I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 12:30pm boryalic:

My plants are all growing really fast at this moment. Does that mean they have gall stones?
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 12:32pm Bryce:

they should be okay as long as you feed them a well-rounded variety of small mammals
  Fri. 9/20/13 12:34pm jiim:

my roommate is dying for me to turn this off shes is more people sized but she is a mammal will she do?
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 12:40pm Loren:

"...my small mammals bring the plants to the yard, and they're like, "we're better for stones..."

dear lord... why?
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 12:40pm fred:

re Xtranormal: voice transformation software, and once in a while a demo of beat-detection software they never ended up buying.
  Fri. 9/20/13 12:41pm bill:

If she is small, then she is a small mammal.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 12:42pm Bryce:

ahhhh...they had some pretty excellently rendered accents!
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 12:43pm stefica:

ah, the sounds of sanity
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 12:43pm stefica:

or something
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 12:45pm fred:

I think the accents were recorded voices, that were then transformed for age/gender and some cartoonish effects. These transformations are what my boss does (I'm just technical help, not a researcher)
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 12:48pm Bryce:

oh, neat. there seemed to be so much organic variation in the speech. couldn't figure out how it could be just a straight-up synthesis.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 12:48pm Bryce:

hey, stef!

I'm driving to Acadia, Maine, then Nova Scotia for a few days in the near future. Any recommendations, anybody?

Ike:
Whoopie pies: harmful or fatal if swallowed.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:30pm Mike East:

Acadia national park is GORGEOUS! I'd spend a day or two there (though I'd imagine you already knew that).
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:31pm Cheri Pi:

space samosas & galaxy dahl are in my face now.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 1:33pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Also, Ike:
Geddy's is a seafood/bar place on the main strip in Bar Harbor: a bit of a tourist place (like much in BH) but they had the Cadillac Mtn. Stout on tap when I used to live in Bangor, several years ago. Worth it for the stout. It's effing brilliant.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:33pm stefica:

Ike, my recommendation is take more than a few days! Also, stay out of Bar Harbor (shudder). Acadia is wonderful and has great phone and internet access up on the Mt. Pemetic (weird). You should spend at least a week in Nova Scotia alone.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 1:34pm Bryce:

FLIPPER PIEEEEEEES - north america's shark fin soup :(
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:36pm common:

thanks fred - sorry, work got stupid. had to do some.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:36pm Sem Chumbo:

Ike: I live in NS. What is it you favour in a (first?) visit anywhere?
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:37pm Ike:

Stef, wish I could get more than a week off for this. Grrrrr. At least I'm flying back from Halifax (relatives have more time off & will drive car back) so the back end of the week will be maximized.

Is there a lot of cool stuff in Halifax?
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 1:38pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Thanks for the earworm, Ike.
(hampton grease band)
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:39pm Mike East:

@cheri pi - send some this way, please. do we have a comments board lazy susan?
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 1:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Brilliant B.Maximin piece, as well.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:40pm Sem Chumbo:

Halifax's alternative weekly answers your question about that: www.thecoast.ca
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:42pm Ike:

Sem, thanks! Any particularly good restaurants that don't cost an arm and 3 legs? Also I love hiking, but I'm w/relatives so really long hikes are nixed. We will prob. have more hiking options than we know what to do with.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:46pm Sem Chumbo:

Wooden Monkey downtown has a good vegetarian rep. Big fave for college students, five universities in the City, so there's that. Too bad about no long hikes, otherwise the ~1,75 hour to Cape Split would be a natural (wonder)...Google images for CAPE SPLIT TRAIL.
  Fri. 9/20/13 1:48pm nic:

yay john cage
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:48pm Ike:

1.75 hours? Maybe we can wrangle that. Thanks!
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:50pm Cheri Pi:

ME, my dahl wasn't spicy enough so I just added some dried ghohst chili powder and tabasco to brighten it up a little, hot damn.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:50pm Sem Chumbo:

Ike: to be clear, that's the time to get out there.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 1:51pm Bryce:

oh yeah, i forgot about that! did you ever git that noruga scorpion??
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:55pm stefica:

dunno about halifax. i drove the other direction around the lower island and into cape breton and even foolishly thought i had time to see newfoundland (didn't!) and by the time i got to halifax, i was not interested in being in a town. i stopped long enough to find a good bookstore and buy a good book. (The Diviners, Margaret Laurence).
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:57pm Cheri Pi:

No-the Scorpions aren't ready to pick yet, but I will get dat soon!
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 1:57pm Ike:

Heh, RTD@1:30, w.p., awful name for a foodstuff. Sounds like donkey butt. I hear 1 or 2 bakeries have nice, light, airy ones, but I'm not going outta my way. Also, 1 of my relatives might love that stout. Noted, thx.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:00pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

cool... I'd never really suggest that anyone venture into Bar Harbor, esp. during cruise-ship season, but if you happen to be there anyway (or whoever would dig the stout), etc. My favorite things about Maine were the total nowhere small towns, off-season. .
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:01pm Ike:

Cool. I'm guessing late Sept. is off season, right? Too early for leaf peepers, surely.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:01pm Carmichael:

Oh yeah, how's that ghost chili working out, Cheri?

This sounds like the Return of the Marble Blender.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:05pm northguineahills:

Road trip, Rev?
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:06pm Chris from DC:

I've wanted to go up to Cape Breton for a while.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:10pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Did André Breton wear a cape?
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:13pm Chris from DC:

Wait that's named after him? Cool.
  Fri. 9/20/13 2:21pm nic:

Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:24pm northguineahills:

@Jeff: or the Russian Kursk blowing it's load.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:32pm Cheri Pi:

fresh ghost pepper was made into chili, it wasn' that hot! I've been cooking with yellow cayenne and habs lately, but for some reason the leftover food is never that hot a day later. that's where ghostpepper powder comes back into play.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:34pm tim from champaign:

Was it a dud? That's weird that the heat mellows in the leftovers.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:36pm northguineahills:

Well, there must be a glitch in the matrix, Cheri Pi, or as tim said, it was a dud. Just put some ghost pepper sauce on my pizza before bed, and whoah... ganesh, that was a lot of fun (kept me up later then I expected.)
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:38pm common:

gotta try this ghost pepper. still wanna make the perfect hot sauce!
  Fri. 9/20/13 2:39pm joe voltage:

Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:41pm tim from champaign:

Someone needs to brew a habanero or ghost pepper stout. Or chocolate habanero or ghost pepper stout.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:42pm Bryce:

joe! how's it going?

hi, chris. i'd totally forgot about this cd! really nice, kind of infinite and intimate at the same time....
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:43pm northguineahills:

This sounds like Robert Youngs or Neil Campbell had something to do w/ it,
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:43pm tim from champaign:

Since we're on the subject of beersies now, I've got a sixer of Bell's Best Brown in the fridge. Best Brown is my favorite Bell's flagship beers. I was gonna save it for tomorrow but I think I'll bust into after work.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:44pm Cheri Pi:

My work husband has this theory that one ghost pepper is equal to 3 habaneros, so in a big pot of chili it got absorbed into too many chunks of veg, etc. probably could have used 3 ghosties.
  Fri. 9/20/13 2:45pm joe voltage:

Pretty good got out early. Was working close. You scope that parson's sound set yet?
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:46pm Cheri Pi:

last night mr. CP and I drank Bells Kalamoo stout, worthy of it's name
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:47pm Chris from DC:

NGH it's mainly Matthew Bower, right before Sunroof! started I think.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:47pm northguineahills:

Thanks Chris. I was close!
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:48pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:49pm Cheri Pi:

then we drank Founders Breakfast like there was no tomorrow.
Avatar Fri. 9/20/13 2:50pm tim from champaign:

I haven't tried Bell's Kalamazoo line yet. Nor have I tried any of this year's Cherry stout.

The dogish head sounds excellent, ngh.
Avatar    Fri. 9/20/13 2:52pm Cheri Pi:

So effin' glad it's Stout weather.

Avatar Sat. 9/21/13 6:40pm Droll:

I showed up late for my usual lurk during your show and there were so many comments about the Hecker track I knew I had to come back for it later.
It was totally worth it.
Like a genetically engineered Conet Project gone amok.
