy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
BDR:

It's a lost art. I remember when people would put down the bong and argue which side to listen to depending on mood. Seems to me musicians lost half their palette.
Avatar 10:04pm

...& rotary phones - some have *no idea*...I wonder how alien phone booths might seem...

Hadn't heard Code BMUS. Unique, not 'generic' punk which was a put-down back then. '81 was a year, eh? Is it possibly Crass influenced?

Oh, Code BMUS recorded at This Heat's Cold Storage studio.

That Eno record from a few minutes ago.. Is this a new maybe semi official release? It's been available as a bootleg for a while. I bought one a year or so ago but gave it as a wedding gift. Would like to replace it if possible... What's the label?
  11:13pm
rw:

Oh, and that Owen Maercks track was pretty great too. I might have to track that one down...
  11:14pm
P-90:

rw: uber-cool wedding gift!
Avatar 11:17pm
Dave Mandl:

@rw: I think the Eno LP is that same record, re-released (or re-pressed) yet again.
  11:17pm
rw:

P-90. Yeah, Thanks. The bride walked down the aisle to "I'll come Running" so I thought it was appropriate. There's an alternate version with different lyrics on that lp.
  11:37pm

@BDR, some co-workers consider me old fashioned because I download MP3s directly to my iPhone & don’t have Spotify. I might as well have an AM radio to them.

Wow. It's almost the end! Brilliant (and maybe a little overwhelming) as always Mr. Mandl! Thank you!

I saw a young woman spinning wool outdoors in the sun, today, as I walked by. This sounds like what the wheel was doing, though she herself was pretty relaxed looking.

Just a neighbourhood in Toronto with a lot of assorted weekend street activity. Bar patio on one side. Mix of closed and open shops on the other.

Hey! Thanks for playing Violent Squid, I really loved listening to this show. I looked up Alien Whale, I guessed that comment was addressed to VSquid based on the timeline. I looked them up and they are on Northern Spy Records I saw, funny thing I sent them a record totally got it back unopened from Hentz out there haha. They win.
