Well done everyone, that $7000 will get squeezed out in the next week, no doubt.

Yes indeed! Hoping the momentum will keep rolling, but that was one amazing haul for 15 days.

I am a bottle half full man personally BUT can always do better.

@Doug our cat got his tail caught in the back door a few years ago & chopped the end off. It did look funny with a dressing on it.

@LJFW
I have some epsom salt baths with Luna in my future. Sharing the rest would be TMI.

@Brian in UK
Our cat Bluestar once caught his tail on fire in the menorah. He was yowling up a holy hell. (Pun intended.)

Yeah, @doca is here!

And howdy, Doug. Sorry to hear about Luna. And your future bathing arrangements...

Well, hello Jeffs and others. Was trying to listen to FMU in Florida, but they apparently don't know what an "inter-net" is. Missed the H&MS; hope it's archived somewhere other than Florida.

Also Spencer the beagles tail went completely flaccid (is that the right word) A little later it was fine. Bit like young children flaming temp one minute then wanting food the next.

I don't think the video from the H&M is archived.

Jeff, driving along this morning with the windows down and the MMW *UP*, I was getting the best looks.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 12:50pm doca:

OK, Doug, I just needed to share it. As a historian and educator, any time-related song with Sesame Street-like puppets is interesting!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 12:50pm listener james from westwood:

Oh, man, that total is sooo close! Someone check Mike Bloomberg's couch cushions! Trump's limo! Warren Buffett's penny jar!!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 12:51pm doca:

I'm sure too WFMU will hit the 100% today. Does WFMU accepts more money than it needs, if it gets the chance to obtain it? I mean, after 100% it could grow on to 101%, 102%...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 12:52pm Jeff Golick:

Uncle Michael in the car! That's awesome.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 12:52pm listener james from westwood:

Far as I know, doca, they'll accept whatever, whenever. There's always a link to a pledge page on the homepage!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 12:55pm Uncle Michael:

I'm almost always listening to the noon starts in the car.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 12:58pm Carmichael:

$2800 and change. That's all the station needs. Less than 8 mouse pledges. Mice pledges.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:00pm doca:

Why the mouse pledge is called mouse pledge?
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:01pm Uncle Michael:

I love those meeces to pieces.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:02pm Jeff Golick:

@doca: has something to do with a prior pledge level known as the House of Tomorrow, I think --- Doug?
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:05pm Uncle Michael:

The Mouse of Today pledge goes to support all of WFMU streaming/archiving/hosting/softwareing computery stuff that's done with a mouse!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:06pm pacific standard simon:

And the House of Tomorrow was to buy the FMU building, yes?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:07pm Doug Schulkind:

@doca
Many years ago, WFMU had to move. It was situated in an old house that was owned by a college that was going bankrupt and needed to sell the house. So WFMU instituted a House of Tomorrow campaign during the (I think) '97 marathon to help finance the purchase of a new building. Once the station moved into its new location, it called the campaign House of Today, to continue paying off the loans the station took out to buy the building.

Around that time, WFMU's online presence began to really take off and it needed to earmark a increasing amount of funds to support the website, the playlists, the archives... and eventually the streams. So the station called its next campaign, The Mouse of Today!

Pledges at first the House and then Mouse level were the dollar-a-day level of $365. Hereafter, we just call those size pledges "Mouse Pledges." And when people pledge at that level, the station earmarks the $$ to support its online projects.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:07pm listener james from westwood:

PSS: Yes indeed.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:11pm doca:

@Doug: Thanks for the insight, I didn't know there was that much history behind the Mouse Pledge name
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:11pm Carmichael:

The pledge total has just increased by 1 mouse pledge exactly!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:11pm pacific standard simon:

It's all quite a testament to the commitment of the WFMU people, and the support of its listeners over the years. I'd pay cash money to read a hardcover history of the station.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:13pm Jeff Golick:

@pss: Until that book, perhaps the upcoming WFMU documentary will suffice? Supposedly coming out later this year, distribution pending..
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:13pm Doug Schulkind:

Looks like D:O Radio has received a new pledge! We shall be hearing about it presently. w00t!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:14pm listener james from westwood:

Excellent!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:15pm Doug Schulkind:

My pleasure, doca!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:15pm Carmichael:

128 stream keep cutting out on me. Had to reload 3 or 4 times thus far.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:15pm Jeff Golick:

Well wouldja look at that!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:16pm Jeff Golick:

Sorry to hear, Camichael. That's annoying...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:17pm Doug Schulkind:

Stream keeps cutting out on me, too.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:18pm doca:

On me too
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:19pm Doug Schulkind:

Is anyone listening via the pop-up player? And if so, how is the connection?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:21pm Gary:

I'm via 128/iTunes ... no cutting out here
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:21pm listener james from westwood:

Lovely show thus far today. It's currently keeping me from gritting my teeth while dealing with medical billing phone trees.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:23pm Carmichael:

Way to go, Jonathan in UK!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:24pm Gary:

Oh, I spoke too soon :-|
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Why is it always "guitar" stylings, but never bassoon or tympani stylings?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:26pm Doug Schulkind:

I am checking out the pop-up player. So far, no probs.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:27pm Jeff Golick:

Good question, Doug. There are of course, hair stylings. And Harry Styles. Why is it always Harry Styles?
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:29pm Gary:

Prose stylings, yes. Poetry stylings, no.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:29pm listener james from westwood:

I'm on the iTunes stream, and it's been hopping on and off. Will try the pop-up.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:30pm Doug Schulkind:

The pop-up player is cutting out, too.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:30pm Brian in UK:

So what does a life coach do?
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:31pm Carmichael:

When I hear the phrase "song stylings", I always think Ferrante & Teicher.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:31pm pacific standard simon:

I am barely here, today, due to various household problems and matters of personal hygiene. Every time I come back, the popup player is crapping out.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:32pm Jeff Golick:

Ugh, so sorry to hear re stream troubles, folks.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:32pm pacific standard simon:

Mmm... Carnegie Hall ambiance!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:34pm Jeff Golick:

Indeed, @pss. I was at this show and this cut, the encore, had me shivering.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:35pm Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff
My daughter is beyond infatuated with the "Larry" relationship in One Direction. Is that infesting your house, too?
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:36pm listener james from westwood:

@Jeff: These things happen (and better they happen after the Marathon instead of during!) Giving the iTunes stream another shot. So far, so good....
  Mon. 3/10/14 1:37pm ktrsBklyn:

Pop-up player in and out. Grr!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:37pm Doug Schulkind:

SORRY about the technical glitches today. WFMU's IT guru, Jeff Moore, is looking into it.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:38pm listener james from westwood:

It's still better than hearing "All representatives are still busy. Please stay on the line" on my speakerphone over and over. Which I am. :O
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:38pm Brian in UK:

@Jeff Heard the heating at Carnegie is awful. Who said the Scots are tight with money!!!!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:38pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: No, we're not at any real infatuation stages yet, unless you count my son's inordinate fondness for Carmelo Anthony.
  Mon. 3/10/14 1:39pm ktrsBklyn:

Honestly, I thought it was supposed to sound like that. [wife humor]
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:40pm Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff G
Really, why would your son be so interested in a future Chicago Bull? HEY-Oh!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:40pm Jeff Golick:

@ktrsBklyn: Sorry, dear. Can play you the whole thing later if you'd like...

Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:43pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: a trade like that would lead to much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments around these parts.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:43pm Doug Schulkind:

2:00 "Husband Needling" penalty on ktrsBrooklyn.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:43pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:47pm listener james from westwood:

@Brian in UK: Fortunately I can get the volume low enough that I only hear D:O, aside from the every-10-seconds reminder. I hope they're paying this parrot by the reminder!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:48pm Jeff Golick:

@pss: We're here as long as Doug will have us!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:50pm pacific standard simon:

Forgot to mention, I'm eagerly awaiting your premium -- it looks great! OK, time to go.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:52pm Doug Schulkind:

Forgive the length of this repost, but New York Magazine just put this up on its website:

New York Public Radio — the organization that includes classical music station WQXR, New Jersey Public Radio, and, of course, WNYC — just received a $10 million grant from the Jerome L. Greene Foundation, the New York Times reports. While $2 million of the new grant will go to supporting the radio group's Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, the remaining $8 million will help New York radio move into the future with Discover, a new feature of the WNYC app that will allow users to create downloadable playlists based on "topics that interest them and the amount of time they want to listen."

Discover is intended to make it easier for listeners to find podcasts they already know and like, as well as to introduce them to shows they're not familiar with. Clearly, the new setup was designed to appeal to two crucial New York demographics that, for either logistical or generational reasons, don't listen to much radio: people who happen to be on the subway and people who happen to be young. And, as the Times points out, the technology will "also keep listeners within the WNYC ecosystem, where they can be encouraged to contribute financially." Because what's a public-radio listening experience without constant, smooth-voiced requests for cash?
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:54pm Uncle Michael:

I prefer my requests for cash, foaming and wild-eyed.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 1:57pm Doug Schulkind:

We KNOW, Uncle Michael. We were listening on Friday!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 1:57pm Uncle Michael:

And I appreciate it!

$2,284 needed. Close, so close ...
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:00pm Brian in UK:

There is talk over here of making it a civil offense to not pay your TV licence (this money funds the BBC, still in my opinion a sterling broadcaster compared to most others) Currently you can go to gaol for not paying. The BBC is often regarded as a bunch of pinko left wingers by 'right' thinking people.
As I heard in a play the other day 'in English politics, the centre is always to the right'

@Jeff you are going in & out like a fiddlers elbow. (128 with iTunes)
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:06pm listener james from westwood:

WNYC needed $8 million for that?! Compare that w/ how much WFMU spent to get its pioneering iPhone app out there! Likely a bit of a difference!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:08pm Brian in UK:

@james quick form a committee, arrange a years worth of meetings, expenses, overnight stays etc.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:08pm Doug Schulkind:

This rebuffering is just brutal. Ornette and Brötzmann could sue us for malpractice.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Actually, this is one of the better Dada-inspired radio shows I've heard in a while.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:10pm Carmichael:

Can we blame Al Gore for these internet problems?

Heya, davex. From the sound of it, about half the show (due to stream technical difficulties).
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:17pm davex:

Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:25pm Jeff:

Yeah, sorry about the stream-cutout hell. So far I'm not seeing/hearing any sign of the same misbehavior on other WFMU streams, so the working theory is that something went wacky in the connection between Jeff G and the public stream server.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:25pm Uncle Michael:

then rebuffered and I got the stream...I think
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:26pm Doug Schulkind:

I am listening via the 128k stream, but AM hearing the GTDR fill in when D:O drops out. Right now I am hearing African dance music.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:27pm Doug Schulkind:

JEFF G,
You are wired into your router and not Wifi, yah?
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:28pm Jeff:

Dammit.

Lessee... FYI, the drummer stream computer is playing Vonga Aye - Para Chocs. So if you hear that, it's not Jeff G.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:29pm Jeff Golick:

(sigh) yeah -- though it's possible the modem needs a reboot?
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:30pm Jeff:

I hate computers.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:30pm Jeff Golick:

Heh. Welp, the iOS app now seems ok...
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:31pm Uncle Michael:

Me too, Jeff...me too.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:31pm Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff G
It's been a good last four minutes on the 128k!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:32pm Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff G
Probably a good idea to reboot your modem every month or two. (Last time I rebooted mine? Last summer maybe. Maybe.)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:33pm northguineahills:

All good o'er here.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:33pm Jeff Golick:

So one hopes that chicken I just sacrificed will not have died in vain...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:34pm Jeff Golick:

The Verizon DSL modem we're using at home looks like it predates the microwave oven.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:34pm listener james from westwood:

Running solid last few on this side via 128K/iTunes now.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:35pm listener james from westwood:

Jeff, I read that as now you have a chicken to make for dinner. Win-win!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:35pm Jeff Golick:

This next cut should pretty accurately reflect my mood...
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:36pm Doug Schulkind:

WFMU is now less than $2k away!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:37pm Doug Schulkind:

I hope we make it during your show, Jeff. It would be a nice bit of psychic reparations.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:38pm Jeff Golick:

Indeed, though one would also understand why the money stopped rolling in...
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:39pm listener james from westwood:

I'd pledge my poker winnings, but I pledged them during the post-Sandy marathon!!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:40pm Carmichael:

The radar range of modems!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:42pm Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: I think there's a special seat reserved for you in the radio heavens.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:42pm Doug Schulkind:

"Post-Sandy" has such a bucolic ring to it. Like arriving home after a day at the beach. (cough cough)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:43pm Jeff Golick:

@ngh: When'd you get here? Welcome!

@Carmichael: if only it were self-cleaning
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:44pm Doug Schulkind:

Here is what I absolutely LOVE about the Give the Drummer Radio audience: Despite all the listening challenges, the audience has pretty much hung in throughout the whole show.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:44pm Jeff Golick:

The cut will take us *almost* to the top of the hour, btw.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:44pm Doug Schulkind:

Less than $500 away!
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:46pm northguineahills:

I've been listening since 1:30, just not on the comments boards.
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:47pm Doug Schulkind:

Less than a premium-sized pledge away!!!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:47pm Carmichael:

$74 away!!
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:49pm Carmichael:

Make that $64. Math and excitement don't play well together.
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:49pm Stanley:

Hi Jeff. I'm just tuning in. Digging the Brotzman.
My favourite is his collaboration with Toshinori Kondo (hint for another day)
Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 2:50pm Stanley:

Champagne ready everyone? (or my case, can of beer)
Avatar Mon. 3/10/14 2:51pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar    Mon. 3/10/14 3:01pm Brian in UK:
