...he is one observant & articulate bugger - wouldn't be shocked if he were on the autistic scale even - &/or brilliant character...

@RRN63: his wife is equally posh and sarcastic. They're a perfect fit for one another, but I suspect an argument in that house could go on for years, if need be.

If you check out the Richard Herring podcast, you can hear Stephen Fry do a pretty good impression of David Mitchell. And you can also find a David Mitchell interview too.

...I might possibly have some of that sort of Brit gene in me as well as being French anyhow...suffice to say though I been an Anglophile all my life - but was *never* interested in the Posh
...re Cleese; In Python there was a Cambridge-Oxford division...

- Cambridge: surrealist, dreamy, visual
- Oxford: professional, verbal, intellectual
...& an American Animator who got away w/ saying "You'll see what I mean when the film is ready"...

Always thought it was quirky that a lot of the top British comedians are of an Oxford/Cambridge background, contrast that with the US.

...the BritishInvasion *Musicians* were notably ArtSchool
- I guess the Intellectual element distinguished what we think of as BritCom; there's Vaudeville & Shakespeare & Mediaeval Festival & all sortsa things...Universities important in the U.S. too - but also nasty little Jazz clubs & things?...
- Seriously! - no Brian Jones - whadaya get? 'Exiles' sure - but not that...

...on subject of ArtSchool Brits
- seems to me in most of those bands you have one Member who :

- Named the Band
- Set the Style
- Lived for the Art Statement, not the Chart placings
- Lived in a manner that was mentally debilitating &/or fatal @ around 27
...Brian Wilson in the U.S. qualifies too...
Avatar Wed. 8/14/13 5:59pm Caryn:

@RRN63: to be fair, a lot of people feel the Oxford/Cambridge division is exactly the opposite: Oxford producing jolly, round, intelligent but fun types, while Cambridge produces tall, icy, sarcastic types. Terry Jones and Dudley Moore are Oxford, John Cleese and Peter Cook are Cambridge.

@RRN63: no deferring necessary :)
Stephen Fry wrote an interesting article on the topic, linking the differences between the Oxford and Cambridge types with the history of the two universities. Very interesting read.
