Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:08pm Caryn:

Hi all!
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:08pm Night Al:

Rats never bothered me. Now a palmetto bug, those I HATE!
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:08pm Matt from Springfield:

I've had grilled rat in Thailand--if there was a famine, it would be more than sufficient and quite welcome. But, the meat's very tough and dry; I wouldn't prefer to eat rat otherwise.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:09pm pierre:

Clay and Pigeonnaires ! Bonsoir !
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:09pm Matt from Springfield:

Palmetto bugs, bane of the American Southeast!
Hey Frances and Caryn!
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:09pm Caryn:

My only issue with rats is that they are incontinent and thus tend to leak urine all the time. Apart from that, fine animals.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Bonsoir pierre! A rare live check-in to the Dusty Show for you! :)
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:11pm Night Al:

a palmetto bug actually chased me through my apartment once. I found my courage and went on the offensive and squashed that little bugger.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:11pm glenn:

i love it when "the kids" say totes. hey clay - get off my damn lawn.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:12pm david_:

The Rat mafia buys protection from politicians in NYC and other large cities.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Hmmm, how many times does one go up the stairs per year, on average? 65,000 times between mishaps, my last mishap was about 8 years ago, hope I'm not "due" anytime soon...
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:14pm glenn:

architrave.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:15pm Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:16pm pierre:

pretty rare live Clay indeed Matt, that's because i'm doing some late tyding :)
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:19pm Matt from Springfield:

Glad you're listening while cleaning! Make your place "spic and span"!
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:19pm glenn:

hmmm. kinda the same thing, although i've never heard it called archivault.
en.wikipedia.org...
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:20pm Night Al:

Now that I think about it, I did have one of our 'Florida' fruit rats charge me while I shone a flashlight on it at the bottom of one of my walls while in the attic once. It made me retreat..took me off guard being charged like that. So I take it back... fruit rats are freaky looking and BIG! Scurrying aroung in your walls is un-nerving.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:20pm glenn:

sorry. archivolt.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:21pm Matt from Springfield:

"See also

Well I've got quite a bit to learn about architectural arches!
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:22pm Charlie Brown:

Rats!
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:22pm glenn:

measure twice, cut once. payday's friday. all you need to know.
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:22pm Night Al:

The way to kill a fruit rat is set out poison and take away all water sources in the structure. They go out to get water and then die. If not, they really stink after dying in your walls.
Thu. 4/11/13 6:26pm jay inthe woods:

Holy crap, that voice. I can't not listen to this.
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:26pm Fredericks:

To Kill a Fruit Rat I read that book. I think.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:27pm Oscar:

I'm not sure why, but Clay's stories with creepy protagonists are sublime.
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:28pm Night Al:

I have to say, I worked for Smokey Robinson yesterday and stuck around for the show. At 73 he still has it. The woman were screaming. The Tracks OF My Tears and Cruising were my favorites. Really enjoyed Going On A Go-Go also. Great band also.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@Oscar: Most if not all of Clay's stories have a first person creepy protagonist narrating. Or else a third person narrator describing a creepy protagonist. His radio plays are like a modern Twilight Zone!
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:32pm dale:

been listening whilst i folded laundry. darks, in case you wondered. still can't figure out how to fold my wife's underpants
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:34pm Caryn:

@dale: there are 2 main techniques: 1) just fold them once in the middle, creating a bow-like shape, or 2) fold the crotch up, then both sides into the middle, creating a little square.
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:34pm Ralphine:

Clay, maybe you could try a prog throwdown against Dave Mandl next.
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:36pm dale:

thanks caryn. that sounds like they would make good pocket squares like that
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:37pm dale:

my mother always said 'they have me on rat poison - they're tryin' to kill me.'
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:39pm Greg from Bloomfield:

Just realized that Clay's stories are filling a big Joe Frank-sized hole in my life...
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:43pm david_:

You are untreated!
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:43pm Night Al:

Have you ever thought about squirrels. If they didn't have bushy tails they'd be very rat-like. Yet they get hand fed by the old ones and treated much better than the filthy, disgusting rats...hmmmm.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:44pm Matt from Springfield:

"Fecal-Aural Transmission" -- Good Name For A Band.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:45pm Matt from Springfield:

@Night Al: They are rodents, and basically tree rats. I liked a car commercial that (for some reason) pointed out that their cute fuzzy tail makes all the difference.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:46pm david_:

Saw my first squirrel of the spring the other day...
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:46pm Night Al:

@ Ratt from Springfield: I had some squirrels in my crawl space once. Just as annoying as rats in my opinion.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:46pm Caryn:

@Night Al: but apparently slightly tastier meat than rats. Less dry. And it has been discussed that one of the issues people have with rats is the hairless tail. Mice are considered cuter with their hairy tails, as are squirrels with their bushy tails.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:48pm glenn:

squirrels - rats with good agents.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:48pm david_:

squirrels in the wall can be noisier than rats...
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:50pm Night Al:

cold digital read seemed to work with the creepy music in the back.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:52pm Ratt from Springfield:

@david: Probably bigger as well.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:53pm Greg from Bloomfield:

I often think of ladybugs that way—they're beetles that lucked out.
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 6:53pm Caryn:

I'm reminded of Ken's post-Sandy battle with the squirrels invading WFMU.
  Thu. 4/11/13 6:58pm dale:

clay - how much research goes into these stories - is all this detail just inside you?
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 6:59pm sFrances from VA:

brilliant
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 7:00pm Matt from Springfield:

Glad you found this story, Clay!
Have a good night, everyone!

Always Remember...rodents!
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 7:00pm Greg from Bloomfield:

That was some Next Level shit right there, Clay.
  Thu. 4/11/13 7:00pm Visitin':

I loved that
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 7:00pm Caryn:

Wonderfully atmospheric story, Clay. In both ways.
Avatar Thu. 4/11/13 7:01pm david_:

Love the possibility of redemption in these stories...
Avatar    Thu. 4/11/13 7:02pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: That's right, stor(ies) plural: redemption is a frequent, and wonderful element of many Pidge stories.
  Thu. 4/11/13 7:02pm oh no:

here we go.
