West Philadelphia Orchestra at Golden Fest 2012

It's our sixth annual live broadcast from Brooklyn's legendary Balkan and East European music and dance blowout! Golden Fest is a massive two night gathering of musicians, folk dance enthusiasts and fans held at the spectacular Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn's South Slope.

It's a two night affair - tonight is the second night - at the spectacular Grand Prospect Hall, 263 Prospect Ave, South Slope, Brooklyn.

We'll bring you the action live from 6-9 pm at the Grand Ballroom stage, one of four stages with dozens of bands playing from 6 pm until 2 am.

Tickets, available at the door, include a fabulous Balkan / Mediterranean buffet dinner home-made on-site. (Beer is extra - but they usually have great East European dark beer!)

Over sixty bands will play on the four festival stages - Grand Ballroom, Chopin Room, Atrium and Rainbow Room - but the bands playing at the Grand Ballroom during the broadcast are:

6:00 pm: Čoček Nation: Youth ensemble originating at the East Coast Balkan Music & Dance Workshops (www.eefc.org), plays mixed Balkan repertoire. Superstars of the future! Featuring Ella Fine, Elizabeth Dargie, Stacey Anne Sternberg, Aaron Kisslinger, Robby Jenkins, Felicia Goldberg, Sophie Kropf, Peter Sieck, Zuvuya Talley, Arianna Harris, Becki Marcus, Joseph Benomar, Don Godwin, Emily Geller, Sarah Ferholt, Kat Harris, Dalia Kropf, Nathan Wolman, Katy Tanzer, Jesse Sheare.

6:30 pm: Mary and Bill: Greek and Macedonian via California featuring Mary Farris, Bill Cope, Polly Ferber

6:45 pm: Rakiya: Electric Rom via Boston featuring Dean Brown, Heather Lee, Colin Ferguson, Alan Mattes, Tim McNerney, Grant Smith

7:20 pm: Tipsy Oxcart: Electric, sweaty, bumpin’ Balkan music, channeling the spirit of 36 hour weddings to keep the crowds dancing. Originals and fresh, upbeat arrangements of urban dance tunes. Featuring Jeremy Bloom, Connell Thompson, Maya Shanker, Ayal Tsubery, Dani Danor

7:45 pm: Gogofski: Real Balkan. Heavily Macedonian. Lesno, chocek, devetorka, beranche, pajdushko, pravo. Featuring Kasia Sokalla, David Golber, Ken Hiatt, Henry Goldberg

8:20 pm: Merita Halili and Raif Hyseni Orchestra Traditional music from Albania and Kosovo. Featuring: Merita Halili, Raif Hyseni, Adrian Arsllani, Jessie Kotansky, Michael Ginsburg, Sevim Umer, Mirgjen Darova

Marc, evidence of some drop-outs on our end; we'll see what we can do if they persist - thanks for the heads-up...
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

When the cut-outs happen (every few minutes), some slide guitar music comes on.
Avatar 8:09pm Nigh:

Looks like the slide guitar guy is trying to steal the show.
Avatar 8:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...very nice Hawaiian slide - if a bit incongruous...guess technical difficulties proves it's real !...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Rob W:

Apologies for all the drop-outs - our hookup was better in past years. We'll swap in clean audio for the archive sometime soon.
Avatar 9:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...stuff happens on expeditions...this is a very happening performance...
  6:53pm Mitten John:

Thanks for repairing the archive, Rob. I listened to the whole show live, too--reminded me a bit of a play I saw years ago, 'Copenhagen', which would progress for a while then go back to the beginning and progress again, but in a different way. Good play, and good radio in my book!
  3:41pm mkb:

Thanks for the link. It'll help thaw out some very cold dancers in Maine this weekend!
