so mild here in the NW this winter. Not to gloat. We're way below in rainfall and no snow pack on the mountains means drought-like conditions this spring and summer

England a recent prog discovery for me when I got hold of a Dawn label anthology that had them and Stray, Jonesy and Mungo Jerry featured.

The Bonniwell Music Machine (2CD) - Tony are you buying into this Warner Bros reissue of the 1st album plus many rarities that we are promised will be something special?
I know you are a big fan of them having heard them on your previous shows.

Hi, Tony! Tuning in a bit late, looks like I missed some goodies!
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 12:50pm Tony Coulter:

Didn't know of that release, ? But now that I do, I'm definitely interested. I am indeed a big fan.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 12:50pm Rich in Washington:

For a second, I thought my player slipped and went onto the next stream URL in my stream playlist. It sounded like UBUWeb's stream for a moment.
Actually happens quite a bit.

Now with this deluxe 2CD expanded reissue, the original album is augmented by further non-LP single sides and outtakes, and a whole second disc of vintage Music Machine rarities, drawn from the untapped tape collection of the late Sean Bonniwell.

While the improved sound quality of the Warner Brothers sides supersedes previous reissues of this material, it is the unissued material that will surprise and delight Music Machine fans, featuring as it does a rash of previously unknown songs. Many of these are heard as Bonniwell’s home demos, acoustic in nature but captivating nonetheless.

The original band’s first recordings (as the Ragamuffins), along with unreleased studio and rehearsal takes by the second line-up, and a jam-packed, detail-filled booklet, all contribute to making Big Beat’s The Bonniwell Music Machine an exhaustive and definitive celebration of the Music Machine, truly a band amongst bands.

First floor apartment won't do for window pitchin'. I'd have to wait for a trip someplace like Kansas City, where they went and built a skycraper seven stories high, about as high as a buildin' orta grow.

At some point the computers are going to figure out that they don't need us anymore.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 1:39pm Tony Coulter:

I think the ultimate goal for MACs is to have a computer that's so slim and streamlined that it's just a piece of paper with the word "MAC" written on it.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 1:41pm Rich in Washington:

the first ever blues thing I ever bought as a teenager was an Elmore James compilation. I think it was a put out by some cheapo company. When I listened to a superior reissue years later, it seems like the comp I originally had had some kind of flanging or delay to simulate stereo, or something. It sounds really weird compared to what I assume are more honest remasters.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 1:43pm Rich in Washington:

I think you're onto something, Tony.
I think Mac's plan is to just sell you a piece of paper that says New Mac on it and brainwashed people will believe it - shades of Ragle Gumm in Philip K. Dick's Time Out Of Joint.

I don't. My movie-acquisition system is extremely peculiar.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:32pm Tony Coulter:

Basically, it consists of buying second-hand VHS tapes for 50 cents to a dollar.
  Tue. 1/28/14 2:33pm Sam:

Nice.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:34pm Jeremy N:

Are there any liquidation warehouses out in Portland like that one that used to be on 23rd St?
  Tue. 1/28/14 2:34pm Sam:

I still prefer VHS to anything else. When you're too drunk to keep paying attention, just hit the power button. The next day the movie will pick up right where you stopped, without any searching around or navigating through menus!
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:36pm Uncle Michael:

I can't believe the way work has been cutting into my slack.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:36pm Tony Coulter:

@ Jeremy: Sort of. There is a store with a huge stock of 75 cent videos -- but they're used, not new.

I found some great stuff at that NYC liquidators you speak of (including rare vinyl).
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:36pm Rich in Washington:

That's true, Sam! I still have a ton of VHS tapes - many of them things recorded in the 80s, relatively irreplaceable.
  Tue. 1/28/14 2:37pm Sam:

It's fun when you have the 80's commercials still in there too.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:37pm Rich in Washington:

The VHS piles at Everyday Music used to be pretty good, but haven't set foot in either of their stores in at least two years.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:38pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya Uncle Michael! Put a bandaid on that slack. Don't want that cut to get infected.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:38pm Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: EM on Sandy is still good for VHS.
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:38pm Jeremy N:

I'm sure you did! There wasn't much vinyl there whenever I went but I found boxes of Ramones and Stooges CDs for 50c apiece, and a great Marantz cassette recorder (fell off a truck?)
Avatar Tue. 1/28/14 2:45pm Tony Coulter:

As I remember it, what kickstarted FMU's one-time mail-order catalog was the fact that that liquidators had boxes and boxes of mega-cheap Perrey & Kingsley CDs.

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
Friends, I will be revving up the molten smelter known as Give the Drummer Some this evening on the Stream. At 6pm, my radio show will spend an hour celebrating the music of brilliant Dutch cellist Ernst Reijseger.

Folllowing my show, Jesse Kaminsky will take over the Stream with two more hours of live radio as he broadcasts Kaminsky Kamoutsky live from Providence, Rhode Island.

Just thought you should know...

@ Doug: Nice! Perhaps somewhat oddly, the very first guest I ever had on a radio show of mine (on WKCR) was Ernst Reijseger.

Just reading about Perry in a newish book about electronic instruments called Sound of Tomorrow. Did I mention that I found a couple of acetates of his Ondioline demos at the WFMU record fair a few years back?

I think you did mention those demos! Amazing find.

I wish Kubrick had used I Recidivi for the silly orgy house scenes in Eyes Wide Shut.
