Let's get down to brass tacks.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:01pm duke:

Don't sit on any brass tacks
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:13pm Jeff Golick:

For those in the NYC area, there's a documentary about the NYAQ premiering at Anthology Film Archives on Sunday evening, May 18th! Showing with NY Eye and Ear Control! At least one Jeff should be there...
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:14pm Jeff Golick:

Also, a brassy HELLO to Uncle Michael and duke!
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:16pm Uncle Michael:

Hello Jeff (and Jeff)...glad to be with you. I'll be with you in a mobile capacity for a bit.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:18pm doca:

Hi Jeff, duke and Uncle Michael
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:18pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, what's up, doca!
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:18pm Jeff Golick:

@UM: music to ride to, coming up.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:20pm doca:

This is one is a nice KV track. Somehow I lost track of his work around 2005 after he disbanded the Vandermark 5
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:21pm duke:

Gotta go to a thesis defense. I hope there's at least a sword fight. catch you on the archives.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:22pm doca:

@duke: it could also be a fight on the mud, but that doesn't seem very pleasant in an academic setting. see ya duke
  Mon. 4/28/14 12:23pm alan:

Shameless self-promotion: The NYC premiere of The Breath Courses Through Us, a documentary film about the New York Art Quartet, will take place on Sunday, May 18, 7:30 at Anthology Film Archives on Second Ave and 2nd St, with a screening of Michael Snow's New York Eye & Ear Control.
It is also John Tchicai's birthday today!
  Mon. 4/28/14 12:24pm alan:

oops....I should read the other posts first!!! thanks Jeff.
(listening now in Mexico City)
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:26pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, alan! I think that warrants multiple mentions!
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:26pm Jeff Golick:

Bye, duke! Enjoy?
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:30pm Doug Schulkind:

You know, you're opening theme sounded uncannily like the one by the same name by Roscoe Mitchell.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:33pm Jeff Golick:

Not to be confused with Mitch Mitchell...
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:35pm Doug Schulkind:

Some good news for Roscoe "Mitch" Mitchell: www.npr.org...
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:36pm Jeff Golick:

Such a wonderful and amazing list of names on that! One could even plan a Doris Duke show...
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:41pm Shaun:

Signed in to fav this mother :)
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:41pm Shaun:

Tchicai. Hello all.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:47pm Brian in UK:

Hello brace of Jeffs.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:50pm Carmichael:

Someone mentioned the Doris Day show? Hi Jeffs, Doug, and everyone else.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:53pm Doug Schulkind:

Heya Carm!
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:54pm Jeff Golick:

Greetings, Shaun! And mother.

Hello, Brian in UK and Carmichael. Carmichael, you are really cooking there (or de-smelling a fridge?).
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:55pm Carmichael:

Yes Jeff, but I'm using an off-brand, so it could take longer to work.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:56pm Jeff Golick:

{{{ takes a closer look... }}}
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 12:56pm Jeff Golick:

Aha. Looks like I axed the wrong question.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:03pm Doug Schulkind:

If I was paid a nickel for every time I passed over a copy of this record in a cut-out bin somewhere...
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:05pm Jeff Golick:

But were you wearing payes?
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:11pm earrie:

This is coming through as a whole lotta calm, deep breaths.
Glad to be listening. Yes.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:12pm Jeff Golick:

Yay, earrie. Wayne does do the whole Buddhist thing...
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:12pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, George Benson! Welcome to the Miles Davis quintet.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:13pm Doug Schulkind:

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO DJ NEWS...
You may be aware that your Charlotte, North Carolina, half of the DO Radio tag-team, Jeff Jackson, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times' Book Award, but did you know...

(1) Jeff J will be in Brooklyn on May 12 participating in the Franklin Park Reading Series: franklinparkbrooklyn.com...

(2) A play that Jeff co-wrote will be performed the week of May 9-17. The play will happen in the Brill Building in mid-town Manhattan and admission is FREE: www.timessquarenyc.org...
  Mon. 4/28/14 1:19pm ?:

As a resident of NC, I had no idea, way to go! I am totally oblivious to the cultural musings of Charlotte...
  Mon. 4/28/14 1:20pm ?:

This is a fantastic set by the way
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:21pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks! ?
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:23pm Jeff Golick:

Next tune is the only one in this set not written by Wayne, though it is written by a Shorter.
  Mon. 4/28/14 1:26pm ?:

Jeff, did you happen to catch any of Ken Vandermark's stride through our state? In or out of the triangle?
  Mon. 4/28/14 1:29pm Jeff J:

Unfortunately I didn't catch him this time! Saw him with Tim Daisy here in Charlotte a few years back. Fine show.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:32pm Doug Schulkind:

Jeff and Jeff, I was going to ask if you had the double-LP Alan Shorter made in Florence, but then I remembered that it was that OTHER BROTHER, Donald Ayler who made the double-LP in Florence. While I have you, do you have that one?!?
  Mon. 4/28/14 1:32pm ?:

I was also unable to attend, luckily he as been a willing to performer round these parts.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:33pm SeanG:

I'm locked in!
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:34pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: Nah me.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:34pm doca:

Great Wayne Shorter set indeed! I've never listened to his solo work with much attention, never thought it could be better than that second Miles quintet
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:34pm Jeff Golick:

Heya, SeanG. Wayne holds the key, no doubt.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:43pm earrie:

Great news.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:43pm doca:

It is really an ugly cover for Blue Note (capa feia, in Portuguese, maybe explaining the album's title).
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:49pm doca:

A silly question: on this box set there are presented new recordings of those tunes or just they're re-released? I'm trying to figure out the differences between this one and the one released on the same title album.
  Mon. 4/28/14 1:50pm Dean:

Recently acquired both the Resonance box and the Parker Wood Flute Songs. Both are spectacular live accounts.
  Mon. 4/28/14 1:51pm Dean:

@doca, I believe most if not all of the tunes are new recordings from different live shows.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:54pm Jeff Golick:

@doca: Dean is correct. They are all new live recordings on the WOOD FLUTE SONGS box, though drawing on a book of tunes that (as you've seen) show up on many of the previous albums by the quartet (and related groups).
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:54pm doca:

Ah OK, thanks, Dean
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:55pm Doug Schulkind:

I would've liked to have been there in your head as you had an inner dialogue about whether to play this song or not.
  Mon. 4/28/14 1:56pm Dean:

@Doug: Would have sounded a bit like Hamlet, no?
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 1:58pm Doug Schulkind:

@Dean
'Tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous Coltrane.
  Mon. 4/28/14 2:00pm Dean:

Too bad Sonny Fortune didn't cover this.
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 2:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Touché!
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 2:04pm Brian in UK:

Good work gents, got to cut out going to the pictures (movies).
Avatar Mon. 4/28/14 2:07pm Jeff Golick:

Nice, Brian! Later. What're you going to see?
Avatar Tue. 4/29/14 1:33am Brian in UK:

I went to see 'The Past' by Asghar Farhadi. Excellent but not a bundle of laughs same guy a 'A Separation'.
