Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 10:48am Dervish:

But does your program support an Emanuel Ax policy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 11:32am Uncle Michael:

I hope it supports a chillax policy. I'm doing that for the next 89 minutes till I have to check out of this Chicago hotel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 11:41am Brian in UK:

@UM What the L are you doing there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 11:43am Uncle Michael:

One day layover here on my way home from Spain. I grew up here so any time here is welcome. I didn't want to have to drive two hours after a 24 hour travel day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 11:43am Carmichael:

You can ax me any ting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 11:44am Uncle Michael:

CSI will detect any ax body spray.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 11:47am Jeff Golick:

Welcome dervish, UM, Brian, Carmichael! Back in a bit...
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 11:54am listener james from westwood:

good monday and happy live day, jeff and jeff! (not to be confused with life day, the wookiee-based ceremony.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 11:56am Uncle Michael:

Is this the live debut?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 11:57am Doug Schulkind:

I am here and ready to 'elp with anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 11:58am Uncle Michael:

Push him out of the nest Doug. Only way he's gonna fly. (I did not just say that)
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 11:59am Doug Schulkind:

More volume.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:01pm Shaun:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 12:01pm Carmichael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:01pm Uncle Michael:

sounds great here...
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 12:07pm jk:

morning all! missed the first of the show, can you start over please?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 12:08pm Jesse K:

hows the setup treating you, Jeff?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:09pm Jeff Golick:

Set up is solid. I am not.

I am liquid.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:10pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, all! Working on VOLUME. And, y'know, pumping it up and such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:10pm Uncle Michael:

more gelatin
Avatar    Mon. 4/29/13 12:10pm holland oats:

hello do & drumma - i was liquid last night, now i'm mostly gas
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Jeff is still weeping over the NY Jets cutting Tim Tebow. Let's help him through this difficult time, people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:12pm Uncle Michael:

The Jets cut Tebow? That's like cutting Jesus. That's *exactly* like cutting Jesus. That's also rather amusing.
Avatar    Mon. 4/29/13 12:12pm holland oats:

...without actually tebowing, since that's been trademarked
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 12:13pm Jesse K:

well, your knicks are still sitting pretty. Just stay away from the gaseous states.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:13pm listener james from westwood:

sounding solid on this side. mike might have been muted, but music is clear and fiiiiiine.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:13pm Jeff Golick:

Warm greetings to duke, Doug, jessie, and the always atmospheric holland oats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:13pm Uncle Michael:

When it comes to sports rancor, I am relentless and utterly without compassion.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:14pm Doug Schulkind:

The music volume is still too low. Have you adjusted it up at all?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:14pm Uncle Michael:

Trademark violation: upload.wikimedia.org...
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:15pm Jeff Golick:

Just cranked it a few notches, Doug.
Can you hear me now?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:16pm Doug Schulkind:

No change in the levels. Crank some more.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:17pm Jeff Golick:

...I feel like I'm conducting some kind of Milgram experiment.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

Is it possible that the volume setting on your computer is way low? So much so that adjusting the levels down the line are superfluous? If the computer volume setting is really low, turn back down the other levels you adjust up FIRST before turning up your computer's volume setting.

If you feel an electric shock, you're on the right path.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

That last part was a Milgram reference. And a joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:20pm Brian in UK:

Base camp is normally quieter than the Stream. I am playing a higher volume than normal for the Stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:21pm Brian in UK:

@Doug all good music should have the potential to shock you.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:21pm Jeff Golick:

talk about stress testing...
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:22pm Uncle Michael:

I think GTDR is all a Stanford Prison Experiment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:22pm Brian in UK:

@Jeff are you still fully clothed?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:23pm Doug Schulkind:

Fill me in on what's going on. The volume is still down too much. Are you cranking on your end with no difference on the stream? Does SAM need adjusting maybe?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:23pm Jeff Golick:

Not only fully clothed, but I took a shower and everything...
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:25pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: cranking w no seeming effect via the mixer.
SAM is full tilt all the way up.
Computer is at 50%, though I don't think it's been changed since our test...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 12:25pm northguineahills:

Shower, not a bad idea.....
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:26pm Doug Schulkind:

How about the Winamp windows. Is there a volume setting on them?
Also, have you tried the mic again. Were you getting vu meter readings with the mic?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:26pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: does seem as though the levels in SAM itself are looking low (ie, well down in the green...) Not entirely sure how to get those up...
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:28pm Doug Schulkind:

I would boost your computer's volume output. Turn down the level on the mixer first, though. I usually have my computer's volume all the way up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 12:29pm Jesse K:

Jeff, You actually have four volumes for the music. Winamp has a volume, line 3+4 in your mixer should have a volume control, there's a master volume for the mixer and SAM has a volume. If you have low input readings in the SAM, try upping any of the preceding knobs.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:30pm Mike on South Street:

No technical difficulties here. Great stuff so far, guys. Love the Solberg and this Ben Monder.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:31pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug seems that might've done it (puter)
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:32pm Shaun:

Yeah, bollocks to the levels, this guitar set's been great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 12:33pm Jesse K:

right, sorry, 5 volume knobs to adjust, counting the computer's output
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Still could be higher, but it definitely got louder.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:35pm Doug Schulkind:

No mic audio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 12:35pm Carmichael:

I hope you're not speaking now, because I can't hear you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 4/29/13 12:36pm Uncle Michael:

Best of luck to you Jeff. I gotta leave the comments now. Hasty amoebas.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:36pm Doug Schulkind:

I think you should kill the music and talk into the mic to see if you are getting meter readings independently on the mic.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:40pm Jeff Golick:

Hrm. But the music's the best part.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Jeff, have you gotten any levels on the mic?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:42pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: ah, haven't actually looked at that -- will next break!
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:45pm Jeff Golick:

I'm just gonna keep drinking coffee until the top of my head comes off.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Don't use any music bed when you next come on mic so you can see if you're getting levels. Until then, check all the cable connections for the mic and check the mixer's mic level (as if you haven't already!)
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 12:46pm Jeff Golick:

This BBC album was recorded at The Stone during a live perf. Seems like it woulda been a good one to be at.
Avatar    Mon. 4/29/13 12:48pm duke:

Jeff, just do what I do when the computer gives me troubles, swear real loud.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:07pm Jeff Golick:

Oh, and Doug: you wanted me to do this EVERY week...?
  Mon. 4/29/13 1:07pm Tex:

If you got questions, AX me nice.... DO goes evilive. Sweet
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:11pm Jeff Golick:

Ok no mic levels so we're gonna run into the next set -- all Mary Halvorson -- while we work out the details...
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:12pm Doug Schulkind:

You should stop playing music and work on the mic problem till we get it resolved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 1:12pm Jesse K:

dumb question: is the mic turned on?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:13pm Doug Schulkind:

Are you getting any levels when you talk into the mic?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:13pm Jeff Golick:

No levels.

@Jesse K: dumb question back atcha: there's an on switch?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 1:14pm Jesse K:

some mics have an off/on switch. maybe yours doesn't It should be obviously on the handle or somewhere if so
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:15pm Doug Schulkind:

Jeff, the SM 58 does NOT have an on/off switch. Have you check all the cable connections? Have you tried pressing (or unpressing) the Phantom Power button on the mixer?
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:19pm uuee:

Hello I rene, and all'
Let us not forget 2 other musical legends, who had passed this past week--Bob Brozman, from R. Crumb's Cheap Suit Serenaders, and Cordell "Boogie" Mosson, bassist for Parliamnet -Funkadelic.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:20pm Mike on South Street:

Likin' this Tom Rainey too
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:24pm Mike on South Street:

Is Brubeck rolling over in his grave, or is that just him doing the Twist?
Avatar    Mon. 4/29/13 1:30pm duke:

This guitar set is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 1:32pm Carmichael:

Jayzis! That just got LOUD!
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:32pm Shaun:

Too loud, man. Too loud.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:33pm listener james from westwood:

just heard your voice for a sec there!
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:35pm Mike on South Street:

Augh! I hear voices! Voices coming from my radio!
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:36pm Doug Schulkind:

You mic level is good now!
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:40pm Doug Schulkind:

Mic levels were uneven during that break. Mostly good, but with some moments of overmodulation. Sounded like you were getting too close to the mic in some spots. I would turn the mic level down a bit and be sure to keep a fixed distance from the mic. Also, remember to talk across the front, rather than directly into it.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:41pm Jeff Golick:

Too loud, too soft. You guys are hard to please.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:46pm fleep:

Phase III clinical test patients usually receive some compensation.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:51pm Jeff Golick:

I think we're well past phase III, fleep.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:51pm Doug Schulkind:

Stick your tongue in your computer's USB portal and the compensation will be direct-deposited.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 1:55pm Carmichael:

Seems like things have evened out OK. On the show I mean, not in my life.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:57pm Doug Schulkind:

Regarding your life: Try pulling out all the cables and plugging them back in.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:58pm Jeff Golick:

That does work wonders.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 1:59pm Jeff Golick:

ATTN: I'm going to try and talk again after this number. If you don't hear from me for more than five minutes, call Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 4/29/13 1:59pm Carmichael:

I've pulled out all of my hair, Cables are OK, but there are not nearly enough volume controls.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 2:02pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 2:08pm Amanda:

Hi Jeff! Congratulations on crossing over to the LIVE side!!! I know it will bring great things for D:O in the future.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 2:10pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Amanda! It's been a rough crossing so far, but I appreciate the well wishes...

You cannot contact yourself. It could have disastrous consequences
Avatar    Mon. 4/29/13 3:01pm duke:

@rich push a bit of that sandwich into the usb port and we'll all take a look and see if it's safe
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:01pm Doug Schulkind:

I gotta head out to a middle-school soccer game in a few minutes. Could you switch back to the stream by 3:08.
Avatar    Mon. 4/29/13 3:02pm duke:

contacting yourself would put the internet into a loop
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:03pm Shaun:

@Jeff Ha. Really enjoyed the show sans squawk, anyway.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:03pm Rich in Washington:

@duke: it's too turgid to work in USB 2.0. You might have to use 3.0.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:04pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah! Live radio! Sounded amazing! Wish I had caught it all.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:04pm Shaun:

It's the GO BACK that really scared me.

You can never go back.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:08pm Doug Schulkind:

I would like you to switch back to the stream now, before I have to leave. I want to be sure this happens successfully.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:08pm Jeff Golick:

...the internet might be gaining on you
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:10pm Jeff Golick:

oh ok, Doug...
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:10pm Rich in Washington:

will we the listeners feel a sudden bump when you switch from live to the stream?
Should we secure our tray tables and extinguish smoking materials.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:10pm listener james from westwood:

thanks, jeff and jeff!
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:11pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:11pm fleep:

Mouth guard in. Ready. Thanks, Jeffs!
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:12pm Doug Schulkind:

All cool. Sorry for the abrupt switch. Guess you didn't see my earlier comment, Jeff. Also, the archive gets cut off at 3:08, so it's generally good to finish by then — or at least do a false finish, then go back to programming so the archive sounds complete.

Congrats Jeff! Gotta run.
Avatar Mon. 4/29/13 3:13pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, fleep, LJfW, duke, Rich and all who came along for the ride!
