That sounded like an unknown single from Margo Guryan ...
... never would guess for Francoise ...
... surprise surprise.

Hi out there!

Hello All!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:07pm tim from champaign:

Howdy Duane and maniac Duaniacs!

Nice Neil Young cover. Although it's a bit drippy, Helpless is one my my favorite Neil songs. There's a Nick Cave and Bad Seeds cover of it that's solid.
Wed. 12/18/13 12:08pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

This so weird Duane, I went on an Ivy binge over this past weekend...

Hi Jan. TFC..all the rest of the lurkers.
Jan: Funny, I was cleaning and dug out the ivy record too..the production is immaculate
Steve: What's up???
Happy Holidayzed
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:14pm Jeezy:

Wow, very cool Turtle track.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:26pm robyn:

happy holidays everyone
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:27pm Duane:

Robyn!! Happy holidayze to you as well
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:40pm robyn:

thanks! finally shipped everything today. ready to kick back and relax and enjoy the season.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:41pm Andrew Waterloo:

Pitchfork.. ha ha ha
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:43pm robyn:

Pitchfork writing sometimes falls into the trap of "Artist X usually does this, but now they do THAT!" Just not very interesting to read. And not a lot of connection to the music.
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 12:46pm common:

that's funny you're talking about the pitchfork list. my co-worker just came in and told me my friend's band was on it. good for them.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:46pm Duane:

common: Yeah that's great:) I had no real problem with the choices, just the writing..Yikes!!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:47pm tim from champaign:

I quit reading pitchfork about 10 years ago because of the frustrating quality of its writing. They would pan things I thought were good and champion music that I thought to be terrible. That's fine but the explanations of why rarely held water. Too bad the critical thought didn't grow as the site grew.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:48pm robyn:

"james blake and is in love and it's complicated. Oh and 'Retrogade' is a song."
  Wed. 12/18/13 12:48pm KRYPT:

Hi Duane, cool as ever, nice to hear Turtle getting rinsed, you will come to Glasgow one day, I insist upon it :)
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 12:48pm common:

duane: i've never looked at pitchfork, but i believe you!
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 12:49pm steve:

i have a brief best of list:

best album or collection / only record to make me break down in tears - DJ Sprinkles - Queerifications and Ruins
best podcast - Nicky Siano
best artist i've still never heard on FMU - Pye Corner Audio
best return to the FMU schedule - $mall ¢hange
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:50pm Duane:

Krypt: Thanx I really think that Turtle ep is fantastick. I'm sure I'll make it to Glasgow in '14!!!
  Wed. 12/18/13 12:50pm KRYPT:

Yay!
  Wed. 12/18/13 12:51pm Eli:

Good morning D and the Duaneiacs!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:52pm tim from champaign:

I also agree with Duane in that I think it's totally cool for poeople to dig Beyonce or Drake but why does Pitchfork promote it? If you like MacDonods that's cool but does it's new sandwich need a review?
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:52pm Duane:

Eli!!! What's the haps?
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:53pm Andrew Waterloo:

Pitchfork just seems overly occupied with being ahead of cool.
  Wed. 12/18/13 12:54pm Eli:

Just hapsin' D! What was the song just before aphrodite's child? Didn't come up and loved it. No place in the city for me...
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 12:57pm steve:

tim - someone needs to start a blog where they critique sandwiches in the Pitchfork writing style. "The McRib is in danger of becoming irrelevant."
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:58pm Duane:

Oh that's Saadi. Great new 7' Eli
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 12:59pm Andrew Waterloo:

I just remember the last Pitchfork review I read being so heavily focused on how the keyboard sounded that it really didn't mention that it was a review for a fairly generic indie rock band.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:00pm tim from champaign:

Good idea, steve. One could go to town on the shamrock shake.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:00pm Duane:

AWaterloo: YES! That's there approach to criticism in general these days..it's so annoying
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:02pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Duane, It's a bit of the deifying thing that made classic rock commentary intolerable.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:03pm kwhitehead:

steve: I think the sandwich reviews would be great written in the Dusty Groove style as well. This tuna salad is "tripped out, funky genius..."
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:03pm mauri:

middleman you dont need. one knows what music to like or not.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:10pm Duane:

kwhitehead: HAHAHA

Congrats Doca!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:35pm doca:

Brazil's very generous with its graduate students, thanks to a very unequal country eheh

@steve: I've graduated in history and I study historiography, the study of the history of historical writing, its elements (like the concepts of proof, document, time etc). Now I'm gonna start a research on a sixteenth-century portuguese antiquarian called André de Resende
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:37pm doca:

@Guido: thanks! I didnt forget the blog, but I hadn't time in the last week to go back to it and accept your comment. I'll do it soon!
  Wed. 12/18/13 1:39pm van:

very nice, thanks Duane
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 1:40pm Guido (Cologne):

It's good to hear, you're back with good news.

I made a little bit of "promotion" for your blog on facebook.
Hope you'll gather enaugh readers in order to make all the work worthwhile.
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 1:45pm steve:

thats super exciting doca, congrats
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 1:46pm Mike East:

LOVE this Frankie and the Classicals song. Thanks, Duane
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 1:49pm doca:

@Guido: I didn't know it! Surely having more readers help a little bit, but I was already surprised and overjoyed when I saw your comment. I didn't know that that saying about water and persistence went back to classical sources. Shame on me that I'm a historian
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 1:52pm steve:

its gonna rain!
  Wed. 12/18/13 2:01pm van:

Wow, sounded like Maureen McGovern crossed with Karen Carpenter there for a minute
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 2:03pm Guido (Cologne):

Well , that saying is VERY common in Germany. Maybe because we Germans are so serious about reliability and persistance. Kind of mentality. Even Bert Brecht used this motiv somewehre in a ballad (something about Tao-te-King ... dunno why).
  Wed. 12/18/13 2:05pm M:

Weirdly, has similar tenor to McArthur Park, perhaps the orchestration
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:07pm nycbone:

Very professional crossfades Duanne!
It's like one continuing song!
Just impressed!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:11pm Duane:

Thank you Guido!!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:11pm doca:

@Guido: I thought it was only used in Brazil, but it's cool to see the same saying traveling in time and space.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:14pm northguineahills:

For some reason I really like where this set is going... maybe it's the non-wintery sounds....
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:15pm doca:

Anyway, thanks for your support guys and girls, gonna check the game on TV now. Thanks once again for the show, Duane!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:16pm luca:

@doca: how's that saying? (re water)
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:17pm dale:

been listening in the car. the music made it the coolest minivan in town.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:19pm doca:

@luca: water dripping day by day wears even the hardest rock away. I've never seen it in English, but that translation (not mine) is very good, so I guess it is used. In Portuguese it is "Água mole em pedra dura tanto bate até que fura"
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 2:20pm Guido (Cologne):

Ῥανὶς ἐνδελεχοῦσα κοιλαίνει πέτραν
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:21pm tim from champaign:

Congrats on your pursuit of scholarly endeavors, doca!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:23pm doca:

what's your greek source, Guido?
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:24pm tim from champaign:

Broadcast are a special band. It's still a bummer thinking about that there will not be new music from them.
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 2:25pm Guido (Cologne):

Very banal source: German Wikipedia ... I'm not familiar with Greek in fact.
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:25pm Duane:

I agree Tim!
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:27pm doca:

@Tim: thanks! And I agree on Broadcast...
@Guido: haha I'll check out the writer who said it
  Wed. 12/18/13 2:27pm Comma:

You agree Tim?
Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:27pm von Ranke:

@Doca: To the archives! (the historical ones; yes, the musical ones are recommended, too)
Avatar    Wed. 12/18/13 2:30pm Guido (Cologne):

Avatar Wed. 12/18/13 2:30pm tim from champaign:
