There's an amusing story about Annie Oakley missing an opportunity to blow off Kaiser Wilhelm's head when he attended a Wild West Show and volunteered for one of her trick shooting stunts. After the war started, she offered to repeat the demonstration, but The Kaiser wisely declined.

Listening to this version of "Machine Gun" and thinking Billy Childish was wrong: Hendrix really WAS the only musician.

Ha! Actually, that Headcoats album title apparently is taken from a comment that the music teacher wrote on young Billy's report card.

Neil Young said it best: nobody in the same BUILDING with Hendrix!
  3:19pm
Slanzy:

As far as bringing electric blues to us all like this=yes and no one ever will be @VPriceless; I don't believe the blues was meant to progress beyond this point...as it cant.

Is it safe to come out now?
Avatar 3:20pm
glenn:

frankly, i'm more impressed by jimi's work ethic than by any natural abilities he possessed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
Doug Schulkind:

This is better than Cher's version.
Avatar 3:26pm
V Priceless:

@ glenn - safe to say, I think, that's part of the package w/Hendrix - not just his playing, but his output, song-writing, singing (though he'd be first to put down his own voice), and vision.
Avatar 3:28pm
glenn:

he played guitar for 10 hours a day. it's no wonder he was good.
  3:34pm
Slanzy:

I think Jimi could write a great soul ballad on a whim also; But alas enough of that...at least from me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
pacific standard simon:

Hendrix's blind spot about his voice never ceases to amaze me -- I think it was one of the best in rock 'n' roll. He could have lost both hands and I'd have still bought his records for his singing.
  3:43pm
Slanzy:

On a completely different subject (but not really); Hendrix's death may not been as much of a cornerstone in popular amercan culture (as apposed to JFK & John Lennon);ALTHOUGH in the context of music and and among the greatest musicians that ever walked the planet it most certainly was.
