Neil Diamond  Velvet Gloves and Spit   Options The Pot Smoker's Song  Uni  1968  LP  From Wiki Answers: In 1968, Neil Diamond formed a celebrity anti-drug organization called PAD (Performers Against Drugs) in an effort to show that the pop scene was not entirely in favor of using drugs. To drive the point home, Neil wrote and recorded "The Pot Smokers Song" which included monologues of real recovering drug addicts extolling the evils of drug use. PAD never really took off and eventually fell by the wayside. Ironically, despite Neil's then anti-drug stance, he was issued a summons in 1976 for possession of less than an ounce of maijuana and was sentenced to a six-month drug rehab program which he completed in 1977.
