Good morning all! Helluva GIF!!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:46am Doug Schulkind:

I completely agree, Listeners James, but are you pronouncing it "GIF" or "GIF"? This is important!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:48am listener james from westwood:

I suspect I'm wrong, but I am team "DJIF." It is my shibboleth. Or GIFoleth.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:49am listener james from westwood:

With the looping he's almost more circulatory than pulmonary in action.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:49am Doug Schulkind:

Choosey listeners choose DJIF!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:50am listener james from westwood:

Ah, that explains my soft-G bias. Childhood PBJs!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:50am Jeff Golick:

What's the reason behind the elevated bell on his trumpet? Have always wondered about that.

Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:51am Doug Schulkind:

He can go like this forever. He is breathing through his ears.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:53am Doug Schulkind:

Upward bent mornin' to you, Jeff Golick!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:55am glenn:

i would bet it's because the mike was overhead.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:56am glenn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 8:56am Parq:

I once saw a film of him doing a children's presentation. He got a big kick out of the fact that the kids got a big kick out of his puffing cheeks.

morning Doug and everyone!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:57am ndbob:

Only here briefly this morning - have a medical issue to take care of - but back sometime later
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 8:58am Doug Schulkind:

Kids love puffins!

Morning, ndbob!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:00am listener james from westwood:

ndbob, do be well. Same story, but I'll need to duck out, with regrets, during UM's show.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:00am duke:

Good Morning all and sundry
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:01am Parq:

ty ty - swimmingly fits well actually - my ear has been clogged for 2 weeks - s i will try out one of the clinics here
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:06am glenn:

that's a whole lot of dinky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:07am ausmanx:

i am picturing the deejay stepping elegantly around the studio
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:08am Doug Schulkind:

Oh I hate that ndbob. I get clogged ears very easily. If earwax was an energy source, I could illuminate Cincinnati for a year.

Your DJ is stepping gaily, if not quite elegantly.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:08am ndbob:

Well let me go and get this over with - catch what I miss on the archive
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:12am listener james from westwood:

ausmanx, I'll trade you. We could house-sit each other's domiciles and get a dose of the opposite season.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:15am Alex In Illinois:

I once tried to burn earwax when I was a kid. I failed Why do they call it a wax? At least I did not try to shine a car with it. I heard the story behind Dizzy's trumpet is that early on, a trumpet of his got bent that way by accident, and he did not have time or money to get it straightened, so that became is trademark eve since. I don't play trumpet, but I have been told that most trumpet teachers say not to puff your cheeks when playing.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:15am glenn:

i'm switching my world cup allegiance from germany to argentina, just because pope francis is kinda cool, and former pope benedict is a giant douche.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:16am still b/p:

I bought the ear drops to do the self-wax-attack, but I ain't got 'round to it yet. I had no idea when I got up a while ago I'd be reporting that publicly this morning.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:16am Alex In Illinois:

I just use Hydrogen Peroxide on a swab.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:17am Doug Schulkind:

Hey-oo, Alex! I think you are right on all three points: (1) Not flammable (2) Bent by accident (3) Don't puff
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:18am Parq:

Still b/p, as usual, your perspective on things is a resource to treasure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:18am ausmanx:

i hear it's a tad warm there, listener james... we always want what we havenae got!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:22am Doug Schulkind:

I am rooting for Pope Messi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:23am doca:

El Messias
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:23am doca:

Argentinians already have D10s, the Pope, and now they have the Messias. It is a soccer theocracy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:28am Parq:

Wait, I meant Glenn for his World Cup comment. But in general, my opinion of SBP's perspicacity stands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:28am ausmanx:

and don't forget Angel di Maria
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:29am glenn:

still, if it goes to penalty kicks, i'm going to go all elvis presley-hating-robert goulet and shoot a television.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:29am Doug Schulkind:

Just had to close my studio windows. The neighbor is leafblowin' again. #stupidhumans
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 7/11/14 9:29am Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:30am Parq:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:31am doca:

@ausmanx: that's true.
@Jeff G: if you're interested, here's Knausgaard on soccer and Angel di Maria: "looks like Kafka, plays like a dream"

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 9:36am ausmanx:

di Maria is the reason i tipped Argentina to win all those weeks ago, not Messi. so he'd better play in the final! apologies to dedicated leaf blowers out there, but those things really are just about the stupidest appliances on the planet
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:40am Doug Schulkind:

Let me ask you, guys, has anyone ever went to Buenos Aires? I'm going in two weeks, first time there (although it is really close to Porto Alegre)
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:45am Gary:

I have Daido Moriyama's Buenos Aires (a great book), and that's as close as I've ever been. Jealous! I'd love to go down there someday

Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:58am Doug Schulkind:

Hitting the trifecta, Alex!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 9:58am listener james from westwood:

Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 10:03am Doug Schulkind:

I think they are wonderful. But you have to make sure you get the complete radio shows with all the between-song banter and live-read commercials. The Williams family only authorized the release of the edited radio shows...
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 10:04am Alex In Illinois:

This is from the Ozarks!? Amazing! I guess there must have been some Scotch-Irish migration from the Appalachians!
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 10:06am still b/p:

Talk about instrusive noise -- I was on one of our harbor islands recently when a local attorney's racing boat was zipping and RRROARING around. Its insane, ugly, remakably big-radius noise reached many miles of nearby coast, disturbing and afflicting who knows how many ears. Idjit dick machine, idjit dick owner. "Listen to me and my power. You will listen to ME!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 7/11/14 10:08am northguineahills:

My neighbors have moved out, so I can actually listen this morning on the hi-fi, a rare treat. However, some of my tape pieces master tapes were thrown out as the new bldg mngt purged everything in the hallways.

Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 10:12am Alex In Illinois:

@still b/p: Cigarette boats is what we call those things in the Chicago area, and also my folks in Miami Beach call them that too. Other than assholism, they are good for drug-running.
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 10:12am Gary:

Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 10:14am listener james from westwood:

Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 10:15am Gary:

And SUPER love this Serge
Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 10:17am Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of Serge Gainsbourg, Gary Sullivan has a extraordinary special coming up:

Hommage à Serge Gainsbourg
Wednesday, July 16th, 7pm - 10pm
on Bodega Pop Live with Gary Sullivan (on Give the Drummer Radio stream)
How better to celebrate La Fête Nationale than with a three-hour tribute to "France's answer to David Bowie, Mick Jagger and John Lennon rolled into one smoke cloud of controversy"? Prep your ears for rare tracks, covers incroyable, sweet samples & swipes — and a decent serving of the original, unimpeachable hits.

My first thought was, "maybe a bad rip, try another mp3 in Traktor." But then when the third different track started hiccoughing, I knew I was in troubles.

Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 11:10am Doug Schulkind:

The last time I got antibiotics for my ears was in New York on September 10, 2001. I was supposed to come back in to have them checked the next day. Even if I could have made it in to the doctor, he wouldn't have been there. He was at a nearby hospital on call for the mad rush of injured. A few days later, when I did get in to see the doctor, he told me not one person was brought in to the emergency room.

Avatar Fri. 7/11/14 11:28am βrian:

I once sang that one in Chorale. What a blast!
