Avatar    Mon. 8/11/14 12:11pm Carmichael:

Hiya Jeffs. Here to hear.
Avatar Mon. 8/11/14 12:11pm Gary:

Does anyone here have Cope's book, btw?
Avatar Mon. 8/11/14 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Come in, come in, Carmichael. Glad you brought your ears.
  Mon. 8/11/14 12:11pm Jeff J:

I have a PDF of Cope's book, Gary. He refuses to let it be reprinted, alas.
Avatar Mon. 8/11/14 12:13pm Gary:

A PDF, eh? Hmm, how does a guy go about scoring one of those? And, also, I had no idea he doesn't want it reprinted. Do you know the story?
Avatar Mon. 8/11/14 12:15pm Gary:

I have JAPROCKSAMPLER and I really love it.
Avatar Mon. 8/11/14 12:16pm Doug Schulkind:

I have to go help a 97-year-old eat some lunch. Back in 90 minutes!
Avatar Mon. 8/11/14 12:19pm Jeff Golick:

Good luck, Doug.
  Mon. 8/11/14 12:20pm Jeff J:

Gary - If you google the title and PDF it should come up. Cope apparently felt the book was a fan's appreciation of the genre, written b/c there was no other info out there, and since the book came out better scholarship has been done. He felt his book was awkward and contained some misinformation. Personally I think it's a really interesting, enthusiastic, and opinionated take on the music. Very worthwhile.
Avatar Mon. 8/11/14 12:21pm Jeff Golick:

Re Cope's book: a second ed. with corrections or whatever would certainly be welcomed.
  Mon. 8/11/14 12:21pm Jeff J:

Gary - Been meaning to get Japrocksampler.

  Mon. 8/11/14 12:37pm Dean:

In Southern California, there was once a unique record store devoted to imports: Moby Disc Records in Van Nuys. When it was a standalone store, it was amazing. During the '80s new branches opened in the southland, and it eventually became watered down.
