I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

been great so far !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 12:44pm DCE:

haven't had much time to get to know it yet, but I will say, you can't just plug it in and expect it to make nice sounds. Gotta really meld with it. I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 12:48pm common:

man, i want one of those, dce
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 12:49pm DCE:

that's the first step, common!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 12:50pm sphere:

i've always been tempted by the littleBits/KORG Synth Kit, where you build your own analog synth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 12:51pm common:

indeed.
Avatar    Fri. 8/15/14 12:55pm Chris from DC:

Sphere, LittleBits is pretty cool. Interesting filtered through a Microbrute too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 12:57pm sphere:

@ Chris thanks! might give it a try sometime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 12:59pm steve:

if you want a fun toy to play with an have $150 bucks, the littleBits synth kit is a good price for an intro to generic synth noodling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:01pm Whosondephone:

you're tempting me right now sphere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:09pm DCE:

great sounds
Avatar Fri. 8/15/14 1:09pm Sem Chumbo:

going very deep down on this, sooooo good, B.
  Fri. 8/15/14 1:13pm P-90:

@sphere, steve, whosondephone, etc.: Moog now sells an excellent little built-it-yourself analog synth, the Werkstatt-01. It was originally the project designed for the synth building workshop given at the "Moogfest" convention, but its such a nifty, really usable starter analog synth that musicians wound up recording and performing with it, so they've marketed it through Moog dealerships. Worth checking out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 1:17pm adrian in mpls:

as much as i'm enjoying this, i would enjoy it even more if our internet at work would STOP INTERMITTENTLY CUTTING OUT
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:19pm Whosondephone:

It's nice to finally hear your show without my boss interrupting it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:24pm coelacanth:

fire your boss. he/she's just screwing things up.
  Fri. 8/15/14 1:24pm BriJet:

Hoiiiii
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:25pm common:

i'm taking notes, p-90
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:25pm coelacanth:

P-90 i'm watching, listening to the demo video for that moog, whilst listening to Bryce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 1:29pm stefica:

how nice and bell-y!
  Fri. 8/15/14 1:30pm P-90:

@coelacanth: It's way cool, isn't it? the Littlebits Synth kit costs about half as much, but the Werkstatt is like a real Moog synthesizer, and the perfect analog synth for teaching how they work and what they can do.
Avatar Fri. 8/15/14 1:31pm Bryce:

hiyiii
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:34pm Carmichael:

Uton. Sounds like udon. Now I'm hungry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 1:37pm steve:

theres a lot to like about the littleBits Korg, Werkstatt, Bleep Labs, etc. but i can't hang with spending hundreds of dollars on gear with exposed circuit boards, flimsy little jumper pin connectors, no standard way to interface with Midi and CV. this stuff will die if it leaves your studio and significantly more robust products that could last a lifetime are just a little bit more $$$. i used to be pcb design contractor for one of the aforementioned companies, ive spent a lot of time with this stuff. i'll take an Arturia, C&G Pocket Piano, Korg Volcas, a used Micromoog or other similar priced underappreciated 70s/80s synth, or even a little Meeblip over any of em.
  Fri. 8/15/14 1:45pm P-90:

@steve: OK, the Arturia is a sturdy, road-worthy piece (WITH a keyboard) at an unbeatable price, but is the Moog really that flimsy? It's been reviewed as solid enough to be usable in the studio and at gigs...?
  Fri. 8/15/14 1:48pm nic:

love this !!!
Avatar    Fri. 8/15/14 1:48pm Chris from DC:

Yeah, this really is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:49pm fred:

@steve: I don't play them myself, but I have a fondness for some of these 80s synths. I know someone who uses a Teisco from that era, and I really love some of its sounds
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:51pm common:

good to know, steve!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 1:53pm coelacanth:

hear a jake brake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 1:59pm steve:

yes. the jumper wire thing which is the patching system for the Werkstatt is just hook up wire headers made for prototyping. its gonna snap and get stuck in there. you can already see it bending in Moogs promo photos. you bend that enough, it snaps. inside your $300 synth.
  Fri. 8/15/14 2:00pm P-90:

Photography is permitted but DON'T leave the vehicle
  Fri. 8/15/14 2:02pm P-90:

@steve: Thanks for the professional perspective. It's still a cool kit to build at home and learn analog synths from the inside out, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 2:02pm steve:

sorry... no more synth ranting from me
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:03pm coelacanth:

ive never used a synthesiser or computer for my noise (unless you count a 1991 casio keyboard,or the digital effects of my recorder) but it looks fun. I'd like to use one to process outside, analogue sounds.
...i'd only get one if a decent used one comes my way ,cheap. ..or if i win a lottery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:07pm coelacanth:

yes you can prove it!..And you DO!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:07pm sphere:

thanks steve for the info. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:09pm DCE:

you do no-input mixer stuff, coelacanth? my friend was showing me some nice drones he was making. Just turn it on and let it run.
Avatar Fri. 8/15/14 2:13pm Bryce:

get a telharmonium!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:14pm DCE:

oooh, my Don Harper Cold Worlds 180gm vinyl just showed up! it's like Christmas around here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 2:15pm steve:

P-90 - yes, its a good intro. its just that those jumpers, they're so flimsy... its appalling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:17pm coelacanth:

DCE i'm sorry- i'm oblivious enough to not know what that means!..But i think it's more the opposite.
i use "field" recordings & "play" instruments, and things; and use the effects in my 8-track recorder.( & 3 pedals)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:21pm DCE:

well, it is what it sounds like, and you don't need anything other than a small mixer, some cables, and some effects pedals. Just use one of your Outs from the mixer, chain some effects, and then go back IN to a channel. Experiment!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:21pm Andrew Waterloo:

Do they give you those coloured crocodile clip jumpers? Those are appalling!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:26pm coelacanth:

That would be a blast,DCE! I know i've liked music that was made that way, too.
Bryce, funny you mention the telharmonium; it's on the top of my shopping list!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:33pm Carmichael:

Sounds like the Indians are attacking with mortars and automatic weaponry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:34pm coelacanth:

actually at the top of my list would be an old mellotron,a hurdy gurdy (which i would modify),and some giant chimes.

Okay i'm going to find (& eat) some udon!(now that i've eaten uton.)
Thank you Bryce. Thank you Brycelets for some education. Ciao.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:43pm doca:

@Bryce: what do you mom used to think of the music you heard when you were growing up? Assuming you already heard something like this
By the way, I could extend this question to every person on the comment board.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 2:46pm steve:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:48pm coelacanth:

crap. i can't leave. this is too good!..but i'm so hungry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:48pm common:

yes steve. yes i can!
Avatar Fri. 8/15/14 2:50pm Sem Chumbo:

@doca: my mother didn't get Prelude To The Afternoon Of A Sexually Aroused Gas Mask anymore than I did at the time, but I bought Weasels Ripped My Flesh, and she never would have. That's an answer, of a kind.
@Bryce: thanks for today's show, mucho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:50pm fred:

@doca; I was a latecomer to this music. My mom never got to hear anything weirder than Kate Bush from my room
  Fri. 8/15/14 2:52pm bill:

blow your harmonica, son
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:52pm DCE:

my folks got me started with Pink Floyd and the Moody Blues, but nothing weirder than that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:54pm doca:

Yeah, my folks had a lot of patience when I lived with them. Anyway, they had their share of weird stuff. I'm dreading the fact I wasn't 15 when I first listened to this show, though. It would have impressed them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:54pm doca:

@Bryce: many thanks! Your show is always amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:55pm DCE:

great music, great conversations today. this place is boss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 2:55pm adrian in mpls:

i was a bit lucky, my mom and dad used to play lots of king crimson, bowie, kraftwerk, the occasional amon duul 2 when i was growing up -- and, plenty of Floyd, Zep, Moody Blues, etc. "Elephant Talk" is my earliest musical memory, actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:55pm coelacanth:

when i got into "punk rock" my mom was not a happy camper. That never changed until after i moved out.
I think she'd like a lot of what i like now,though she'd hate much more of it....and i doubt she'd like what i create.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:56pm doca:

"they had their share of weird stuff" as in "I made they listen to things they probably wouldn't think is music"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:56pm DCE:

yeah come to think of it the folks did spin "Autobahn" and some Tomita records in the mid-70s quite a bit
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:57pm doca:

@adrian: your folks were pretty avant
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:57pm DCE:

mom & dad's analog synth fad of 1974...sigh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:57pm common:

man, you guys are lucky. my dad played a lot of great jazz, but my mom is born again and would listen to contemporary christian muck.
Avatar Fri. 8/15/14 2:57pm Bryce:

thanks, y'all!

nice to see you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/15/14 2:57pm DCE:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 8/15/14 2:58pm adrian in mpls:

@doca - they were pretty cool. they wouldn't let me go to shows by myself in Detroit as a teen, so they would take me to see Sonic Youth, Fugazi (!!!), etc.
