"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

I saw Otomo Yoshihide yesterday. Unusual set, he played guitar most of the time. Pretty good, though I had an ear infection that spoiled some of it

Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:35am fred:

Now I have a deep craving to see Keiji Haino again. I haven't this year, I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
Time to put that JA in the AM shot glass to work, on a rare Wednesday off

Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:42am John Allen:

my pleaseure on the minutemen. i found this in a box of latin records a friend had in storage for years
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:43am Cheri Pi:

WHAAAAAAAAAAAA????? OMG. great find.
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:43am fred:

CP, I'm jealous. Not so much of your seeing them as of your having such great taste at such an early age
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:46am Cheri Pi:

I owe my great musical taste to having moved to Cincinnati in 1984 from Redmond, WA. we had the best radio stations ever there.
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:46am Looms:

There is goes again :)
  Wed. 5/8/13 8:46am Cecile:

I love the ads. Lo-budget.
  Wed. 5/8/13 8:46am common:

goddamn this is great!!!
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:46am northguineahills:

Ha, by the time I was in High School, the Smashing Pumpkins were as underground as Spin could get (in the early-mid 90s)
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:47am Cheri Pi:

these Spin shows were the best!!
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:48am Jim Devoid:

Wow, must have been sleepwalking/listing when I thought I heard this on NPR this morning...
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:49am Jim Devoid:

...ahem..."listening"....
  Wed. 5/8/13 8:50am Cecile:

Yeah, and all-ages shows are wonderful for developing taste.
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:54am fred:

To my enduring shame, back in 1985 I think I was into Pink Floyd, The Police, Michael Jackson, U2, and Iron Maiden. Sigh.
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:55am Cheri Pi:

Fred-I was into all of them too!!! no shame, free-form tastes! add Dio, the Doors and culture club to my list.
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:55am Andrew Waterloo:

@fred. I was into the wrong things too
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:55am Rich in Washington:

I must get this Spin(?) magazine.
It sounds very underground.
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:55am Rich in Washington:

Maybe they have it at Tower.
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:56am Cheri Pi:

Damnit Jim! today is not EVH's birthday :(
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:58am beavoux:

There are no "wrong things". Whatever sounds like music to you.
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:58am Jeezy:

What album is this Hiss track from?
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:58am fred:

I never liked the Doors. But I also liked Bananarama at the time, and I'm still not ashamed of that
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 8:59am John Allen:

new one s/t
Avatar Wed. 5/8/13 9:00am Jeezy:

Cool thanks John
  Fri. 5/10/13 9:31am mattk:

I've had the mintuemen in my head since you played that great recording. Going to listen to the archive now. A friend put one of their songs on a mix tape for me in the late-80's, but I haven't heard their other songs.
