And why not have a little bit of Brazil!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:08am Matt from Springfield:

Likewise, home in the daytime!
First time I ever heard a transition out of JM in AM - wonderful to have the Martians come in right after that!

Hi, folks! Nothing like celebrating the Fourth of July with some music from Bahia, I always say!

Sorry I'm late. Just back from Wimbledon.

Boys, we may have a quiet morning together. Many will have celebrated last evening the birth of our great nation very greatly.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:21am Matt from Springfield:

So Meghan said...JC in a hazey walk of shame...on a Thursday morning!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:23am Joe McG:

@Matt: Ha! How are spending your 4th in Springfield today?
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:26am Matt from Springfield:

Quietly at home, then an outdoor ribs BBQ at the parents!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:27am Joe McG:

It's so hot and damp here that the cow could probably cook itself.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:29am Matt from Springfield:

Pretty humid here, despite not being hot the last couple of days (due to rains) it still feels steamy.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:34am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- up heah in NewHampshuh - @ 9:30 in the mornin' it's already upper 70sF - humidity 79% - dewpoint 72F
...yesterday I kept thinkin' I needed to open the windows - when they been open for weeks...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Brazilian stuff just doesn't quit !

...Amongst us AstrologyEnthusiasts - this is discussed much: Some do think it was the 2nd (signing of Declaration I guess) - & only announced on the 4th.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:39am Matt from Springfield:

Opening windows doesn't help if *that's* what's outside!

If you think about it, the Dec was probably finished (or "born") on the 2nd--first signed on the 4th. Though many of the Congress apparently didn't sign it for another month.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:42am Matt from Springfield:

Very familiar! So deja vu familiar that it sounds like I've heard both the Brazilian and Pipe Dream ones somewhere before.
  Thu. 7/4/13 9:42am Meghan.:

Awww, a Surface Noise shout out! Thanks Joe! Happy 4th to you!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:43am Brian in UK:

Quick hello Joe. Alternate take, 'The Last Day of June 1934' by Al Stewart. Came from an album with a song for every decade of the twentieth century. Past, Present & Future.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:44am Joe McG:

Happy 4th to you, Meghan! Great job, as always! Hey, Brian!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:45am Matt from Springfield:

PP&F, great album! Hey Brian!

Aha! "The Declaration was ultimately a formal explanation of why Congress had voted on July 2 to declare independence from Great Britain, more than a year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. The national birthday, the Independence Day is celebrated on July 4, although Adams wanted July 2."
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- nevermind when we AstrolHeads start asking for a Time of Day; what Moment exactly is a Nation 'born'??
- a sidenote is that those nutty Freemasonish FoundingDudes were possibly thinking of a Chart themselves (Ben & his Almanac ferinstance)
- altho' the conclusion of many of the AstrolEnthusiasts is that this is a BirthChart of a people trying to win a Revolt against MadKingGeorge - but we are good & stuck w/it now!...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:47am Jeezy:

That Michael F. was pretty damn great sounding, for a demo in particular.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:47am Jeezy:

Wish my "demos" sounded that good.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:49am Matt from Springfield:

So really, the action to declare independence WAS the 2nd, and this text explaining why was ratified on the 4th. And in fact most signed from July 19 to August 2, with one straggler (Matthew Thornton) not signing until Nov 4!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Voted on 2nd. Thx Matt.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 9:51am Matt from Springfield:

No prob, RRN63! And yes, whatever that moment is, we're "good & stuck w/it now!", for better and worse!

Wow--new Ruthann Friedman comp??! Must acquire!
And this "Homemade Records" one too? This is a great duo, was this really a homemade or non-signed group?

They performed on an episode of "The Young Ones" at the time.

Does anybody know who the female singer on the Tommy Roe record is?
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 10:39am Matt from Springfield:

And the multi-talented Tracey!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 10:41am Matt from Springfield:

Nice baroquey pop! Sounds like it could be a 60s cover, but I haven't found a composer for it yet.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 10:43am Joe McG:

@Matt: I think it's a new tune (especially with words like "provocation" in it), but like a lot of Tracey's material, it was going for a 60s pop sound, totally.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 10:43am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Joe!

Bettye LaVette--into the disco era! Evidently this is a longer Pt. 1/Pt. 2 single.

Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 10:46am Matt from Springfield:

The Wiki discography for Bettye LaVette also states the label and recording number of her singles; Joe will be interested to know she was with SSS International briefly in the early 70s! :)

@james: Ha! I can picture him smiling, too, like on the cover of "You're My Girl."

this song reminds me: one year ago today, Justin Timberlake was indoctrinated into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame.

Great Tindersticks track! I don't see Tindersticks been played on WFMU as much as it should.

Was gonna ask for a two-fer!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 11:36am Joe McG:

@Chris: Does he do a lot of Townes Van Zandt covers, this Timberlake man?
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 11:37am listener james from westwood:

iirc tony had a monday noon-3pm show back in the early 90s, when i started listening to the station. i used to take a lunch break at noon at the job i had @ the time. one day, tony covered for his preceding dj by starting his show @ 11. pavlov be praised, i heard the theme and got RAVENOUSLY hungry.

I second Fernando re Tindersticks.

@james: Ha! Maybe that's why I'm ravenously hungry right now.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 11:40am Joe McG:

Either that or the fact that I ate breakfast at FIVE O'CLOCK in the morning!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 11:40am Chris M.:

@Joe: he covered Waitin' Around To Die on his new covers album, Under The Covers. it also has a great version of Pancho And Lefty featuring William Bennett of Whitehouse. he's really getting experimental these days.

@Chris: Ha ha!

"Justin Timberlake is currently composing an original music score for a film by Chris Nolan with John Zorn.[32]" - just found on wikipedia. not very good sentence structure. they really need to raise their standards.

I'd check this if I thought you were at all serious.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 11:49am Matt from Springfield:

Dust of some Karma, that sounded great!
That backing track almost could work with Neil Young singing lyrics on Everybody Knows...that kind of feel.

hang on, i have a demo of the Zorn/Timberlake score. i'm uploading it to sendspace for you.
