A reflexive, traveling radio production. Each show is spontaneous as a backroom deal, a different guest a different location every week. Two hours of trading records with friends, programming without a prepared playlist. Actually, it goes like this: Jesse Kaminsky travels around Providence and the world with a portable radio show, visits a different person every week and makes spontaneous musical exchanges. We agree to call it radio.

Tuesdays 7 - 10pm (EST) (Web-only) | On WFMU's Give the Drummer Radio

Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:20pm Holly in NC:

OK, my other favorite Junior Murvin song..
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:25pm Jesse K:

@Holly, I lucked out in selections tonight I guess, though they're all pretty top notch in my book
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:27pm Holly in NC:

FYI "Spirituous liquor is not permitted at the McCown-Mangum House", sayth the City of Durham. I might make 'Spirituous Liquor' my mantra, what a cool phrase.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Dol-phy! Dol-phy!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:28pm pacific standard simon:

"Spirituous spirit" is my new mantra.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:30pm glenn:

uh, what other kinds of liquor are there, city of durham? is the department of redundancy department working overtime?
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:32pm northguineahills:

Cherio, Jesse!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:32pm Jesse K:

take care there NGH!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:35pm pacific standard simon:

Pot liquor is the water you boil or steam vegetables in.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:37pm pacific standard simon:

If you're going to make a smoothie, you should save your pot liquor in the fridge.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:37pm Holly in NC:

@glenn - context:

1. "Alcoholic Beverage" is defined as champagne, beer, wine (fortified and unfortified) or spirituous liquor.

I love pot liquor (likker) almost more than spirituous liquor. Makes boiling greens worthwhile.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:38pm Adam Oelsner:

"Take the Gun, Leave the Cannoli?"
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:42pm pacific standard simon:

When I was a kid, I could eat boiled spinach all day. With a shaker of vinegar on the side.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:44pm Gary:

Oh, shoot -- I have a whole CD of Boney M + Abba covers by a Vietnamese band I picked up in Dallas last year. I gotta dig it out now!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:47pm Jesse K:

yes Gary, you do gotta now, for the benefit of all humanity
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:48pm Gary:

I'm gonna! I'm super gonna!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:51pm glenn:

swiss chard. that is all.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:51pm Jesse K:

that is enough
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:52pm pacific standard simon:

Roast fish and corn bread.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:56pm Jesse K:

cornbread with sugar or no?
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 7:58pm Adam Oelsner:

sugar in the batter, or sprinkled on top?
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:04pm pacific standard simon:

No sugar (or very little) for supper corn. Breakfast corn is a different matter.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:05pm Gary:

= dancehall
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:07pm Jesse K:

Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:10pm Jesse K:

rats! I can get it on itunes, is it back for you now?
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:11pm Holly in NC:

Adapted Southerner so... Collards. Some kind of pork product. Hot peppers. Vinegar.

But born & bred Yankee so yellow cornbread, slightly sweet.

Popup is cool.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:11pm pacific standard simon:

Just had to restart my player, that's all.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:13pm Gary:

128 is working fine on my end ... and I'm happy to report that I FOUND THE PHU MAN CHU / DALENA / HENRY CHUC ABBA/BONEY M TRIBUTE ALBUM OMG!!!!<----------------[infinity]
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:14pm glenn:

sugary sweet? no. but a teaspoon or so of sugar definitely makes for a better rise in corn bread.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:14pm Jesse K:

that was fast, Gary! You must be much more organized than I am, living in boxes like I do
  Tue. 12/3/13 8:16pm sara:

hello. blue corn cornbread is ok. no need to add sugar for me. junior murvin sad news
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:17pm pacific standard simon:

Fresh stoneground yellow cornmeal, a little sweet corn puree, and unsalted butter will do ya.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:18pm pacific standard simon:

All things considered, though, I'd rather have corn tortillas and kimchi with my pork products.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:20pm Holly in NC:

@Gary - Speaking of fast, dang with the speediness of your Junior Murvin reup! :-)
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:20pm Jesse K:

@Holly, I went the other way but I'm spending some of the holidays up north this year so we'll see
@Simon, kimchi works pretty well on most things for me, used to eat it on peanut butter sandwiches
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:21pm Gary:

Well, Junior was on my computer, so that was easy. And, I dunno ... I don't want him to be dead!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:21pm Doug Schulkind:

Had some jalapeño cornbread a while back that was hottastic.
  Tue. 12/3/13 8:21pm sara:

i'd have all kimchi no pig
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:22pm fleep:

Ah, Providence. Gateway to Pawtucket.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:25pm listener james from westwood:

been reading through my pile of magazines that built up from the past couple of weeks of work and grooving on the show. reading these comments, i think i'm ready for a second dinner! might settle for a yogurt.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:25pm pacific standard simon:

@Jesse - After my own heart!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:26pm Jesse K:

I honestly can't wait for whatever this secret caucus is about
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:26pm pacific standard simon:

It's your holiday present.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:27pm glenn:

well, thanks for the inspiration. navy beans are going to be soaked, and tomorrow there will be baked beans and cornbread for dinner.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:29pm Holly in NC:

@Jesse - I. need. to. try. kimchee. on. pb. Maybe later tonight!
My fave pb sandwich (initial inspiration thanks to Sue Grafton's fictional Kinsey Malone) - buttered, toasted rye bread, creamy pb (warm & runny), thinly sliced cornichons omg . I'm not eating bread these days, oh, now so sad...

@Gary - you know my thoughts on the alt layout. BAD. Overtaxes my computer every time. Will only read blogs using that layout from the safety of a RSS reader, will never visit site.
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:29pm pacific standard simon:

I have to run along shortly to make Italian meatball soup with beans and pasta. Nummy!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:34pm Gary:

Don't worry, Holly -- that post was originally from a year or so ago. I took your words to heart and left it as is. ... and it will stay as is!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:35pm Jesse K:

@Holly, totally depends on the type of peanut butter and the type of kimchi, to a lesser extent on the bread I think
@Simon, sounds delicious, I'd use fake meatballs but I'm sure beans and pasta can't go wrong. now I'm hungry...
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:35pm Gary:

This song is awesome, BTW
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:42pm Jesse K:

love that record, I'm always surprised that it's from the 50's
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:46pm Holly in NC:

I love the Umberto bed music. So much so that I already have 3 copies of that song on my computer! Time for some cleaning..
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:48pm Jesse K:

hahaha! that's so funny, I love their first two albums, I'm not into their beverly hills cop stuff quite as much though
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:53pm Gary:

Here is the Vietnamese Boney M/Abba cover album if you want it, Jesse! www.adrive.com...
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:55pm Gary:

The woman on that album, Dalena Morton, is not Vietnamese, but sings Vietnamese songs (which she doesn't, reportedly, understand) ...
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:56pm Jesse K:

wow, nice, thanks Gary!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:57pm Gary:

Thank you for the awesome sets!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:59pm listener james from westwood:

thanks most kindly, jesse! good night, all!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 8:59pm pacific standard simon:

Soup's cookin'!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 9:00pm Holly in NC:

Super last set, Jesse - thank you!
Avatar Tue. 12/3/13 9:01pm Jesse K:
