Tunisian vocalist Ghalia Benali Ghalia Benali grew up in an artistic family in the south of Tunisia before moving to Brussels as an adult. Known for her inventive music, Ghalia Benali is one of the most remarkable, multi-faceted talents working in Tunisian music. Her expressive voice and melodic compositions reflect a variety of influences stretching from Arabic folk and jazz traditions to contemporary Indian classical music. She also dances - she played a dancer in a Tony Gatlif film, and also acted in a Tunisian film; and she has training in the sciences and graphic design and continues to create visual art.

Ghalia performs on Wednesday night, May 15th as part of the wonderful multi-disciplinary month-long World Nomads Tunisia at the French Institute Alliance Fran├žaise (FIAF)'s Florence Gould Hall .

The biennial World Nomads Festival, produced by FIAF, celebrates the phenomenon of 21st-century transculturalism through the arts and scholarly discussion, offering a platform for the exchange of ideas and artistic expression among traditional and contemporary cultures. This May, the fifth edition of the Festival arrives at a particularly suitable time to celebrate the many facets of Tunisia (where the "Arab Spring" actually first took hold in early 2011). World Nomads Tunisia concerts, DJs, dance, theatre, visual arts, discussions and more. Info at http://www.fiaf.org/worldnomads/.

This is a pretty philosophical interview, I'm enjoying it a lot.

Ms. Benali is very interesting & charming! I share her interests in Mysticism & even 'Occult' Metaphysics.
- & all this is reflected in the Spirit of the Music: it is a Fusion of a natural kind - not a heavy-handed attempt to blend different sources, but one that flows...
