Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 12:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Someone email me a nose flute. I feel unfulfilled suddenly.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 12:44pm Tony Coulter:

Snot unusual for the nose flute–less to feel unfulfilled.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 12:50pm Tony Coulter:

That's the title of an unreleased Tom Jones belter, by the way.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 12:51pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

ah, the art of a fine Welsh nose...
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:00pm Brian in UK:

Hello Tony.
Is it birthday time Uncle Michael?
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:01pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Brian!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:02pm Brian in UK:

A fine Welsh Dresser.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:14pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, all, I haven't done any specials in a while, and am thinking it's time. Anyone have any suggestions/requests? Two ideas I have: an all-Spanish music show (i.e., music from Spain) or a U.S. AOR/pomp rock show.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:18pm Uncle Michael:

Eh, wot Brian?
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:20pm Uncle Michael:

Tony, was Lord I'm Learning the one that was the open homage to Big Star's "Try Again?"
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:21pm Tony Coulter:

Sounds about right!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:21pm listener james from westwood:

both of those specials sound solid!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:21pm Stanley:

Just got off my ass to say I'm not at all sure about the ol' flute. Reminds me of the worst excesses of hippiedom. Generally I like hippie but the flute?
I suppose having a name like Jasper doesn't help, either. Just wanted to put this on the record.
Hi Tony.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:21pm Uncle Michael:

I need to listen to the Ark again on the archive.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

Love your avatar, Stanley. It brings back memories...of yesterday.
  Tue. 4/30/13 1:23pm gerardo:

well, I certainly would love to hear an espana show made by tony coulter ! would be curious what unknow stuff to me you would come up with !
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:24pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, James! And greetings Stanley! I'm actually not much of a flute man myself, except when it's played in a breathy way -- I hate shrill, twitchy flute ... maybe for biological reasons (sound like someone hectoring you).
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:28pm SID AVARICIOUS:

All right Tony,
see your playing some Worm, womb or something Italian?
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:28pm Stanley:

Uncle M - its a favourite cartoon character, Squiddly Diddly. Unfortunately all the Hanna Barbera film archive was so deteriorated no restorations were possible. But that giant anthropomorphic squid stays in my memories.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:29pm Tony Coulter:

@ Gerardo: I will for sure do a Spanish special at some point, if not soon. When I do, I'll ask you for some tips.
  Tue. 4/30/13 1:29pm conrad:

hey Tony! My request for a theme show? New Wave obscurities. I love all the '70s/'80s post-punk/mimimal synth/Residential wackiness you play.

yours in flute-hating
-conrad
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:31pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Sid and Conrad! New Wavery is a great idea. Haven't done a special like that in a long time.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:32pm SID AVARICIOUS:

Yeh Tony - I'm really warming to cold wave!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:33pm Uncle Michael:

Stanley, I posted a link to that very thing in the D:O comments yesterday. Synchronacity.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:34pm Tony Coulter:

@ Sid: ... but cooling to Warm Wave? Me too....
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:35pm Uncle Michael:

I'm chilling some cold duck.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:38pm SID AVARICIOUS:

What's your favorite band on Vertigo?
Mine -
Black Sabbath's 1st,
COLOSSEUM - VALENTYNE SUITE,
AFFINITY - ''same""
MAY BLITZ - ''same''
DR. STRANGELY STRANGE - HEAVY PETTING
PATTO - ''same''
BEGGAR'S OPERA - ACT ONE
GENTLE GIANT - ''same''
CRESSIDA - ASYLUM
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:40pm Stanley:

Uncle M - brilliant. Octopi are good on drums, too.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:40pm Tony Coulter:

That's a tough one for me to answer -- there's too much to choose from.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

it's a huge list (vertigo label) but my knee-jerk answer would be the Ramases one (space hymns)
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:43pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

or, wait, Sensational Alex Harvey Band was on Vertigo as well, right? Damn... Tie for first place between Ramases & "Framed" by SAHB.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:44pm SID AVARICIOUS:

Vertigo probably bankrolled the whole label on the back of Black Sabbath?
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:45pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

+ yay whee for the LA 1919 Spantaneo track. Great one.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:45pm Uncle Michael:

SAHB v. anything... SAHB ftw.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:46pm SID AVARICIOUS:

its the weird jazzy shit though thats are really expensive rarities on the label like Ben and Dr Z.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:48pm Stanley:

Love weird and jazzy shit.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:48pm Tony Coulter:

The Ben record is terrible, though, IMO -- not weird, just boring fusion.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:50pm SID AVARICIOUS:

Does anyone know anything about the Rudolph Grey - 1,000 Luminous Flowers track on D:O last night?
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:51pm SID AVARICIOUS:

at least the Dr Z album - 3 parts to my soul has an interesting cover?
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:53pm Tony Coulter:

@ Sid: Don't know anything about that track -- but I do know that Rudolph G. wrote a great book on Ed Wood.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:54pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm l-o-v-i-n-g this cut.
  Tue. 4/30/13 1:54pm pomp rocker:

NO one expects the SPANISH INQUISITION!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:55pm SID AVARICIOUS:

Tony,
saw the film with Johnny Depp, only he looked a whole lot better in a dress than Ed Wood did in the actual film - Glen or Glenda!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:56pm SID AVARICIOUS:

Tony,
can't do any better fo new wave than this Pseudo code track - storming - makes the Fall sound like the Monkeys!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 1:58pm Tony Coulter:

Glad you likee, Doug and Sid! And greetings Pomp Rockus!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:09pm Uncle Michael:

Never mix French Muppets and methamphetamine... Not. Ever.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Clicking that favorite-star as if my life depends on it...
  Tue. 4/30/13 2:12pm gerardo:

crazy Finns..great stuff !
  Tue. 4/30/13 2:21pm Art DAMAGE:

WHO is GI-NAPAJO? Exquisite.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:23pm northguineahills:

Very Frippian.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:24pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Art Damage! Gi-Napajo are a great Italian band that self-released a couple of things in the '90s, then disappeared, as far as I know.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:28pm Tony Coulter:

Oh, and hello there NGH!!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:30pm northguineahills:

Heya Tony, been here since Shide & Acorn.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:39pm northguineahills:

Someone just drove down my block blaring Toto. Didn't get a look at the car.
  Tue. 4/30/13 2:42pm conrad:

northguineahills: last night a passing car was crankin'
up the Kansas. Pretty annoying to have "Carry On My Wayward Son" stuck in my head til I could get to a radio and scour my head.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:43pm Tony Coulter:

If I do end up doing an AOR/pomp rock special, I may just play both Toto and Kansas -- so watch out.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:45pm listener james from westwood:

there was an annoying call-in troll who would sing that kansas song on the fmu talk shows some years back. i think chris t eventually got him on the line during the internet-only rnc remix week and tore him a new asshole.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:45pm Tony Coulter:

Next week on "Tape Hiss," though, I'll be playing Gargoyle Mechanique cassettes, plus some other stuff I haven't figured out yet.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:45pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

This is fan bloody tastic. (Tiensuu)
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:48pm Doug Schulkind:

This sounds like a not-so-distant cousin of Balinese monkeychanting.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:48pm Uncle Michael:

Tony...play that stuff and we can all not figure it out together.
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:50pm Tony Coulter:

Ha!
Avatar Tue. 4/30/13 2:55pm Doug Schulkind:
