Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 3:42am Julie:

jangly guitars played underwater
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 3:43am Julie:

Avatar Thu. 6/20/13 4:17am ausmanx:

hmm, subtitling an Italian film about a hardcore guitarist who inherits his dad's cherry processing company. weird. strawberries and oranges are a good complement...
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 4:18am Julie:

you say hardcore guitarist, I'm thinking someone who plays live music for porno
Avatar Thu. 6/20/13 4:20am ausmanx:

you know your Italian cinema! but no, he just plays thrash, but there is a very beautiful prostitute entangled in the plot. strangely good film, actually...
  Thu. 6/20/13 4:25am Paul -berlin:

  Thu. 6/20/13 4:49am Paul -berlin:

I loke hoe you hidged DD back into the music direction as his yoga talk got a bit esoteric. (Nothing against yoga.)
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 4:50am Julie:

Well, as he said it's all connected. I told him we needed to do another and talk about music, and he wants to
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 4:53am Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful, you can *even* talk about the music next time!
Now maybe RAY will feel compelled to do an interview with you! ;)
Avatar Thu. 6/20/13 4:57am ausmanx:

you'll be pleased to know there is a new (very worthwhile) Sydney band called Day Ravies... dayravies.bandcamp.com
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 4:59am Matt from Springfield:

I'll never make that recipe again...

Canada (La Vie Ontarieure)
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:01am Matt from Springfield:

@ausmanx: Ha, Day Ravies! And they actually sound like a good band too, shoegazey stuff might work out on this show.
Avatar Thu. 6/20/13 5:01am Mary Wing:

YES
Avatar Thu. 6/20/13 5:03am ausmanx:

but if the blokes have a sausage party, what do the sheilas have?
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:04am Julie:

@Matt I'm working on the Ray thing, I have some tenuous connections to him I haven't worked on yet @ausmanx a tupperware party!
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:05am Matt from Springfield:

Awesome, Julie.

And so is the WFMU Tupperware Party! But, do we have to bring our own Tupperware...?
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:15am Matt from Springfield:

Lemmin Kittehz!
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:16am Matt from Springfield:

And you shouldn't be afraid of being bled by leeches, it's the latest, safest medical technology. As is the hammer (for anesthetic).
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:30am Matt from Springfield:

A very Syd Barrett style.
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:31am Julie:

Ah yes I can see that
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:38am Matt from Springfield:

WOOOOO!!! The Church! Love the feel of "Shadow Cabinet"!
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:40am Matt from Springfield:

Remember Clay's riff on goth music with his improv-ed "I'll Be The One Who's Wearing Black"? Well whenever I try to riff or imitate 80s "goth" music, I always sing to this tune, even though this itself isn't goth.
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:41am Julie:

Of course I remember that:)
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:41am Meghan:

really enjoying today's show, btw....
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:41am Julie:

thanks Meghan!
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:42am Matt from Springfield:

"Winter morning you walk through the trees / But they cut them all down for the factories / Made this pretty cabinet and gave you the keys" kind of environmental message, and probably the least opaque Church lyric I know of!
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:44am Matt from Springfield:

And now InkSuc!! It's been a while. Meghan's right, you're KILLIN IT this morning, Julie! :D
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:45am Julie:

this whole album is really good, I love the jangle of the guitar on this
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:46am Matt from Springfield:

A new album too! They've got their own label, I see.

(I've recorded my own copy of "I'll Be The One Who's Wearing Black"--as well as Clay's "Camptown Parachute Pants"! :)
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:47am Meghan:

I don't think I ever really listened to Inkubus Sukkubus..... now I might have to pick it up. Funny, I am starting today's show a little gothy too.... It'll be a good transition!
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:50am Matt from Springfield:

Fantastic, Meghan!
(The joint 4AD show was a great transition as well--remember to do another show together like that!)
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:52am Julie:

Well..I'm ending with prog so :p
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:52am Meghan:

hahaha.... that show was so easy and fun! I loved it!
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:53am Julie:

Thanks for listening folks, see you next week!
Avatar    Thu. 6/20/13 5:56am Matt from Springfield:

And thank you Julie! Wonderful show!

Have a great Thursday everyone!
Avatar Tue. 6/25/13 7:37pm Droll:

So you thought you could play early Genesis without the Prog Police noticing? HA! It took me a while, but eventually I caught up to your airing of this excellent live recording. LLDoB is such a great record, but it peaks too early with the Broadway Melody of '74 on side 1.

I'll let you off with a warning this time, but some other listeners (and DJs!) may not be so forgiving next time.
Avatar    Thu. 6/27/13 9:04am Van in DC:

I'm way behind now. Trying to catch up here a bit...
Avatar    Thu. 6/27/13 2:02pm Van in DC:

David Sylvian! Thanks Julie!

And nice Bowie track, followed by Bauhaus with Ziggy - brilliant! :)
Avatar    Fri. 6/28/13 8:43am Van in DC:

Back for another listen to some of these...especially Marakesh Night Market by Loreena McKennitt - how gorgeous is that song?!
  Tue. 7/2/13 3:08pm Ed C:

I saw Lorelle Meets the Obsolete in Brooklyn last Thursday. Great show! Looking forward to the stream of them here.
