At first, I thought this was an outtake from Game Of Thrones, heh.

Caryn, *great* profile pic!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:14pm βrian:

Best cover I've heard of this.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:16pm Mike East:

I was in New Orleans jamming with some friends last week and threw in some Lou Reed "covers." Unfortunately didn't make the cutoff date for getting them in to Kurt.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:19pm Caryn:

Thanks, Parq! What can I say, my love for the movie, Dahl, and especially Gene Wilder is just summed up by a little gif.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:21pm Kurt Gottschalk:

happy good friday everyone!

Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:29pm Minnesota Jeff:

Caryn, I like the taste of pineapple.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:29pm kirk from beer city usa:

right on
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:31pm Mary Wing:

Oh hey, Saturday is Record Store Day! Who is going shopping?
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:33pm Mike East:

@Mary - I'm gonna try to make it to my local shop after grocery shopping tomorrow. Just got word Finewine is gonna be at Generation tomorrow...doubt I can make it into the city though.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:33pm Caryn:

@MJ: a situation where the answer has an Occam's razor-type purity and simplicity about it. Lovely.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:35pm Caryn:

@Mary: been avoiding even looking at the records on offer this time, since the 1.50 in change in my purse isn't going to buy me a thing on RSD.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:35pm Mike East:

@MJ - I cut up a pineapple this week. it was goddamn delicious.i love it when I gauge the ripeness just right.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:36pm βrian:

Try fresh pineapple with crushed fresh mint. Dynamic!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:38pm βrian:

No milk in *that* chocolate. It's the real stuff!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:38pm Mary Wing:

I can't deal with queuing for hours for anything, anymore, so I'm going to buy some dollar records at my favorite thrift store instead, heh.

Man, I sure could go for some fresh pineapple and a chocolate Jesus right now.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:39pm fred:

Caryn, my appreciation for Finland went back up a notch today: I was supposed to work on Monday, but since it's a holiday there, it's one for me. And today too, so even though I had to work, I could leave early for beersies
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:39pm common:

you said it, mary wing! i - too - wish for records, chocolate jesus, pineapple and also beersies. oh wait, here's one beersie.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:40pm Kurt Gottschalk:

when i was in finland a few years back there were record stores everywhere!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:41pm Caryn:

@fred: yeah, 4-day weekend, plus a lot of people had short days or days off on Thursday too.
@Kurt: we are fond of our record stores. It's still the main way I buy music.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:41pm fred:

RSD is not bittersweet, just plain bitter for me, because Bimbo Tower is gone
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:43pm fred:

@Caryn: I know! That meant there was no way to reschedule the conference call planned for Monday. One hour of boredom avoided!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:43pm Caryn:

Cut fresh pineapple into cubes or slivers, mottle together fresh mint and sugar into a nice "wet sand" consistency, then sprinkle the mint sugar and some natural yoghurt over the pineapple. Lovely.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:45pm Mary Wing:

I was hoping Kurt was going to tell us that Matthew 10:36 is "a man's enemies will be the members of his household." Oh well.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:45pm Mike East:

@fred - I just read about a "smoke and mirrors martini" which rinses the glass with Laphroaig and garnished with a blue cheese stuffed olive. Seems like a waste of good scotch, but also could be delicious.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:48pm Carmichael:

Heya Kurt! Will you play a cut from Jesus Christ Superstar in honor?
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:48pm fred:

@Mike East: I'm willing to volunteer for quality-controlling the first step
  Fri. 4/18/14 3:48pm ?:

hey ah, hey. i ah i wanna be your best bud!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:50pm Mike East:

@Carm - 10 bucks says Jonesy plays one on sunday...if he's in.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:52pm fred:

@Mike East: Did I tell you about that splendid rye I got?
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:54pm Mike East:

@fred - possibly...I know we were discussing an artisinal rye from San Francisco (I think) a few weeks back.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:55pm Carmichael:

That's the Barber Shop Rye, isn't it Fred?
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 3:57pm fred:

@Mike East and Carm: That's the one. Sonoma County Rye, from 1512 spirits. So good there's not as much left as I'd like. Delicious. I had to make sure I had spread the word
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:00pm Mike East:

yeah, I remember reading that article. I'll look for it for sure next time I'm at the fancy pants liquor store (as opposed to the broke ass one I usually get my beers at)
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:02pm northguineahills:

Nice Larry Polansky!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:07pm Mary Wing:

Wow, this Dva is bee-youty-ful. Dreamy like those slowed-down x800% tracks that people create.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:07pm Mike East:

dig the DVA
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:08pm fred:

Clicky-star for that DVA
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:09pm Parq:

@Mary, 3;38 - on the first RSD, after I went to the one participating store in my neck of the woods,l I went to a few of my favorite used-record stores. The owners were kind of unimpressed with the whole thing. And I agree with you about skipping the lines at the participating stores. Besides, the WFMU Record Fair is just six weeks away!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:09pm doca:

is this the same DVA from the new album released on northern spy?
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:11pm βrian:

A nice warm horn-shower.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:14pm Mary Wing:

Oh shoot, you're right, Parq! Ye Record Fair is nigh!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:16pm common:

beersies at work on a friday with yoos guys makes everything ok.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:16pm Parq:

This Heavens brass-and-reed bit is terrific. Or is it all reeds?
  Fri. 4/18/14 4:16pm Lulu:

this is beautifuL
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:18pm fred:

The Record Fair... I wish I can make it there someday. Not that likely though, I'd rather give my extra income to the station
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:26pm Parq:

Wow, I've never heard Ella do that scrunchy thing with her voice before.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:26pm fred:

That Come Sunday track was quite great. I'll be seeing Peter Brötzmann with Steve Noble next week. I have high hopes for this, but Brötzmann has disappointed me so many times... Has anyone seen that duo?
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:27pm common:

me neither, parq
  Fri. 4/18/14 4:33pm Marie:

Diggin' the jazz. Thanks.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:36pm Carmichael:

Calabaza Blanca from Jolly Pumpkin Brewing in Dexter, Michigan. Today's official beersie, according to my beersie-a-day desk calendar.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:38pm βrian:

Jolly Pumpkin. I know the place well. Near Ann Arbor, the center of the world.
  Fri. 4/18/14 4:39pm Marie:

Is Ken listening to this?
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:39pm 37:

ok.... here we go!!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:40pm Carmichael:

No kidding, Brian? I've never heard of most of these recommendations. Glad to hear they actually exist out there.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:40pm Carmichael:

Nice, Marie! Maybe she can sing Nobody Does It Better.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:42pm βrian:

Yeah, they kind of specialize in Belgian sours, I think they're called.
  Fri. 4/18/14 4:42pm Marie:

Yeah Carm, right! Maybe we could ask Kurt to ask them...
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:50pm Minnesota Jeff:

Kurt, how about a good Friday treat for us all - sing a song on air!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:51pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i'm singing right now!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:55pm northguineahills:

This is fantastic!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:56pm Minnesota Jeff:

Yeah, this is wild stuff.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:56pm 37:

Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:56pm fred:

@Marie: Ken isn't listening to Kurt's show. The guy has a Eagles tattoo, that says it all doesn't it (and I don't mean the football team, though that would rule out this show too)
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 4:57pm common:

now home for art and song and.........beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeersies!!!
happy beersies everybody! thanks kurt!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:05pm steve:

hey Kurt. love the vocal group.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:08pm Sigurdur:

jawoolt man,.,.,. sometimes one does not know if one is on stage or in the audience
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:14pm Sigurdur:

philosophically speaking of course...........
  Fri. 4/18/14 5:15pm Marie:

Hey Fred, I think that tattoo might be ironic? One he had to have during the annual fundraiser? But he might be listening if he knew there were some German chicks on who would be talking and singing...
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:19pm Carmichael:

He got the Eagles tattoo because he lost a bet to Andy. Andy got a Bloods tattoo for the same reason. Also, my friend was lsitening to 7SD yesterday for the 1st time. He said something like, "This is the dumbest show ever."
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:22pm northguineahills:

Last Wednesday's show of 7SD was one their dumbest ever, and that really says a lot. (still listened to most of it).
  Fri. 4/18/14 5:24pm Marie:

"Dumbest Show Ever"--a great new slogan. I was surprised Andrea left FMU.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:24pm Carmichael:

We were in my garage working on the car. He gave me a WTF look, and I just laughed.
  Fri. 4/18/14 5:26pm Marie:

  Fri. 4/18/14 5:30pm Danne D:

Yay XTC :D
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:45pm northguineahills:

Woohoo! I got my swag! Fastest ever!
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:49pm Kurt Gottschalk:

yeah, they've really been stepping up the mailing the last couple years. i've noticed as well.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:50pm northguineahills:

Normally, I expect it in July/August.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:50pm ironybread:

This is the segue police...we approve of your recent segue. You may go about your business. However we'd be willing to waive your registration fees this year if you somehow found and played "Jesus I Am Loving You" by Totem Pole of Losers.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:52pm Kurt Gottschalk:

oh, sweet irony! i'm two floors from the library and there's 7 minutes left in my show! i did mean to grab laibach's 'jesus christ superstar" pursuant to a previous request but ... forgot.
Avatar Fri. 4/18/14 5:55pm northguineahills:

Diggity! Thanks again for another great show. Have a great weekend everyone!
