I'm first for once.
Beat that Brian from the UK!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:03pm fleep:

First is overrated.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:07pm Amanda:

To give credit where it's due, Listener James from Westwood is usually first! Hi fellas!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:10pm efd:

Fourth! (Or third, if you're not counting comments by the DJ)
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:11pm Doug Schulkind:

From Wikipedia:

"When he was fourteen, Bradley ran away from home due to his poor living conditions -- his bedroom was in a basement with a sand floor -- and lived on the streets during the day and slept nights in subway cars for two years. Later, he enlisted in Job Corps which eventually led him to Bar Harbor, Maine to train as a chef. One time while working, a co-worker told him he looked like James Brown. When asked if he could sing, he was at first shy but eventually admitted that he could. He overcame his stage fright (when a crew member pushed him through the curtains onto the stage) and performed five or six times with a band. After his band mates were drafted into the Vietnam War, the act never re-formed. Bradley worked in Maine as a cook for ten years until deciding to head west, hitchhiking across the country. He lived in upstate New York, Seattle, Canada and Alaska before settling in California in 1977. There, Bradley worked odd jobs and played small shows for 20 years."

Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:20pm Skirkie:

What up Nazarenes. I just got done listening to "Players' Worktime" not 20 minutes ago.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:22pm Amanda:

Funny, I just listened to that for the first time myself yesterday.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:22pm Danne D:

Skirkie! :D

Having tinnitus is like having a tape hiss background to your life!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:32pm Jeff Golick:

GTDR: home of the Monkees. Also: monkeys.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:34pm Doug Schulkind:

Can someone clear this up. Is it pronounced tin-EYE-tuss or, as I have been corrected, TIN-eh-tuss?
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:34pm Jeff Golick:

WHAT?
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:35pm Stanley:

What's that Doug speak up?
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:35pm OLD:

SHOUT IT INTO THE EAR HORN, SONNY.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:36pm Stanley:

We say TIN-eh-tuss over here but Gawd knows how you guys pronounce it over there!

I would rather have tin eye tuss than "tin ear" tuss. You knowmsayin

@Skirkie There are no words
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:44pm Skirkie:

Yeah we were at some joint later on that night and I noticed it just wasn't there anymore. It's on the ground in Newark or Kearny somewheres.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:46pm Uncle Michael:

Hello drummersomers.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:47pm Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda, and those with shall we say difficulties.

@Stanley, Matthew 20 verse 16.
Here is some pre reading if I may be so bold.

Must be honest Amanda, I am listening to The Good Doctor. Switching soon.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:53pm Danne D:

@Skirkie will be a fun discovery for someone I'm sure - assuming it's not in their hoagie or somethin'.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:53pm Amanda:

As long as you don't start hearing saxophone jazz in the middle of my heavy rock, I am fine with it.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:54pm listener james from westwood:

like some sort of musical reese's peanut butter cup ad.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 12:55pm Brian in UK:

@ Jeff Golick there is an interesting little piece at the end of this programme by Kevin Le Gendre, a respected jazz writer over here about cheap box sets, thought you might be interested. Go to 24:30.

Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:00pm Jeff Golick:

Did someone say something about jazz? My sax senses are tingling....
  Wed. 8/7/13 1:04pm BuckyKatt:

Man, you never know who's hanging out in these chat rooms during daytime (I'm looking at you, Danne D & @Skirkie). Don't you guys have jobs or something to do? ;-) I want to play those pottery crashes for my sister the pottery teacher-- she would no doubt freak out.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:06pm Uncle Michael:

Nice save, Amanda!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:07pm Jeff Golick:

Wooo!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:09pm Dominick:

Next 4 days at Lincoln Center promise to all be outstanding.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:10pm Brian in UK:

Who wrote Switchboard Susan?
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:13pm Brian in UK:

We are the Now People.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:13pm Uncle Michael:

Nick wrote it, yes?
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:14pm Dominick:

Mickey Jupp wrote Switchboard Susan
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:15pm Amanda:

I don't know 100% but I'd be really surprised if anyone else did -- it is very him.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:15pm Jeff Golick:

@Brian in UK: listened to that clip. If "aural indigestion" is a disease, then I don't what a cure!

Actually, he makes a good point.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:15pm Uncle Michael:

The Costello version of What's So Funny was the b-side to American Squirm. Elvis isn't credited but the picture on the back of the sleeve shows Nick holding Elvis' Fender Jaguar with the "Costello" fretboard inlay.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:15pm Amanda:

No kiddin'!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:16pm Jeff Golick:

@Brian: gotta love Radio 4. "Up next, Samuel Pepys turns 34!"
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:17pm efd:

The Jupp version of "Switchboard Susan" is pretty good - it's on the LP approriately titled 'Long Distance Romancer.'
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:18pm Uncle Michael:

Was there ever a more disappointing supergroup than Little Village?
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:19pm Uncle Michael:

I still love Peter Case's first solo LP.
  Wed. 8/7/13 1:21pm Dean:

"Was there ever a more disappointing supergroup than Little Village?"

Steely Dan?
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:21pm Amanda:

I saw him at Maxwell's in 2010, a very woefully underattended show. And sad to say that when I saw Paul Collins in Maine it was the same size audience.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

I'm not disappointed in Steely Dan. I'm not sure how the term "supergroup" applies, anyway.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:27pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Howdy all Amanders. Back up from the parking lot ( and 91.1 FM). Oh, the choices we must make.Well I'm here now and see what I've missed. Great show, goil!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:28pm Brian in UK:

Thanks Dominick, I had an LP by The Searchers in the late 70s when they were covering modern music but I (cover you ears Doug) sold it.
Hey Amanda. Copacetic.
  Wed. 8/7/13 1:28pm Dean:

I meant it as a too subtle joke, although Skunk Baxter had made a name for himself pre-SD, and then there's the roster of contributors to Aja. What prompted the joke? A couple nights ago SD's The Fez kept me up all night on an endless cerebral tape loop.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:30pm Amanda:

You guys have many choices at your disposal, I know. I'm flattered you've chosen this program! Really.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:30pm Jeff Golick:

Fagen's book comes out in a little bit: www.amazon.com...

I appreciate it's apparent brevity.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:31pm Jeff Golick:

That's not a dig re page count. I just generally appreciate shorter books!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:31pm Uncle Michael:

I'm never gonna do it without the fez on.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:32pm Brian in UK:

@ Jeff Golick Kevin Le Gendre wrote the programme notes when I saw Charles Lloyd a couple of monthe ago. He knows which way is up but in the jazz world that is not always obvious.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:33pm Uncle Michael:

Fagen: pre-ordered. Thanks, Jeff.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:34pm efd:

Not to be pedantic, but Hova originally compiled/released that premium on cassette in 1998! Then it was reissued on CD in 2002.
  Wed. 8/7/13 1:34pm Dean:

No! Don't restart the tape loop!

So Fagen admires Mancini? That explains a lot! I've always considered SD the beginning of the end of rock. As for Mancini, it need only be pointed out that "Baby Elephant Walk" can serve as a counterpoint to any melody whatsoever.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:35pm Uncle Michael:

I have it on cereal box flexi.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:36pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

hmm loops
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:37pm Uncle Michael:

Froot Loops.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:39pm KevinfromBayRidge:

If they're stupid then you know what that makes all of us!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:44pm Rich in Washington:

God!
I am completely turned around, calendar-wise!
I keep thinking it's Thursday for some reason. Just realized this was on now!
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:45pm Uncle Michael:

If you lived now, you'd be home by here.
Avatar Wed. 8/7/13 1:45pm Nate K:
