Avatar    Thu. 12/5/13 9:52am Joe McG:

@Ken: It's a shame they never did a version of "The Logical Song."
  Thu. 12/5/13 9:53am P-90:

That did sound like the Wurlitzer that was recognizable on Supertramps's albums. A distinct difference from the more common Fender piano sound. So it would have been logical for them to cover The Logical Song.

I also had to look up the history of the name Haircut 100, here's what I found online from some random site:

"i saw in VH1's bands reunited that they got this name by just sitting down in the kitchen and thinking of the stupidest name they could possibly think of. Haircut 100 was the one they laughed at the most, so that was their band name"

Actually, the French always sounded pretty good to me, and something I don't think Gabriel would let slip by on an important track, he's an English dude who probably had about 10 years of elementary school French. But, the way they sing the refrain, "Jeux" does sound a lot like "she's" or "shears"or "jeers"

Avatar    Thu. 12/5/13 10:47am tim from champaign:

What did you guys think of the first Hobbit installment from last year? I thought there was too much CGI razzle dazzle. Enough so that I'm not interested in seeing the one coming out this month.

As far as I know he was more an arranger than a technican, thus letting young Rockers (Zappa, Velvets) do what they want to do in the studio, occasionally showing up in order to introduce his latest party-chicks, so to say.

@listener James: Thanks. As good a choice as any, I suppose. I'd rather they had Christopher Lee read those lines. I have a longtime acquaintance with Mr. Lee, who thought my comment about LOTR was interesting: that shooting the movies in all those picturesque New Zealand locations with such a mixed-nationality cast kinda sucked a certain "Englishness" out of the story. The Hobbit is even more a story inspired by the English woods and English culture than LOTR, so I'm in no rush to be dissapointed by it too.

@listener James: One doesn't preclude the other, remember John Rhs-Davies played Gimli the Dwarf Dude and also did the voice of Treebeard...a CG character like Smaug. Chris Lee could easily have done both, and he's a lifetime Tolkein freak, he has read all the books once a year since shortly after they were published, and corresponded with Tolkein about the mythical and dramatic content of the story. There's a particular photo of Townshend standing in front of a Chinese Resturant slanting his eyes that represents that for me...even Python in the later 60s...My understanding is 'Me & My Monkey' was an answer to the Brit Press that called Yoko that - & is a hilarious great masturbation song...
