Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:13pm doca:

Over here too! Can anyone lend me some money so I can pledge?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:14pm Jeff Golick:

This Vortetx cut goes rather nicely with today's gif, I'm noticing...
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:15pm Doug Schulkind:

The first people I thought of asking to join Give the Drummer Radio after I got approval from WFMU to create it were Jeff Golick and Jeff Jackson, the bloggers behind Destination:Out. Their taste in music and eloquence in writing about it was a thrill from their very first post. For the past two and half years, the THRILL has been that these two magnificent obsessives have shared their obsessions in radio show form.

Pledge to celebrate and honor their contributions to the stream, WFMU and music lovers everywhere!

Pledge directly to D:O Radio using the box atop the playlist, or by clicking this link: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:18pm Gary:

Hola, everyone!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:21pm pacific standard simon:

Helllooooooo, JEFFS! Really looking forward to the D:O premium.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:22pm Jeff Golick:

Holla, Gary!
'lo 'lo 'lo, @pss!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:24pm Gary:

I always wondered how to pronounce these guys
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:25pm Jeff Golick:

Faintly recalling the pronunciation I heard when buying this CD a while back at DMG...
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:25pm pacific standard simon:

"Snuff Jazz", because "black metal jazz" wasn't intense enough. D:O-man is ALWAYS intense.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:26pm doca:

I read somewhere one of the guys in Borbetomagus saying that they played in a fraternity party or something like that in a major-Ivy League university and that they were invited as a "jazz band". Then they got over there and played their usual thing and needless to say everyone got pretty scared. I remember I laughed hard at the story.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:27pm Jeff Golick:

That sounds about right, doca!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:28pm pacific standard simon:

Can you imagine? If the one jazz record at the frat house was Kind of Blue?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:30pm Gary:

Rockin McLaughlin cut
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:31pm doca:

As it goes, my brother has already asked me to close up my door.
@pss: yes, imagine what would be if your only jazz reference is that.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:35pm listener james from westwood:

shit. harold ramis, RIP. 2014 is fired.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:35pm northguineahills:

Haven't heard that McLaughlin album before. Sweet!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:36pm pacific standard simon:

I do have "It Came From Memphis" -- fine book.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:37pm Gary:

@ljfw, also: www.nytimes.com... ... :(
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:37pm Doug Schulkind:

There are a few radio stations/stream around that may play records like this, but on none of them do they sound as GOOD as this.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:38pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:39pm Jeff Golick:

Hello, @ngh. Great to see you here!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:40pm pacific standard simon:

Well, that sucks. Dead Ramis, that is.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:41pm Gary:

I love that Casey Casem rant.
  Mon. 2/24/14 12:41pm Robert:

Harold Ramis died? I liked him since he was a writer-performer on National Lampoon's Radio Hour and then SCTV. I thought Ken Freedman looked a lot like him. Wha'd he die of?
  Mon. 2/24/14 12:43pm Robert:

Did Andy & Ken have an advance obituary ready for H. Ramis?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:45pm Jeff Golick:

@Gary: A classic, to be sure.

@Robert: hello, and welcome.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:47pm pacific standard simon:

good guys -- nice to catch up w/you. i should get the flu more often…
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:54pm Jeff Golick:

Was that a request for Yackety Sax I just heard?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:54pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey flu, leave Toby be. Shoobedoobe! Hey Toby!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:55pm Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Shall you announce the incoming pledges or would you like me to?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 12:55pm pacific standard simon:

OK, there we go -- first of many. All GTDR DJs may approach me with hands out.

DJ Gary of Bodega Pop Live has blown in with a blustery pledge of wonder! THANK YOU Gary. (He is not eligible for prizes, so everyone else in the world's chances are still just as great.)
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:26pm Gary:

Do I get a heart yet?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:27pm pacific standard simon:

I need to put up a thingie on my Tumblr.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:27pm pacific standard simon:

You're ALL heart, Gary.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:28pm Doug Schulkind:

@Listener James from Westwood

Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:46pm Brian in UK:

Hello gents, heads down & running. It's a marathon not a sprint.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:46pm Doug Schulkind:

This is the edition of Black Music I have treasured since high school: jazzfirstbooks.com...
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:47pm earrie:

Hi Jeff - happy marathon to you. Happy to be (I think?) a first-year listener to this show. My lazy mouse-sprinting pledge belongs here, too.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:48pm Jeff Golick:

Chris McGregor on the hi-fi and who should appear...? Brian!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 1:59pm Doug Schulkind:

Here's a look at D:O Radio's 2014 marathon premium: www.wfmu.org...

Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:02pm Gary:

So thrilled about this premium, Jeff
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Warren Smith's brother used to be in a collective gallery with, among other people in the universe, my mother.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks to Brian in UK!!!! Brian says, and I quote:

"Great work Jeff. This is just the small bowl of olives before the starters appear. Lovin' it."
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:04pm Brian in UK:

TER-RE-YAY REEP-DAHL. Is that right, Hugo?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:06pm Brian in UK:

I remember his 'After the Rain' from back in the Seventies. Still on ECM.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:06pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Brian, for the pledge + pronunciation combo!

@Gary: yay!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Give the Drummer Radio's Norwegian correspondent would pronounce it "TER-yeh," I believe.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:08pm Brian in UK:

Like George Bush pronounces terror. Tur.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:10pm earrie:

Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:12pm Jeff Golick:

I love how new instruments keep cropping up as this track rolls on.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:12pm listener james from westwood:

woo-hoo! thanks, brian!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:13pm pacific standard simon:

Sorta like Bonzo Dog Band, eh?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Help D:O Radio reach its goal for this shift. If three people pledged to get the D:O Radio premium, that would DO IT!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:15pm Gary:

Do you know what I love? Every time I listen to a show on this stream I have to Google 1/3 to half of all of the artists.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:15pm Gary:

That guy was awesome
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:16pm Brian in UK:

Gary, that applies to your show too, brother.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:18pm pacific standard simon:

I doing BOTH of those things, Jeff.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:19pm pacific standard simon:

At the same time!
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:20pm pacific standard simon:

Total WFMU slut, spreadin' it all over town.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:21pm Jeff Golick:

I believe if we reach the 50% level, the cow on the pledge banner to the left delivers milk to your door. Or something like that. [EDITED FOR SENSE.]
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:21pm Jeff Golick:

@pss: Thanks for NOT keeping it in your pants.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:25pm Jeff Golick:

@Gary: What Brian said! The irony (if that's what it is) is that my WFMU/GTDR listening has led to more new music purchases than perhaps any other source (other than my D:O bro, Jeff J.).
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:28pm Uncle Michael:

The only downside to my joining GDTR/WFMU is that I no longer have GTDR/WFMU as a place to steal ideas from.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:28pm pacific standard simon:

What pants?
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:28pm northguineahills:

Back where I was last year, w/o a paycheck. Then, I promised I'd give heavily once gainfully employed again, and that worked, as I started work in the summer and had some savings come time for the fall marathon. Of course, hopefully we won't need a fall marathon. (and I'll still give none-the-less).
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:28pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:50pm doca:

Jeff, I wish I could pledge too to your show. It always reminds of me of the fabulous music I grew in love with a few years ago and how it still sounds fabulous. Money's short, but I hope next year I'll be able to come with a dog tail moving and cow mooing pledge over here
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:51pm Jeff Golick:

I appreciate your presence alone, doca! Thanks for the kind words.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:51pm doca:

Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:54pm northguineahills:

Nice Ribot, haven't heard that one.

After I conjure up my rent, I might be able to do $15 next week.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 2:55pm Doug Schulkind:

Still not one pledge of $75 or more to get the D:O Radio premium. And what an amazing collection it is. If you make that pledge, you will be in the running to win the GRAND PRIZE.

Loved the show today, Jeff.
Avatar Mon. 2/24/14 3:02pm listener james from westwood:
