Righteous! Good Morning fxo!
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 6:07am Sem Chumbo:
Good morning, Frank. Missed you live last week, as Arthur left us powerless for three days.
Mon. 7/14/14 6:09am fxo:
goob morgan, P-90 & Sem. Power's up!
Mon. 7/14/14 6:09am P-90:
Woah... Didn't know Arthur hit that hard up there.
Mon. 7/14/14 6:10am HarktheUmpire:
Good to see you're still alive, Sem!
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 6:12am Sem Chumbo:
The tropical storm tore up major transmission lines. Some out here in the country still do not have electricity 8 days later.
Hiya, Hark. Thanks.
Mon. 7/14/14 6:15am fxo:
Always the spark from alla yez.
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 6:21am Sem Chumbo:
Loved that Hathaway. Everything he does is funky:)
Mon. 7/14/14 6:26am mauri:
afternoon good folks
Mon. 7/14/14 6:40am kat330:
Hi, Frank and folk! This beauty should perk up your day and whatever is left of it: apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap140714.html
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 6:41am Jeroen Kuster:
Good morning all, Iam looking forward to it
Mon. 7/14/14 6:43am HarktheUmpire:
Mon. 7/14/14 6:45am fxo:
mauri, say hello to Jeroen, and, of course, kat, and not to forget you, Jeroen
Mon. 7/14/14 6:46am kat330:
@fxo: After some delay to hear your familiar opening music this a.m., we were smiling widely at how cheerful you sounded in your first mic break. ☼
Mon. 7/14/14 6:49am fxo:
and not to forget HarktheUmp. Thanks kat I need my drops...
Mon. 7/14/14 6:50am kat330:
Ha! We speculated you'd had a big slug of Kickapoo Joy Juice.
Mon. 7/14/14 6:54am fxo:
when Abner was li'l...
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 6:55am Sem Chumbo:
Mon. 7/14/14 6:58am kat330:
Well, it was a weekend full of more moonshine than usual.
Mon. 7/14/14 7:00am P-90:
Ah yes, way back, when Abner was L'il...
Just thinking the show has a particularly contemplative tone today. Just saying...
And yeah, fxo DID sound a little extra "bouncy" on the first mic break!
Mon. 7/14/14 7:06am kat330:
@pierre (if lurking) and any others in France: Joyeux Jour de la Bastille!

goede middag HarktheUmpire alles goed
Mon. 7/14/14 7:13am kat330:
Mon. 7/14/14 7:21am kat330:
I like this. Early on thought the vocal was Paul Simon with Dylan attitude.
Mon. 7/14/14 7:25am kat330:
Requires great pressure for diamonds to form (on the soles of her feet).
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:32am fred:
@kat330: Thanks kat. I had never heard of "jour de la bastille" before finding WFMU. It's officially called "fête nationale" over here, but more commonly called "14 juillet". To me, it's a day off, which is cause for celebration
Mon. 7/14/14 7:33am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
...Frank's gonna make us guess who's w/ Jack on this...
Mon. 7/14/14 7:33am kat330:
@fred: Ahh, thanks for the correction. I thought it'd be on the mark to use Google's literal translation. At least the point is made. :)
And speaking of corrections -- it's an endless stream for me it seems -- that s.b. "soles of her shoes" not feet, sigh.
Mon. 7/14/14 7:34am HarktheUmpire:
@Jeroen: Ach, 't gaat best aardig, dank je. Met jou?
Mon. 7/14/14 7:36am Jack:
I thought it was me, but this is Jack Bruce, Cream song but not Cream. (g'morning all)
Mon. 7/14/14 7:37am P-90:
Thanks for the link, Frere Sem. It says fireworks at 23:00 Paris time. So, we are six hours behind them during Daylight Savings Time? Always confusing...zut!
Mon. 7/14/14 7:38am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
...Bob had diamonds & sundry anatomy in 'Spanish Harlem Incident'...including someone's heels...
Mon. 7/14/14 7:38am HarktheUmpire:
Wow! This is great!
Mon. 7/14/14 7:39am kat330:
@RR: (Speaking of pressure, still a lady-in-waiting for a loonng delayed email ;).
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:40am Guido from Cologne:
Good morning Frank!
just thought this is another crazy mix with some eary beatles ... hehe
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:41am fred:
@kat: not really a correction, more like an answer to a trivia question. I'm guilty of using literal translations from English myself, sometimes intentionally
@P-90: it's indeed 6 hours, except for the few extra weeks of DST in the US
Mon. 7/14/14 7:41am kat330:
Maybe fxo's gonna make us guess the entire rest of the playlist?
Oh, and exactly when did our ♥'s disappear? I remember them still from last Thursday I believe.
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:41am Sem Chumbo:
What is this, and why is Keith wailing away in the bg?
Mon. 7/14/14 7:42am HarktheUmpire:
now it's going off the rails a bit
Mon. 7/14/14 7:42am kat330:
Can't wait to clickety-click -- quit teasing, Frank! :)
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:43am Guido from Cologne:
... this Is another crazy mix ... now where is it?
Mon. 7/14/14 7:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
...yes Kat - speaking of pressure - that's been on my conscience - apologies...
...hope Frank's okay!; maybe his keyboard got unplugged - the music & comments are flowing...
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:46am Guido from Cologne:
The War On Drugs play Bossa nova!
Mon. 7/14/14 7:47am kat330:
Maybe he had to step out for some more Kickapoo Juice.
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:48am Sem Chumbo:
Hairless Joe and Lonesome Polecat: The proud purveyors of "Kickapoo Joy Juice" — a moonshine elixir of such stupefying potency that the fumes alone have been known to melt the rivets off battleships.
Mon. 7/14/14 7:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
...it's not like the olde days - yerknow - when a DJ could just spin exceptional music & sniff kickapoo fumes...
Mon. 7/14/14 7:50am kat330:
@Sem: Here are my creds on that: I'm the right age for the Abner strip, I'm basically from KY (a river away), and I played "Daisy Mae" in an Adirondacks resort production of the musical.
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:53am Sem Chumbo:
@kat: any photos extant of that last bit? I have a little bit of a thing for polka dot blouses:)
Mon. 7/14/14 7:55am kat330:
Ha! You're the second one to ask that -- I believe Holly in NC was the other. Unfortunately not. Way before the time of an endless photo flow. Always speculated some guest(s) of that summer probably took a few. Would love to see one myself.
Mon. 7/14/14 7:56am kat330:
I think I now see what fxo was occupied in doing.
Mon. 7/14/14 7:56am fxo:
sorry gang, I had to change the CD players. I lost my mojo. Now, I'm back.
Mon. 7/14/14 7:58am fxo:
I forgot to say hallo to Guido, and RevRab. HEY!
Mon. 7/14/14 7:58am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
Dismiss our impertinence; nice save Captain.
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 7:59am Sem Chumbo:
Sultry, this Julie London. Though I can't imagine how Yummy, Yummy is going to fare...an exciting moment coming up, I guess.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:00am kat330:
[gales of laughter!]
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:00am Guido from Cologne:
hey hey Mr. DeeJay!
Julie London is real cool!
Mon. 7/14/14 8:01am fxo:
Ms. London was an early fixation, as a lad.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:01am kat330:
I had thought fxo was scouting around just for the moonshine reference of Stoned Soul Picnic.
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:01am Sem Chumbo:
Any chance the '60's Lee Hazelwood had anything to do with this? Enquiring minds...
Mon. 7/14/14 8:02am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
...it does make the point how much Bubblegum was about sex...
Mon. 7/14/14 8:03am fxo:
everyone's correct. and hello to Fred.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:12am fxo:
Julie London used to be married to Bobby Troup (write and arranger - he wrote Route 66). Previously, julie was married to -go for it- Jack Webb!
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:13am Sem Chumbo:
I'd just like to mention that Canadians everywhere are estatic that one of our own has had the great honour of having the 'FMU performance space named after him. CANADA,CANADA,CANADA!
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:17am Guido from Cologne:
i have the one or anothe Julie London LP.
I completely understand what the young lads must have felt at the time.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:20am kat330:
@Guido: May I presume congrats are in order? I only caught two WC games, and both were nil-nil for for-effin-ever. (The other was Argentina v Netherlands.)
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:21am common:
Mon. 7/14/14 8:22am t_J:
hi electrified personnel and Frank
Mon. 7/14/14 8:24am t_J:
still in shock for the authoritarian outcome of WC.. poor utopians
Mon. 7/14/14 8:26am fxo:
hey common & t_J, welcome. Al Capp was fascistic, but a war hero, who lost a leg. Daisy Mae was also an early fixation. kat, maybe you might make a sketch
of your performance. Va-Va-Boom.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:27am t_J:
nvrmd all's good and natural xcpt 4 us
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:28am Guido from Cologne:
Thank you Kat!
Well, I must confess, i did not play. ;-)
Both teams were equal forces and there were three occasions of sheer luck for the Germans.
I'm grateful it had not to end with a Ppenalty shoot-out.
Argentina v Netherlands wasn't a pleasure to see.
The mental state of the Brazil team was heart-tearing. actually.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:29am kat330:
Ha! Even the pushiest of bras couldn't make me a close emulation to Capp's creation, but I held my own vocally, etc.
Signing off the keyboard now -- busy, busy day ahead -- but will still be tuned in. Thanks for a joyful kick and ear juicy morning, Frank!
Mon. 7/14/14 8:30am fxo:
the pleasure seems mine... heh heh.
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:30am Guido from Cologne:
i think "Merriweather Post Pavilion" is their very best.
Kinda Beach Boys brilliance gone avantgarde ...
Mon. 7/14/14 8:31am 3d-nyc:
see you later Kate!
Mon. 7/14/14 8:32am 3d-nyc:
..that is KAT... as in 330.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:33am t_J:
that's the thing a true fan would prefer a game like that to end before penalty's i was glad
Mon. 7/14/14 8:33am P-90:
@fxo and Co.: I was wondering how long it would be after the Dogpatch references began until someone mentioned what a reactionary maniac Capp became in his later years. Somewhere there 's footage of Capp's visit to John and Yoko's Bed-in for Peace- -he went up there abolutely sure he was going to successfully ridicule them before the gathered press. John, no small wit himself, totally deflected Capp's attacks and he sheepishly backed down. A classic WIN for the good guys...
Mon. 7/14/14 8:35am fxo:
lower case k. P-90, I forgot the scene between Capp and John Lennon.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:39am t_J:
when the abilities we take in care are purely artistic and mirrored we tend to assume characters greater in presence than kenny powers
Mon. 7/14/14 8:39am P-90:
Also worth noting that many celebrated cartoonists and illustrators, including some of the original MAD mag guys, passed through Capp's studio as apprentices. Wanna know where Frank Frazetta learned to draw sexy women? He drew Lil Abner (and Daisy Mae) for Capp for a while in the '50s.
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:46am Sem Chumbo:
Thanks, Frank, for all of this morning's spins, and especially these last half-dozen. Yowzah. See you again next time, weather gods permitting.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:47am P-90:
Later, Sem. Julie London was an actress, you should be able to find clips of her if you're curious.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:49am fxo:
since I've returned from my disc problem, I appreciate that y'all cared. I'll have a new webcast, next Monday, same time zone, and better usage of the equipment. Thanks for hangin' with me, good friends.
Peace in your valley...
♥ Mon. 7/14/14 8:51am Guido from Cologne:
Thank you for the tunes Frank!
I was about to go for lunch right now, but I'm stuck to this section with Country Joe and quicksilver. Wonderful!
Mon. 7/14/14 8:52am HarktheUmpire:
Thanks for the show Frank. It was great!
Hope your Monday's as mellow as mine.
Mon. 7/14/14 8:53am P-90:
Always a great show, Frank. "see" you next week.
