Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/3/13 12:04pm northguineahills:

Just was listening to Jeff M on the main stream, now it's time for Jeff G and Jeff J.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/3/13 12:04pm Uncle Michael:

Greetings, Glad-hand Gorlick!
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

socializing and meeting clients drains the hell out of me. i can sympathize if you're still recharging your batteries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/3/13 12:07pm Uncle Michael:

Shaking my ass, with staff.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:09pm Jeff Golick:

Mon. 6/3/13 12:09pm Dan in Seattle:

The narrating voice on this almost sounds like Jimmy "Dyn-O-Mite" Walker.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

ngh, scott and jim price will rename themselves jeff to keep the name mojo going for today.
wasn't this also a groove armada cut some time earlier that decade? hadn't heard this version before.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:10pm Jeff Golick:

I'm basically a sucker for any band with two drummers.

And Joe McPhee, natch.

Hey there, I see you, Dan in Seattle!
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Jeff G is el jefe!
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:11pm fleep:

<-- Already there on the Jeff thing.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:12pm Jeff Golick:

@LJFW: Your musical knowledge knows no bounds! NO BOUNDS! You are correct, this is a cover of the Groove Armanda "tune." The Thing with Cato Salsa Experience (two bands), and Joe McPhee (legend).

Straight outta Norway.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:14pm listener james from westwood:

thanks! i defer to the collective and host genius here on musical lineages, but i'll take 600 points in the "early 00s dance cuts" category and select again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/3/13 12:16pm Uncle Michael:

How about THREE drummers (ok, only two playing traps but timbales puts it close)? encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com...
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:16pm Alex Trebek:

Way to phrase your answer in the form of a question!
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 12:18pm holland oats:

what is twerking?
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:19pm Jeff Golick:

The gong is a nice touch there, @UM.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

@holland oats
I believe it is using your ass to send tweets. While a work.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:19pm listener james from westwood:

"twerking" = tweaking on meth whilst at work?
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:19pm Jeff Golick:

I'll take Miami Bass for $200, Alex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/3/13 12:19pm Uncle Michael:

A gong always is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/3/13 12:20pm northguineahills:

Jagga Jazzist w/ Motorpscycho also do a nice cover of Theme de Yoyo.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:21pm fleep:

Twerking is extreme booty shake.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:22pm Jeff Golick:

Google twerk + gif and we'll see you back in a few weeks...
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Jesus, EVERYBODY is doing covers of Theme De Yoyo these days.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:23pm Jeff Golick:

I believe that even includes Mr. Schulkind. Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/3/13 12:24pm northguineahills:

If these days includes 2002 (from my example)
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Any fool with a hairbrush for a mic and some Limburger cheese can do a cover of Theme De Yoyo.

By the way, Jeff this song is actually "Mra" not "MRA." That's a mistake I made for about 20 years of playlists before I learned that "Mra" was actually the nickname of South African musician Christopher Columbus Ngcukana.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:28pm Jeff Golick:

[stupid Discogs.com -- I changed it from Mra to comply!]
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:30pm Doug Schulkind:

The song title actually appears as "MRA" on a number of recordings. Go have some Limburger and shake it off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/3/13 12:31pm northguineahills:

Now I want some Limburger cheese.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 12:32pm duke:

no relation to Mra by Hugh Masekela I guess
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 12:33pm duke:

named after the same musician...I juts got back to looking at the comments
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:33pm Doug Schulkind:

No that's the same tune. Masekela is covering the tune by Dudu Pukwana.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:40pm listener james from westwood:

never actually had limburger; a rowdy stilton is the strongest cheese i've yet sampled.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 12:46pm duke:

This is a gorgeous album
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 12:48pm Jeff Golick:

No argument here, @duke.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 1:07pm Doug Schulkind:

One of my favorite tunes, ever. Weston recorded and distributed his own record in 1964 with the original version of African Cookbook. Unsurprisingly, record sales were abysmal and the LP languished until Atlantic reissued it under the name "African Cookbook," in 1972.

To the eternal joy and grateful delight of me.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 1:34pm Jeff Golick:

Here's that Randy Weston album: ajbenjamin2beta.blogspot.com...
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 1:47pm Doug Schulkind:

For a while, that Nothing Is blog took over in my heart of hearts for the brilliant Church Number 9 blog. Now that aortic chamber is occupied by Inconstant Sol. (The link for that Weston LP is from 2008 and still works!)
Mon. 6/3/13 2:01pm all that jazz:

Check out Unconscious Collective/Dallas Tx.Great set.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 2:06pm Doug Schulkind:

The headline for the lead news item on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's website right now:

"40-foot rubber duck coming to Pittsburgh"
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 2:08pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: is it this one? i2.cdn.turner.com...
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 2:10pm Jeff Golick:

This "Nonaah" is decidedly less confrontational than the original.
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 2:11pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 2:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Anything we can do to help?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/3/13 2:30pm Uncle Michael:

Play me some wild shit! Oh, wait...yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/3/13 2:31pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/3/13 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

You're always welcome at my place. Just give me notice and I'll whip up a batch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 6/3/13 2:59pm Dead Mime Walking:

Love this song, Jeff! I read about these guys on the DO blog, played them on my college radio show, then realized they lived in the same city as me, and had them do an in-studio on my show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 6/3/13 2:59pm Uncle Michael:

Great show...what I didn't miss./ Sure the part I missed was terrific too.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 3:00pm duke:

Thanks Jeff!
Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 3:03pm Jeff Golick:
