A floppy eared puppy of a New Year to you, Amanda. With much numnums!

Happy New Year, Amanda, Doug, Fred, and everyone else out there...

...uh - what Doug said...

Numnums to all!

Where's Danne D? I know he'd better enjoy the Bengals playoff ride while it lasts, but I'm getting worried...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:08pm fred:

@RRN63: I was talking about Dartmouth with a coworker yesterday. Looks pretty dead if you're over 21 and don't have children. That's close to you I think?
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:09pm fred:

Amanda, I LOVE this record (last splash), and this song.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yes, a town over.
...Northernmost outpost of Ivy League, I think you could say
...pretty square compared to UCSB - as I lived out there several years...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:11pm Amanda:

Cool, fred, glad you enjoy! A bit of an obvious choice, but sometimes that's OK.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...good to hear Kim do it - in light of news that firing Kims from the Pixies has become the trend to larf @...

...still, far better to have a collegetown ( - & its' hospital) around than not - don't get me wrong...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:16pm fred:

@Amanda: Yeah, but I haven't listened to it in years. Time to break that streak. I don't mind the obvious, I have no shame, I'll even say I'm a Juliana Hatfield fan
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:17pm Amanda:

Me too!
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...like Juliana fine...(do of course have Y chromosomes)...

@RRN63: There's a black one who should watch out before the joke's on him. It might be too late for that
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...to be frank nudge nudge...only know I watched The Pixies on Austin City Limits & was (@ that time) quite jealous of everybody there...

HAPPY NEW YEAR AMANDA!
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:23pm Amanda:

Ugh... not so loud... (j/k :-))
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:26pm fred:

I have the most shameful story to share about the Pixies. It was in the late 80's, a friend asked me to go with him to a Pixies show, he had a backstage pass, and I declined because I didn't know that band. I have a sore ass from kicking myself over it for two decades and counting
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- part of what drives you to be so Knowledgeable now fred - ??

♫ For she's a jolly good deejay, for she's a jolly good deejay! ♬
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:33pm fred:

Quite the opposite RRN63, it's what drives me to acknowledge I know nothing and go to shows I know nothing about, provided I can afford it. A bar that's sadly lowering, not because I earn less, but because there's been a crackdown on live music in Paris, outside of overpriced venues
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...you wouldn't want Paris to become known for it's Culture - they'd never leave you alone...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:35pm Uncle Michael:

Happy new year, Amanda. Happy new year, all of you.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:37pm Uncle Michael:

New Years Day with Amanda...best case Scenario.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- noirce UM.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:39pm listener james from westwood:

never been one for massive crowds like times square, vegas, etc., for NYE or other celebrations. i've preferred simpler new year's gatherings last decade or so. seeing friends and knowing we all made it through the year. board games, shooting the shit, a token ball drop viewing, and then back to the game.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:40pm fred:

@RRN63: I think it's the same problem as in NYC. Those hipsters want to move in to lively places, then they breed and want quiet, they have daddy call the riot cops to beat up those made these places lively to begin with. Sad, disgusting, true.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:40pm Uncle Michael:

Amanda, only you would treat me to a forgotten, inadequately-considered-in-its-time April Wine track. Thank you.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'friday I'm in love' - oh - oops...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:42pm Uncle Michael:

There's no cure, Rev.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...should be a nice French word for it fred - would 'bourgeois' do - ??...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:43pm Amanda:

How sweet, UM! You are welcome.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:43pm Parq:

Happy 2014, 'Manda. For once, I get to listen to your show from home. From the VP to Graham P must have been quite a seg.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:44pm fred:

@RRN63: "Bobo" is supposed to be the word for it "Bourgeois Boheme". Doesn't blunt the truncheon thing
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- excellent fred - @ least we have good words (if no Music & Culture)...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:47pm Parq:

Fred, the preppie kids have done even worse. At least the hipster kids aren't demanding more Starbucks, 711 and Barnes and Noble so their new city home will be more like their memories of home in suburbia. Then they move back to suburbia, leaving the rest of us to live in exactly the sort of mall sprawl we came to the city to escape.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:47pm Uncle Michael:

If anyone was ever born to be bobo, 'tis I.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Silkworm likes Husker Du as much as I ??...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...liked...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:49pm Amanda:

@Parq, maybe it was a good seg, I've blotted out all memory of it
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:52pm Matt F:

Somehow I am awake and listening to your god damn show.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:52pm Amanda:

Shut
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:53pm fred:

@Parq: Looks like Dante would know what to write about purgatory now. Not hot enough to be hell, though it doesn't feel better
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Stipe is unequivocally an important Artist to me...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:56pm fred:

@RRN63: to me too
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:58pm Uncle Michael:

I skank, therefore I am.
Avatar Wed. 1/1/14 12:58pm glenn:

oh man. i missed april wine.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 12:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...R.E.M. not quite the fashionable Alternative act that became successful to bash as U2 - but you can see it from there
- whereas I was watching a video of an arena-sized show of REM's & thinking - this is where so much comes together - Byrds, Velvets - nice job !...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:00pm Parq:

I kinda think that what pushed anti-U2 sentiment over the top was Bono's unabashed histrionics on and off the stage. Stipe has spared us that.
Avatar Wed. 1/1/14 1:01pm glenn:

also, he's just a dick.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:01pm fred:

Well, I acknowledged liking Micheal Stipe and Juliana Hatfield, so I might as well confess to being born in the early 70s
@RRN63: U2 and REM were totally different. U2 were over the top, REM were overwhelmed
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- the real UK analog to REM is probably The Smiths.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:02pm fred:

Morrisey is closer to Bono than to Stipe
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- solo Morrisey seems...different...
Avatar Wed. 1/1/14 1:05pm glenn:

the smiths are just as much about johnny marr as they are about morrissey.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & it *is* hard not to be Overwhelmed once you reach the Top40 Arena-filling level...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:07pm fred:

Bono is to rock what William Shatner is to acting. Morrisey is a soggy second-hand Cliff Notes to an Oscar Wilde for high-schoolers anthology.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...nothing to add !...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:09pm Parq:

Well said, Fred.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:11pm Matt F:

The fake love in this room is palpable.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:14pm listener james from westwood:

our first singalong of 2014!!
Avatar Wed. 1/1/14 1:14pm Kurt Vonnegut:

please, a little less love, and a little more common decency.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:14pm Parq:

Amazing how Coca Cola has occupied the high ground of American pop culture. Not only was that rewrite of the commercial a huge hit, but their images of Santa Claus appear in more retro sources that Nast's, and that commercial with the football player was as big a hit as I Love Lucy.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:15pm fred:

Why sing along when you have Amanda's voice? (I don't)
Avatar Wed. 1/1/14 1:18pm earrie:

@parq In 'paid-for' pop culture. The forced-feeding side of pop.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...that StrawAlarm was half Cowsills half Nazz...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- What do you call that haircut?
- Arthur (Lee) !...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...was it Coke or Pepsi that set Jacko's hair on fire?...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- oh - Uncle Michael : Thx to Psychedelicised Radio for playing the NYE Fillmore Band of Gypsies & Mountain last night ! Much appreciated ! Noirce !

Happy New Year Amanda and everyone!
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:34pm fred:

@RRN63: we all know nothing tops WFMU, your forays into alien radio landscapes are welcome, just in case there could be something better out there. I didn't think so
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:36pm Amanda:

Haha, RR, I see what you did there.

Hiii ndbob!

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO PROGRAMMING ALERT...
Allow the planet to rotate on its axis just a wee bit more (15 minutes) and then BLAMMO! Ken's Last Ever Radio Extravaganza will takeover the Drummer Stream for two more hours of extremely live radio. You can continue to kinship and camaraderie over here on Kenzo's playlist page: wfmu.org...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:45pm fred:

@RRN63: is there any classical music scene near Dartmouth? I'm asking for a coworker who's a cello player and won't stand any music less than a few centuries old. She had an offer at Dartmouth and was worried about the landscape.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:47pm fred:

@Amanda: I like Liz Phair too, but please play Juliana Hatfield sometime, maybe
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- uh - it ain't any kind of City w/ a weekly Symphony...I'm sure websearching Dartmouth would be more accurate than I can be...I wouldn't count on too much of anything in smalltown North New England...
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- fred: You could show her this:
hop.dartmouth.edu...
Avatar Wed. 1/1/14 1:56pm Doug Schulkind:

Amanda, by spelling AUM with all caps, you have just earned the undying appreciation of label founder Steven Joerg, who cares deeply that it be presented as so. My HATs off to you.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:57pm Amanda:

But of course! Hats off to the details! Thanks Doug :-)
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:57pm fred:

@RRN63: the reason I asked you was for what wouldn't show up on google. Nevermind, if I haven't said so already, I wish you a happy new year, with "you" as specifically you and not a generic placeholder. I don't speak for the station, but for myself, I'm really happy you joined our dysfunctional community. I think we're better with you around. I'm happy to have "met" you, however virtually
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 1:59pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!

thanks most kindly, amanda!

Thank YOU all... let's make '14 a better one even than '13.
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 2:01pm Amanda:

(It is OK for me to go late, right? As Kenzo is coming on at 2:15?)
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 2:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

fred: If I bump into anyone I think could speak to the 'Classical scene' around here, I'll try & connect the dots...
  Wed. 1/1/14 2:04pm Kenzo:

Did you release? I was coming on at 2pm sharp!
  Wed. 1/1/14 2:05pm Kenzo:

Amanda, let me know what the plan is. My show has begun on the WTJU side, just waiting to get in on WFMU.
Avatar Wed. 1/1/14 2:05pm Doug Schulkind:

Not sure about the 2:15 start. Did Kenzo contact you?
  Wed. 1/1/14 2:06pm Kenzo:

I had no 2:15 plan at any point. It was a rogue Amanda fan!
Avatar    Wed. 1/1/14 2:08pm Amanda:

OMG!!!! I'm so so sorry, I misread Doug's comment above.
